Well said Buddha,
The rookies haven't been named, so no need to name the umpire.

I think people should not be concetrating on the "father" (not an umpire) and the Rookies and may be getting in to the guys on this team that exposed underage players and a 10 year old to porn magazines in the dugout. And also purchased and encouraged to underage players to drink beer....
These guys need to grow up and stand up to take the blame here..... These sorts of actions do nothing for our sport...
Time for the DBA to realise we are in the 21st centary and maybe some of their "traditions" are not longer acceptable...

I think the best way for future DBA senior trips to avoid any of the above(junior players), is that all senior Players playing in this carnival too be of 18years & above, I understand there are some great talented kids out playing senior ball, but they do have their own age group to play in, I understand some of you might not feel the same way but it's just my thought!!!

I think you will find that one of these juniors parents offered to have the child with them, and they were told that they should stay with the team....

dont have much to say to that, but i'm guessing is future that may be the best option. Then we all know that they would be supervised at all times.

At the end of the day all of the guys are there to represent the association and the clubs they are playing for. It always seems that there is some trouble when the DBA guys are away for the champs. Do other associations have as many issues? Going forward the DBA could always suspend the player/players for club games if they decide to play up when they are representing them.

Agree with puma there innthe "porn" and flip whoever you are. This was never exposed to a 10 year old. He was kept away from it at all times. If there was a problem then the father would have known from day 1 but didn't do anything then for some reason.
I agree with the if your not 18+ your not aloud to come away on a senior Dba trip unless staying and supervised by your parents. This takes the chance away of any of this and if it happens then it's there own problem. Sounds harsh but I'm sick of certain people pregnant doging about this an that.
ITS A SENIOR TOURNY. Everything is not going to change just because there is an underage on the bench!
What will susspending players from normal club ball do? Other then Piss alot of people off!! Let the players who were on the bench everyday and back in the rooms every night worry about the facts! Don't make up crap from what you heard or maybe saw a snippet of.

Why should talent juniors be penalised because and association can not appoint responsible people and enforce codes of conduct... Lets not forget its a Senior team. Why should another senior player be put out of the team because a "talent junior" wants to play in another tournament other than they're own? Thats not to say that the codes of conduct shouldn't be reviewed.

Until the mid eighties, Senior Carnivals and Under 19 Colts (as the series was then) were run concurrently over the Queen's Birthday weekend.
By the same association, at the same venues, but with the senior and junior teams often staying in different accommodation.
Now that BV (like the ABF) has adopted the approach of running two tournaments concurrently (such as the Under 18s and Under 14s in a couple of weeks), maybe we should look at reverting to the Senior Championship and the Under 18 Championship both being held over the long weekend, but not necessarily hosted by the same winter league.
If that is what people want, it would serve to separate the senior winter component from the under-aged events that are on offer.
A reasonable Code of Conduct would of course need to apply in this or in any other case, but maybe the separation of junior from senior baseball players would help minimise some of the potential issues with having sixteen or seventeen year-olds playing with, staying with and socialising with men in some cases twice their age.

as a current rookie who has been away on senior carnival I would be absolutely shattered if this tourney was made 18+, rookies can make there own decisions, we are not FORCED to do anything. It's not like we're 12, 13 going on these trips, I was 15 when I first went away & was mature enough to make decisions for myself, & as for the bench porn? What teenager hasn't seen that before?

just so you all know while the DBA boys were going through normal warm ups of a morning, like a ninja i snuck down to the dug-out and found porn mags, but as i opened one, ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh BIG BLACK STICKERS everywhere, so in my opinion there just the same as FHM, and everyone knows that these books are bought for the articals...

there just magazines, its harmless, these guys could look up worse stuff at home if they hit the wrong key, give em a break or next year they will have to bring gardening mags to the park, now wouldnt that be a hoot.

I love it how everyone is just an armchair specialist. Looking at heinsight and just looking for things to complain about! Dndvwhy shouldn't we name the umpire? Your all pretty happy putting the dba's name out there telling bullish!t and half truths so why should the truth not be told? The rookies on this trip were not forced to buy porn! And I can garentee that they have seen more than black dots because one of the 17 year olds brought a mag that was actually his from home! The rest were people magazine which are softer than FHM! and about the rookies drinking they barely touched it our coach didn't drink all weekend so when thru went out for dinner he could drive all the rookies back to the motel so they didn't go out with the older guys! You tools need to get some facts before you start pointing the finger! The rookies have it very easy these days you could ask any of them none of them were forced to fo anything. And you know why they did it...because THEY wanted to!
