And before anyone takes offence at that remark, it was just a play on words.

Just a pity the ABL will delegate him to Perth next season!

I like the look of Miramontes, Journeyman. I wonder how they will use him, as he seems best in a short relief role. Daniels and Boling look OK, but against a top quality Perth line-up, we'll see over the next few days just how good the "seppo's" are.

Stu, Miramontes has been lights out, as eagle1 says. Might be a bit different having to step up to this level. Daniels has already made an appearance for the Bite in round 1, threw 1 inning for an 18.00 ERA, which could be a worry. Haven't seen Boling as yet, but have been told by eagle1 that he looks good.
I have to say that if anyone wants to shut the Heat down it is going to take some doing, especially if the finals are still best of 3, it doesn't give anyone a lot to play with. They (Heat) looked pretty good last night.

I've seen all teams now except the ACES, I reckon your are right JM, if you took that Perth Roster and played a full season A+ in the USA they would be competitive. HEAT setting the benchmark again in season 2 for the rest of the field to catchup with.

Hey TL, I've seen everyone but the Bandits, and I will get to see them in Perth tomorrow night, but I don't think that will make me change my mind at all.
The Heat are far and away the team that is setting the benchmark, as you point out.

Beckman is also a big loss Journeyman. Heading into the stretch run, a dominant ninth innings guy is like gold for any manager.
Hu will replace who? I mean Who will replace Hu? I'm guessing Cresswell but he's really struggled at the dish this season. Maybe his three hit game against Saupold has broken him out of his funk though. For the Aces sake, I hope he reverts back to Struggle Street for the next few days.

Yes, Beckman will be hard to replace, even allowing for his 1-2 record and 6 saves with a couple of blown saves as well. when you add into that the loss of Sena, Katayama, and Isaka from the pitching and then Hu it is a lot to contend with. Most clubs are in the same position though and it is a case of having to deal with it. I see that Daniels and Miramontes are both on the roster so they will help the depth, but it is hard to replace the guys who have gone.
As far as Hu's replacement goes it would have to be Cresswell or even Josh Cakebread. Cakebread is hitting .228 compared to Cresswell .153, so I would go with the better average I think.
Not my decision though.

A crowd of 2,206 last night! Regular season record crowd? Great atmosphere, great weather an ok game just to many errors and the bats were quite due to Niit throwing bullets. Derek threw well and so did Owen (where did Owen come from by the way?).

Owen Ozanich came out here to play for East Torrens. They got onto him through Paul Mildren, Owen is a member of the French National team.

it is with interest that I notice Adelaide's much lauded offence is starting to lose it. At the start of today's first game they didn't have one starter with a batting average over .300. I would have thought that for a minor leaguer to be worth his salt in the Minors he would have to be hitting above .300.
It's just an observation, but it makes you wonder!

After the Bite - Bandits game results today and the possible outcomes of the rest of the games today and tomorrow almost anyone could still finish in the four!
Good finish to the season for the fans, but a nailbiter!

If my calculations are correct Adelaide has everyone but Melbourne head to head in the case of a tie.
So that may yet be a good thing.

Journeyman, Noticed your post (or was it someone elses) about a review of the Bite this season has come down. Regardless, given no one else has really had a go at it, I thought I’d give an outsider-looking-in’s opinion of the Bite this season. To me, the pitching has, was and for now, always will be the key to the Bite, and after a strong year last season, the cupboard was somewhat barer in 11-12. The early injury to Jandy Sena was a blow, but I think he would have been recalled around the same time as Beckman as well, though we’ll never know for sure. Personally, I thought Sena was somewhat of a risk anyway as he missed time last season in the US with a dead arm and the stats suggest there were still issues. As per last season, the trio of Ruzic, Mildren and Fidge were the keys for Adelaide, but last year they had Brandon Maurer (5-1 3.00era) and Mark Brackman (2-1 3.40era) who gave them valuable innings, especially late in the season. This year once Sena left and Ryohei Isaka went home, the Adelaide pitching staff looked very thin, especially as series moved from four games to five. Last season, they’d have been well placed, but not so this season. It was interesting to see Tony Harris try starting Wayne Ough in Melbourne and relieving his big three, and then getting them to start the back three games of the series. While in Melbourne it worked first time, the big three then lost all their starts, then Ough got injured (related?) and the Bite’s slump was on. After the home Perth series (when Beckman went home), the Bite closed the season 6-13 having started 15-15, and the pitching was a major part to it. Not that the loss of Hu helped, and Denny Almonte, who was a monty for league MVP at Christmas time, decided to become the second-coming of Yong Sup Kwak after downing his Christmas pud. I was excited to get the opportunity watch him play in Melbourne and while the Aces won the series 4-1, I left somewhat disappointed in Almonte. He looked lethargic at times though put on the after-burners when a highlight-reel play was possible, and hit poorly (1-20 for the series). Plus I copped a heap from those around me as I’d talked him up and he delivered so little over four days. While the imports numbers this season were arguably better (.261-35-114-14) than last season (.265-25-85-7), this years numbers were achieved in 730 ab’s compared to last season’s 471. Bump last year’s numbers to 730ab’s and the numbers improve to .265-38-131-11, so arguably this season’s imports were down on last seasons. Locally, Jeremy Creswell slumped from .276 to .178 and Scott Gladstone hit a respectable .274 though well down from his 10-11 number of .354. Josh Cakebread lost over fifty points off his average. Carlton Tanabe (.141-3-11-1) hit poorly, meaning Harris had to use Chris Adamson (.159-0-2-0), as the catcher production fell dramatically. Even though Brandon Bantz hit just .226, he hit eight home runs and had twenty-six RBI in 10-11. For next season, GM Kelly really needs to strengthen his rotation. All of the big three logged more innings this season than last (184 innings up from 160, combined ERA up and HRs allowed up from 23 to 35). I am sure he will get some catching help, though Jarryd Klemm, who became a crowd target in Melbourne very late in the series, does deserve a bit of a look-in next season. A centre fielder seems a given and they may go back for another left fielder given Latimore and Jones have patrolled the members wing over the past two seasons. I’d be interested in finding out why Brendon Pett didn’t play much this season. I thought he looked good last year. I’ve no doubt with a few adjustments, the Bite will be a better side next year than what we saw this season. Have to figure out a way to beat Perth though, having won just twice in the last dozen meetings against the Heat. On the positive, it’s hardly is if you’re Robinson Crusoe there.

Hey Stu, good sum up. I pretty much agree with everything you said. Although I'm not sure about Klemm, while I agree with you, he may not be here next season, he is looking for a college gig at the moment. The backup catching could be done by Joe Atkins, after a season in the minors he could be the answer.
I think it all hangs on the pitching though, which at times this season was good and then patchy. If the imports aren't staying for the whole season then I'm not sure they help that much. As Melbourne and Brisbane found out last season, and Adelaide this season, better to have guys who stay for the playoffs. Not a lot of point getting there if you aren't going to be competitive.
If I'm not mistaken Perth seem to be the most pro active club, they lost a pitcher who went back to the US and then they brought out Vasquez who played just 2 games in the minor round, then wins the MVP for the Championship series. That is supreme recruiting, Adelaide need to take note of that and adopt a "whatever it takes" mentality too.
