A Grade Well, after a wet week we should get our games in. A few big games already, lets see how we go Croydon v Watsonia - As already mentioned, although early in the season this is a big game. Lots have said Watsonia will struggle, while Croydon seem to be lacking some depth. I pick Croydon due to their park. They seem to be able to stick it out here and the threat of this may cause a few gaps to open elsewhere on the park. Watsonia are missing a few and it looks to me as this may hurt them more, although they still have a few guys who can throw. GMBC v Research - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Still a tough ask to go to Monty and beat them when they have a legit side in. Two guys who can throw, guys who are a threat up and down the order, so how do you beat them.... Wheel out Josh Davies (well he is named in the 1 spot ) If Research are to be contenders again this year, this is a pivotal game (yes in round 2) make a statement here and knock them off in their own park. Will need big games from the Dicker boys, Davies, Ross and Lock to come close. I pick Monty in a close one. Melb Uni v Greensborough - After losing their traditional pre season first round game against Monty, Greens will come out firing. Again they have a few guys who can hold down any side in the league if on, so I expect them to hold Melb Uni to zero. Melb Uni seem to be lacking, I believe they have lost a couple of players as well which does not help a team that has not scored many runs over the past few seasons. NB v Heathmont - Andy Mann was outstanding last season and was rewarded with selection for the Waverley... I mean Melbourne Aces (that's a joke before I get in trouble). With him throwing nasty sliders with the sun behind his shoulder, I can't see Heathmont scoring more than 3 - 4 runs even with their line up. So who do Heathmont throw? Does Gourlay get on the hill? A few guys can swing the bat well, but they leaked runs last week, maybe the young NB side can pinch the win off them again. Not often you would see Heathmont 0 - 2 after 2 rounds. Ringwood v Knox - With the Allstars back in A Grade and picking up a couple of players, they probably expect to make the playoffs. If this was at their park I would pick them hands down, but Ringwood played out of their skins last week. If they can approach this game in the same way, they may knock Knox out early. Big game for both these teams as Knox played The B Grade side last season and would like to make an early statement. Can Barrett deliver again?? B Grade We saw the entry of St Kilda and Essendon with both being shut down by two of the more fancied clubs. Early in the season, but 3 big games already. Essendon v Bundoora - The last couple of seasons have been tough for Bundoora, but a few changes to the club help. I am led to believe that there is a 'very' handy inclusion for Essendon this week, if he is throwing, look out for Essendon's first win. If not, Bundoora will pick up their first win of the season. Forest Hill v Westgarth - Could be sloppy conditions this week at the swamp with the amount of rain we have had, however a game will be played. FH should win this game, I see the 'Garth' a little weaker without Lando. FH tried to stay up in A Grade and who would blame them, with the young side they have, keeping them together would be very handy towards the end of the season. La Trobe v Ringwood - La Trobe still look to be missing players (Pinkster, Huryn and Wilson), they leave big holes. Alex name to pitch is a good move though, can he go the distance or will they have to wheel out the knuckleballer in Freeth? Ringwood got it down last week against an inexperienced Essendon. A couple of players in to this side this week, may be a good shot for them. Rebels v Monash Uni - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Why MOTR? Both these teams would be wanting to push for finals this season. If Rebels win, they make their early charge and leave Monash behind. For Monash to be a threat, they must win this game otherwise they will be mid pack again. I said last week, Rebels picked up some handy players, so my pick is for them to go close to finals this season. St Kilda v Waverley - I still know little about St Kilda, so will go off last weeks performance. St Kilda got beaten by a depleted Westgarth, but they only scored 1 run. Giving up runs is not a problem if you score more ( ) but they will not be given many opportunities this week either. Waverley should run out comfortable winners. Make sure you all drink your 1.5L of water 3 hours before bed time tonight, a lot of big games this week. Good Luck

In the GBA, Lara handed out an 8-0 drubbing to Ballarat (with Jason Lester tossing a one-hitter). Kerr-Chapman and Knuth were similarly dominant as Deakin blanked Bacchus Marsh 9-0, while Guild got home 8-7 after Saints finished strongly. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Rebels 2nds and 3rds got done by Monash and Footscray respectively. 1sts flew the flag with a 7-1 win over Monash.
In the early game it was 0-0 then 1-1 for much of the game, I think we got into the 5th with two hits for each side. Monash then pushed a few across, then a few more to take an 8-1 lead going into the last. Rebels finally got into it and managed to push over 3 with a runner on third to threaten but a pitching change saw two Ks to close the door; game over 8-4.
I left the late game at bottom of two with it at 1-1. Few hard hit balls in the first saw Monash threaten but no score due to some clutch pitching. Bottom of the first 2 up 2 down, but then two hits and three walks saw a run pushed across.
Monash answered with someone reaching via an error, SB, and some good team batting to score a run. Rebels couldn't answer in the bottom of two. Heard there was some solid hitting and two runs scored on a bunt play, behind a good pitching outing from our starter.

Controversial finish I hear. Any details? Monty got the lead off of the last on, next hitter hit a dribbler out to the pitcher and thinking it was a clear foul off of his foot decided not bother running and stayed in the batters box, the runner on first must have had the same view because he didn't move however Research played out the double play and the umpire ruled that it was a double play and two out. Obviously the Monty bench wasn't very happy with this and this led to a couple of ejections, Booth was one and I'm not sure on the other.

North Coburg Rebels looked good out there today Vs Monash Uni in B Grade I gotta say ! Might be a fun year watching our boys after our earlier game this year, particularly if they can keep that side out on the park with one or two possible inclusions still :-)

That's right We are back in action in the North East this year. We are all grouped together in a 14 round 8 team competition. All games were played at Wangaratta for the opening round. I personally was not there but I do know Wang Rangers B won 15-6 against Bears while the Wang Rangers A were defeated by Bears 11-1 I have been told Bears scored 8 in the 9th so another close game till late!

Just got back from up north, Porepunkah beat Bears B 12 - 6 then found out it was a forfeit and we won 12 - 0. Strange, four of their "A" players played in the early game and then played in the main event. Wang B played Benalla

Re GMBC controversial finish..with no audible call or signal by umps of a foul, why would !st base runner hold the bag? If he had run and it was a foul he would be protected from being put out. Seems like a running error to me.

Heard one of them at least had the decency to admit, after the game, that he tossed the wrong player. I suppose that's something

I suppose that's something Don't know about anybody admitting it, but when one of the umpires turns up and the first thing he has to says is how bad a mood he's in, and tell the boys they better be careful, there's a problem. How many times are players told to leave it on the field. Is it too much to ask that umpires keep their outside troubles off the field?

In the LVBA Churchill held on for a 5-4 win over Moe/Newborough in the A Grade and Moe/Newb beat Churchill 4-3 in the B Grade. Traralgon handed Sale a devastating loss beating them 19-0 in the A Grade.

Dandenong enjoyed a full weekend at their home stadium, hosting all eight of their senior teams this weekend. It is an excellent achievement for any club to put eight teams on the field on any given weekend, and that they had the scope to have them all at 'home' on the one weekend speaks volumes for those running the club.
Their Sunday results saw the Dandy B1 team beat the wanderers of the competition, Ormond-Glenhuntly. Dandenong beat Dandenong in B2 (apologies for not knowing which one was which), while the Berwick 'Hangar' B3 boys spoiled the party somewhat, winning 13-6 on the back diamond.
Many thanks to Harro for stepping in to umpire and the Berwick lads wish the Angels shortstop, who tore a quad running out a grounder a speedy recovery - hope she is back on the diamond soon.

StocKley..that's incredible!..not to mention unprofessional re the umpires comments before the game. You could almost think he believes the game is about him.
