Just new to this Forum and I don't want to be a smart-ass, but I am interested where these People Choice nominations come from (see BV Facebook): www.facebook.com/BaseballVictoria?ref=ts&v=wallWhere DO they come from? Are they nominated by Baseball Victoria staff, or by clubs? Is there a limit on how many times people can vote? Or will it be open slather on voting for your own club, or for your friends? Some of the nominations are a joke, aren't they? Nothing against masters baseball or against women's, but those competitions (and players) are hardly deserving of such accolades. Surely the awards should be restricted to the elite senior competitions (Division One and Two Men's).

Clearly winning the grand final is the pre-requiste for the coach of the year nomination, but I would have thought other coaches may be potentially up for it?
Matt Kent - taking the team from div 2 to 1 run off the div 1 grand final Shaun Moore - elevating Sunshine from a middle div 2 to minor premiers and back to div 1 next year

Shouldnt the 'Coach' of the Year be measured by his/her efforts throughout all Senior teams that that club put on the field that they 'Coached' OR should it read 'Manager' of the Year ?
If its Coach of the Year only the people in that club would know how well they did in coaching the talent pool at either end of the spectrum Id have thought.

Choice will always be subjective.

Wouldn't bvsl player of the year be best suited to someone who played most of the season at their club? And I reckon 1 of those suggested should also get peanut of the year... Maybe call it a Victorian baseball people's choice and then include the seppos.
Btw, I love Malvern, but we were not club of the year in the stretches of anyone's imagination. But thanks for the consideration BV

Stockley, last year's People's Choice Award winner for Coach of the Year was from a team that did not win their respective Grand Final.
Player, I would have thought Division One Women's was the 'elite' for women's baseball. Not saying that i agree they should be the winner in their respective categories, just not sure why someone from the women's league can't be in the running.

Good point Wearnie 52. I find it interesting that Womens (elite) players get canned out of hand without any evidence of their critics having watched Div 1 and higher games of their baseball. Obviously Cathy Freeman should never been the standard bearer at the Olympics on that logic, because there were men who ran faster in their races over the same distance..same for swimming et al. I don't expect a woman to win the award, but neither will any of the men who poll second down. My point is that nomination is WORTHY of consideration. On the other hand if it is fact a Mens Division 1 award, then simply call it that and make the criteria clear.

Seems to me that the People’s Choice thing is pointless and it has the potential to become a farce.
My son had a great season playing in his Under 16 team. I’d vote for him as Player of the Year if he was nominated. So would the rest of the family and plenty of his mates. Understandably.
Women’s Division One and Masters might be the elite at their level. So are kids playing Major League in summer, aren’t they? Why are there no junior nominations? Could there be? Should there be?
If we are going to lump men's, masters and women's together as having some sort of commonality upon which we are being asked to make a judgment, wouldn't it be fair to include juniors? They are players too.
Women’s and Men’s competitions already provide individual awards for excellence. They are rightly based on playing record and statistics. Those awards are objective, they have credibility and they have lasting meaning.
Why should we add a flawed popularity contest and thereby – in my mind - cheapen the prestigious existing awards? It is a contest that seems to hinge totally on A. somehow getting nominated; and B. being the most able to get your club, friends, family and dog to register an online vote that is purely subjective.
Having said that, the nominations may be of very worthy clubs or individuals. I'm just interested in who is eligible, how nominations are made and how the voting system operates.

Definitely agree with your thoughts on the system Player. It is a farce, and pointless, and I would suggest it takes away from the 'actual' award winners for the season.
It is merely a popularity contest online.
I'm not sure how the nominees are selected, but I'm pretty sure there was at least one junior player nominated last season?

It is pointless. Needs to be a better system than pulling obscure random name out of a hat. If fact I finding it embarrassing bad. Pull the plug........

Why not have a players choice separately in div 1 men's, women's and masters (if they want 1 too) and let the players decide

Why not have a players choice separately in div 1 men's, women's and masters (if they want 1 too) and let the players decide Yeah I agree, this would mean something...being recognised by ones peers would be the ultimate achievement at the highest level (Men & Women) and the stats being available would help too. In fact I'd have it that every Manager has to vote 3-2-1 and cant vote for their own players. Re Masters.... I could be wrong but Id be surprised if anyone playing Masters gives a stuff about Personal Awards/Rewards.
