N-Cob/Resa Rebels down 1-0 early to Latrobe Uni then the rain and hail bucketed down and game called and 'no result' in BRes.
B Grade and the Rebels were down 3or4 usual starters and had a team that resembled it 2's team a bit and the 2's boys stepped up big time to get another win (3-1 I think this time) over Latrobe Uni.
Dave great on the mound and pretty inspirational again across the 2 hours.
3's got beat by Footscray I believe, maybe 13-7 I think.

Yesterday we lost B Grade to Monash giving up 3 in the last. 5 runs should not have won the game though, we played poorly. Credit to Monash both on and off the field, did a very good job getting the water off the diamond. The reserves got up which put them back into the top four. A and A res both beat GMBC

Interesting finish to a MWBL B Res game on Sat.
Westgarth up 14-0 against Diamond Creek @ Diamond Creek
With ten minutes remaining in the game (five to five minute rule), umpire calls "time and game". Our coach argues that you can't finish early. DC relunctantly agree and we head out for the last inning.
Diamond Creek try a young kid on the hill, but unfortunatley, the gamble doesn't work out the way they hoped, and Westgarth pile on another 14 or so runs, despite, in the spirit of sportsmanship, trying several times to "allow" us to be put out, and a significantly expanded strike zone - sometimes WE convinced umpire to called strikes when he's initial thought was to call "Ball".
With two out, a somewhat fed up umpire (official, not club), convinced by Diamond Creek, calls time and game again and walks off the field. Diamond Creek don't finish the innings, therefore our runs are ruled "ineligibe" due to incomplete innings.
Given we are chasing top spot with Knox and they had a 33-3 win over the weekend, I argue that our runs should in fact count and that by electing NOT to complete the innings, we are entitled to the runs.
I certainly understand where DC were coming from, it wasn't much fun for anyone, but still, the rules are there and need to be followed. If you start a dig, you finish it.
Thoughts?

Marshy, check rule 18 in the MWBL match conditions, my reading of it, says the game should have gone ahead until the inning was completed. not sure what the process is for the runs to be awarded now though, get your secretary onto it I'd say. rubebaker was talking to jrogers

Thanks dafarm. Nice to hear from you big guy. We need to talk about pitching......
I am certainly not wanting to make a mountain of a mole hill, just seeking thoughts from the community.

Let us not raise the scenario whereby Diamond Creek could have scored several last innings runs and actually hurt your percentage more than it would have helped it.
Even with the extra runs, you'd be a point and significant percentage still behind Knox from my calculations.
Just keep winning and let other results take care of themselves.

I think you have it all wrong Stuartcapel. We get to play baseball for 2 hours each week, rules are there for a purpose. When you only get to play for 2 hours why would you want to miss out on your last ab just because an opposition team wants to quit. Poor form from diamond creek.

Tough one Marshy, on the one hand it is surprisingly poor form from DC. Not sure what was going on there. And the lost % chance is a fair point to argue and you probably were hard done by (for reasons that remain odd ?) BUT Ive never liked it when games turn this ugly and at this time of year when teams can tend to crunch lowly teams (meaningfully or because they just give up).
And I guess in Winter there comes a time when that last dig in the early game just has to end to get the next game on the park before light becomes an issue at the end of their game.

No slowmotion, I actually agree with you to an extent. I'm not for a moment going to argue the toss over the five minute to five minute rule issue - you play to the five minute rule and if after that time, an innings is completed you shake hands and head to the bar. No issue whatsoever.
My suggestion is however that if you're 14-0 up over the bottom side, why do you need to have another innings in which just to prove your superiority and give them an even bigger belting? To me (and maybe only me), I can think of several ways to make outs after getting to half a dozen runs in the innings, but from the post, above, it appears that while a strike or two may have been coerced out of the umpire, everyone was willing to belt the kid from pillar to post. Swing at a ball in the dirt, drift off base and get tagged, there are options available.
From what I read above, it seemed a 'woe is we' story that a team didn't get a chance to win 30-0.
Had it been a one-run game, I don't think any umpire would just call it off. That it was nearing 30 runs and the umpire did what he did may just keep the kid that was trying his best and getting pounded all over the shop in the game. I'll go on a limb and say if that's the case, then well umpired.
If the worst thing that happens on your Saturday is that you won 14-0, then I think most of us will agree it's been a pretty good day.

It's an early game, as authentic mentions, and this is an obvious reason why a game should not run significantly over time.
Unless I am mistaken, B Reserve games in my old Vic Winter are still two hours with the five-minute rule. Maybe administrators could think about applying a regulation used by the GBA for early games (see at bottom).
Namely, two hour games, with the five-minute rule, but with no early game to go past 2.10 (for a 12.00 start). This means that an innings can be started before 1.55. If it is a close game, then either side still has a chance of winning before the 2.10 deadline (when scores would revert back if the innings was not completed).
If it's a blowout, such as the instance mentioned, then the result is physically not able to change. Commonsense would prevail and the umpire would call the game at 2.00 (in this case with Westgarth winning 14-0, any further runs would not count). The full two-hour game would have been played, so no-one could complain about missing their ABs.
No timed game structure is perfect. Under the GBA model, a team can still get to feel dudded. For example, Team A could be behind by 5. They batted first and start a final innings at 1.53. The team scores six runs to get ahead of Team B, but doesn't have time to retire the opposition before 2.10.
That's just unfortunate. But it is one of the constraints forced upon us by timed games and double-headers.
If the innings had been played out to the bitter end, what if Diamond Creek had gotten on a roll - or of there was a hold-up through player injury? We could have had the higher grade - the club's first sides - not starting their game until sundown.
10.7 The 5 /10 Minute Rule shall apply for all for Early Games If at completion of an even innings, when the third out is called, there remains more than 5 minutes playing time before the scheduled finishing time, further time of up to 10 minutes past the scheduled finish time shall be allowed to complete the innings shall be played, except where the home team needs none of its half innings or a fraction of it. Should this innings not be completed then the result reverts back to normal rules (either even innings or the score at the end of play). If five minutes or less remains on completion of even innings when the third out is called, the game ends.
