After being competitive in a number of games, Werribee finally broke through for its first win - 8-4 over Bacchus Marsh. Ballarat Brewers had an eight-run second dig to set up their 11-1 result over Bellarine. Ben Hammer hit a grand slam and had five of Lara's RBIs as the Wildcats dispensed with Saints 7-1. A huge Sunday game coming up between Guild and Deakin. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

In a major disappointment for its supporters, Deakin faltered in defence against Guild - with six damaging errors - to incur a 1-11 loss in the GBA Sunday game. Brad Egan scattered three hits over seven for the Lions. Hiro Sekine three hits and two RBIs. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Werribee delivered the upset of the round by downing Deakin Blues 7-0. The Blues now have to back up on Sunday against Lara, who whitewashed Bacchus Marsh 6-0 (Aaron Green nine innings for Lara) and are likely to call on Joel Ricketts and Cameron Forbes. Guild overcame an early deficit to scoot away against Bellarine and hold on 12-10 after the Bears hit back in the last. Sunday's other big clash will see Saints play host to Ballarat Brewers (at Pioneer Park). www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

In the two Sunday games: Saints and Brewers played out 3-3 draw, with Josh Lee (Saints) and Adam Irons (Brewers) both throwing nine for their clubs. Lara dealt a further blow to Deakin by handing out an 13-3 beating that only turned ugly when the Wildcats scored nine in the last. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Lara 5-1 over Ballarat Brewers in GBA, with Ben Hammer's two-run bomb in the sixth proving decisive. Guild offence was on fire in its 12-4 result over Saints, while Werribee led all the way for an 8-5 win over Bellarine. Not quite an upset, but certainly a disappointment for Malty and his men as Bacchus pegged back a deficit to force a 3-3 draw. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

While the big news around the GBA was Josh Spence sitting down the first three hitters that he faced in Major League Baseball (Heyward strikeout, Chipper Jones pop-up and McCann ground out), there was plenty of action in his old winter league. Simon Murry went the complete game in Bellarine's 2-1 result over Deakin, whose offence is struggling to get anything going. Saints plated three in the first and four in the third to set up a 7-4 result over Werribee, whose best player was Earl Byrne with a couple of knocks and five innings of scoreless work on the hill. Bacchus had an early lead but could not contain the Ballarat offence in a lack-lustre contest that saw the Brewers win out 11-7 in chilly conditions. The game of the round will be on Sunday, at Lara, when the Wildcats take on Guild Lions in a top-of-the table clash. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Guild has assumed league leadership (on head-to-head) after dispensing with Lara 7-2 on Sunday. Liam Vicary-Lovegrove threw five innings of quality work for Guild in a heated contest between fierce rivals. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

With key players missing, Guild had a forgettable day at the office to the tune of a 13-3 belting by Ballarat Brewers, who are a realistic chance of a top-two finish. Deakin got up 9-8 in the last of a terrific contest against Saints, whose "Go Pink for Cancer" day was very well supported. Lara belted ten in the second to set up its 19-0 whitewash over Werribee, while Bellarine held off Bacchus Marsh 3-2 in a decent game of baseball down at Masons Lane. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Deakin did it again late, with another one-run result (this time over flag favourite Lara, 6-5). Bellarine scored a couple in the seventh to force a 5-5 draw with Saints. Guild has taken top placing - for now at least - with a 14-2 result over Bacchus Marsh, while Ballarat Brewers (third) are a point behind Guild and Lara after their comfortable 8-2 win over a depleted Werribee. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Deakin continued its rich vein of form with a gutsy 6-3 result over the Brewers, who were at full strength and really needed to win to give themselves a shot at securing the double chance. Saints put up a nine-spot in bottom of the first (in reply to four) to overpower Bacchus Marsh 10-5 and Guild held top placing by whitewashing Werribee 7-0. Lara plays host to Bellarine on Sunday for those desperados who'd like to get down to the snakepit for what could be a closer game than expected by some. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Saints edged into third placing by belting Ballarat 8-3. The Brewers drop to fourth, just a win (but a fair bit of percentage) ahead of fifth-placed Deakin, who smacked Werribee 13-0. League-leading Guild was never really extended in downing Bellarine 7-1, while second-placed Lara plays host to winless Bacchus Marsh on Sunday. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Fourth-placed Ballarat Brewers pretty much sank Deakin as a play-off chance by handing the Blues a 9-0 drubbing, while Saints remains in third after downing Bacchus Marsh 8-3. Lara and Guild head the table (both at twelve and three) after the Wildcats blanked Bellarine 4-0 and Guild dispensed with Werribee 9-2. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Guild assumed outright league leadership with a 6-5 result over second-placed Lara. Saints took advantage of a fumble-fingered Werribee defence to win 11-6, while Rory Meddick starred in Ballarat's 7-0 whitewash of Bacchus Marsh. Deakin finally dealt with its nemesis of recent years to edge home 10-9 over Bellarine. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Guild remains clear on top in A Grade with its 8-1 result over Saints, who go to fourth after Brewers (now third) downed Lara 4-3 in a thriller. Interest remains in second placing, which is currently held down by Lara by a half game. If the Brewers beat Bellarine in the last round and Saints beat Lara (which is on the cards with Cameron Forbes, Ross Wilson and Joel Ricketts missing from the lineup), then Brewers will go to second. Bellarine scored eight in the first to set up a mercy-rule result over Werribee, while Bacchus Marsh won its first game of the season in style - scoring five in the bottom of the last to pip Deakin 6-5. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Ballarat Brewers have snatched second placing and will meet Guild in next weekend's Second Semi-Final. The Brewers blanked Bellarine 10-0 and inched a half game ahead of Lara, who were rolled by Saints 7-5. Lara will meet Saints in the elimination First Semi-Final. Deakin downed a seriously depleted Guild 12-4, while Bacchus Marsh finished its season on a positive note with a 6-5 result over Werribee. Schedule for the first week of finals will be posted later tonight (Saturday). Our GBA finals preview will be online by Wednesday morning. Best wishes to all clubs participating in finals. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Guild beat Lara 4-1 in the Preliminary Final to qualify to play Ballarat Brewers in the GF next Saturday. Brad Egan and Stuart Barnes held the Lara offence to four hits, while Mitch Miller, Liam Vicary-Lovegrove and Steven Shiells did the scoring damage for the Lions. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au
