Another great game by the young Nth Balwyn team against Research today and a bit stiff not to come home with the chocolates, after a controversial home run to John Edwards. Also had opportunities in the last two innings with bases loaded and one out, but couldn't put the game away, plenty of positives though around this group of players.

Probably fair to say a good result for the NB guys. Why controversial BTD?

Farnt, Edwards skys one to deep left field, the ball lands 4 feet inside the HR fence and makes a big divot in the ground and pops out, stays inside the field of play. The outfielder throws the ball to the cutoff, with Edwards on 1st base. Plate umpire then signals a home run. He is asked why and says he thinks it was a home run. Does not consult with the outfielder, the line umpire, the NB coach or even check where the ball landed. If it's any consolation for the NB youngsters, he admitted his mistake after the game.

Dave, agree, it was one of the best defensive infield plays I have seen for a very long time, sensational play, not to mention the other two plays in the hole at SS too. He is one of the best infielders in the A Grade competition.

Long time observer, first time poster. The bunt play has driven me to comment also. Last week Andy shut down Croydon and showed much maturity whilst Croydons highly regarded battery hit 5 NB hitters including 2 above the shoulders. Andy went about his business and held them to 2 runs for the afternoon. Always the best comeback. Yesterday, Davies bunt, with the winning run on second and one out in the last, was questionable but perfectly executed. The pick up and throw in one movement, close to 3rd base, was EXTRA ordinary. I dont know if he is one of the best but he rarely makes a mistake, is capable of making the miracle play and reads the play as well as anyone. Not sure what else he needs to do to impress "slowmotion" ? Or maybe he has not seen him play much?

Westgarth over Ringwood about 9-2 in the 1s.
2s lost about 8-3, wasn't a great game.
D. Dicker, thanks for the Crisp Blend Saturday morning, was not bad at all.

Bout time you moved on SM. Andy Mann is highly rated at his new winter club and is one of their best players.

BTH, agree with you on SM. Can I say that I am a bit fed up on the Any Mann bashing. I have known Andy Mann and his family for over 10 years, my son has played with him on state teams and against him in club ball over the years. His parents have family values second to any I know and I see the same in Andy. Yes he lost his temper during a game, who hasn,t that does play the game hard, behaviour which I find out of character with the Andy I know, but why do nameless people keep riding him on it yet on other parts of the forum the baseball commmuinty speak with gusto about the good old days and the multiple episodes of fighting and often the people mentioned are now held in high regard within the baseball fraternity. Let it go on Andy. And for those who question his abilities, I am glad to see he must have shaken of all the injury issues he has had the last few years and is back to playing the quality baseball I know he can, just so long as he has a bad day when he plays against the Roy boys and the Burras.

falcons got up over mitchell majors 19-2, great people up there and a great field too... Re the Andy Mann scenario,I've had limited involvement with Andy through coaching juniors etc.. Andy is a great guy and a super talent, has been since he was very young. Does he regret that day at knox everytime he steps on the field? Id say so. Im certainly not one for dragging anyone through the mud for on field actions, Ive been on the wrong end of one myself and i think that if you take the field you need to assume the risk that one day you may be injured at no or little fault of your own, But Leftie, you cant put that incident down to playing the game hard. I agree that its way to long ago to bring up everytime Andy does something great on the field, but, with incidents like the one he was involved with (which I agree is way out of character), you will never be able to stop people bringing it up. I dont agree with it, but it will always happen..

is it true that once you put on a NB or Melb uniform you become the the greatest player to ever play the game BTD

Masters, typical comment from one of the biggest wankers on this forum. If I recall correctly, you and others were bagging NB last year too, only to be disappointed the kids played well and stayed up in A Grade. Obviously you or your club are not good enough to play at the top level and you're still reeling from the shellaking the kids gave you two years ago when they were in B Grade. Better still, go get a room with slow motion and sink a few tinnies.

Behind the dish. I still don't rate Andy mann as an infielder. When are you going to wake up and pull your head out of your as$, and realise he ain't that good. There are a lot of better middle infielders in Victoria.

Yep, nice World Series Ring for Brad...thought he did make two errors on the weekend so is human (and Watsonia's infield isn't exactly Citizen's Bank Park).
I'm an Andy fan after seeing him keep Preston very quiet Game Two Div 2 final last summer. I know he's not the only person who has had an indiscretion early in his career so let's move on and put the assessment on hold until March when we see how Melbourne (and Andy) go in Div One.

Thought you might have been implying finals action.
While I certainly wouldn't put that beyond any team, I saw that as a pretty big call hence my reaction, I now take it back.
Looking forward to KC's preseason write up.
