After watching a handful of games last season I was just wondering why don't player in the ABL shake each others hands? And what was others take on it ? My guess is because pros in US don't, but surely there's no need to adopt every characteristic of their game? (such as the persistent commentary) It may be impractical for the whole roster to shake hands, so why not the 11-12 blokes who featured most in the game.... I can't think of many sports in Australia where a handshake doesn't feature and after a great game/series it's a good way to send the visitors home form the crowd perspective. Anyway that's my take...anyone agree?! Read more: baseballradio.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=abl5&action=display&thread=2711#ixzz1cKjUn1j8

Can't say I've ever seen in it the ABL or Claxton Shield.
I think you would be surprised how much guys chat before and after games and plenty of good lucks and well dones handed out.
And why shouldn't it be adopted? It's their sport we are playing!!

I think that by making a public display of good sportsmanship sends a great message to the young players and kids even if it doesn't matter so much to older grizzled veteran fans. Play hard, play fair, shake hands and leave it on the field. I reckon that's a good thing.

Part of the game, why change it? Keep the tradition as that's what's most important.
That's why I love baseball so much - they don't change the rules every year like cricket and AFL.
