Sorry all I have been on holiday in the US since the 7th and wont return until next week. Will give you more when I return. As far as players, our MLB contracted players we wont know thier status until we get probably into September and the rest of the team will follow when we know more from them and when they will return and that is all around the ABL. As far as I am concerned Phil will be back with us and that has not changed and the coaches will follow at that time. Hi Windsor, Whilst the playing side of the list confirmation will have to wait until closer to the season, what about an update on the Showgrounds for this season. Any changes changes planned ? ie any chance the fences will extend further ? Enjoy the remainder of your trip The newsletter answered that question. Devil is always in the detail. It mentioned that fence is growing 2 metres. Last season it was double container height at right and also at centerfield. Does 2 metres higher mean it goes to 3 containers at right and center and the equivalent of 2 high in all other areas. Hmm, devil is in the detail. Whatever the case, it sounds like a positive move.

Thanks to authentic for this link
It is the Jet Couriers Melb Aces newsletter that was sent to members recently. For some unknown reason may members including myself never received it.

Who does the Facebook page for the ACES?
Melbourne Aces Our man Josh Spence didn't just get the call up! his producing the goods! check him out striking out Freddie Freeman from Atlanta at the top of the 7th!
Yes, it is social media. That's why I wouldn't really care about the missing capitals at the start of sentences. I know people find it hard to find either of the 2 shift keys on the standard qwerty keyboard, even though they are considerably larger than any of the letter keys. But seriously, confusing "his" and the contraction of "he is" is really poor in my opinion.

I'm with you, Chilli.
It's amateurish and sloppy. So is the use of old Arizona State images of Josh on ABL websites. Surely we can get something more current.
And just by the way, what's this talk of Josh Spence somehow "belonging" to the Melbourne Aces. He hasn't played a game with them and I'm not even sure he was on the roster.
Wishful thinking maybe.

If that's the worst thing going on in your life atm chilli, thinks are looking pretty good. Clearly things are not good. I only noticed because I have very few friends on facebook, hence I was able to notice this simple yet annoying grammatical error. Also, as you'll notice in the supplied pie chart, here is an accurate break-down of most people's friends lists on facebook. As you can see, according to this scientific evidence, I have very few real-life friends. So no, "thinks" are not looking pretty good at the moment.

I would have thought a photo from the San Diego Padres from "The Bigs" might of been nice? And spelling and grammer for press release?? Isn't that "journalism 101"??

I, like many other "Hard Core" supporters of the "Aces", didn't receive our Update. Considering that I was one of the earlier renewals doesn't fill me with confidence that there hasn't been a SNAFU here that will become apparent as the season gets closer. With computer technology these days it surely isn't a big deal to CC an e-mail to all registered members on the membership database. Also even though we are still over 4 months away surely some things are set in place for the coming season that you can let us fans into. Things like ground improvements for this season for example. Such things as the provision of shade for members seating both sides of home plate, more toilets (Male) especially located on the Bar side of the ground. By doing so keeps members interested and makes them feel like they are involved with the club rather than just a cash cow who only becomes important when the season starts! Neil W

You think what's been asked of here has been too much, Puma?
Go to a forum such as BigFooty and see the complaining that goes on there. If you typed out your previous post to every thread critical of something over there, then I think you'd be there for a while.

Ahh, you're on about the Grammar!
When there's been three topics mentioned (Spence's photo, no newsletter for members, his vs he's), may pay to actually mention which one you're on about.
The Grammar is something in reality we should care less about as it's Facebook, and there's no Grammar Police there. I'd suggest the newsletter however is a legitimate issue, and I can certainly understand the gripe about the lack of an updated photo for Spence (though I find it slightly ironic in a way as no one has ever seen him in an Aces uniform).

I think spelling and that is important? "Grammar police and facebook"!! Quality examples of what we're willing to accept. But rumour has it Nathan Aaron released from Yankees? Does anyone know anything concrete? It made me start thinking about the Aces! Will Nathan still be with them?

Wouldn't have thought he'd have been given his release, dag.
Word a couple of weeks ago was that he'd undergone elbow surgery and is rehabbing the injury here in Melbourne, hence why some people may have seen him around recently.
Was previously tipped to be plaing Short A ball with Staten Island before the injury, so let's hope that means he's still in organised ball over there and just waiting to get back from injury.

You'll be in Port's lower grades, seeing a bit of Waverley women's ball, helping out with some junior coaching and writing some of the best facebook status updates going around. And hopefully, if your name is called out over the loudspeakers at The Showgrounds during an Aces game, you're not called 'Kate' again!

PLEASE.....can someone give me, and all of us, any updates on the upcoming season. In the last 2 weeks I have called the Aces office and left messages (unreturned) I have emailed several times (unanswered) so now I will try this approach. I have a friend who's son is at the academy in Queensland and the word she's hearing back from there is that David Nilson won't be coaching Queensland, Tony Harris is doubtful for the Bite and Phil Dale hasn't heard anything about the Aces job. Glen Williams isn't going to coach N.S.W so that leaves the 2 U.S. coaches in Perth & ACT. Are we going to be denied seeing our Aussie players as well? Sounds like it is going to become a league for U.S. players and coaches, controlled by U.S. administrators, Peter Wearmouth & Winsor Knox with a bunch of U.S. interns. Until I hear differently I'm becoming more and more disenchanted.

The silence is a bit deafening isn't it! In their defense it is still about 5 months out from the season start and even the local leagues wouldn't have started in depth planning for the coming season would they? Having said that the lack of public planing and involvement of fans in the clubs plans for the forthcoming season is concerning, especially when the fragile nature of the re-established ABL and Aces franchise is considered. The added involvement of Coaches and players from the USA is natural considering their involvement (MLB) in the financing of the ABL IMHO. Neil W

It's always nice to read good news stories about emerging young baseball players. And it's a pleasure to sometimes be in a position to write those stories.
What is it, though, about this supposedly professional Aces organisation that it seems to think it OK to cut and paste website material from other sources without even extending the courtesy of acknowledging the writer or the source?
I don't know how many times this concern has to be expressed for the message to sink in.
It's poor form, Aces management. If you are not prepared to engage writers of your own and to develop your own communications presence, at least have the decency to observe reasonable professional protocol.

Now now KC, if they can't get a cap out to someone in a timely manner, following a professional protocol certainly isn't likely to happen

Sadly I think parentofone is right here, The game as we know it is changing and I'm still not sure if it is for better or worse. The number of issues going on in the local game is astounding and the authorities have already proved they couldn't organize a chook raffle so no improvement on the horizon there and the national league can't/won't tell anything probably because they don't know themselves. This sport will never earn a serious place in our sporting landscape being run the way it is!! sorry nearly forgot.........MONKEYS!!

"If you put 100 monkeys in a room with 100 typewriters................. " "This story was not subject to the approval of the Australian Baseball League or its clubs." I'll openly credit the Melbourne Aces own website for the above quote and Thomas Henry Huxley for the part quote above that.

To the critics in this thread I'd save your breath/fingers, clearly the Aces office doesnt read this thread, because if they did and had half a brain they'd send the bloody caps out and get that sorted wouldnt they (I left the ? out so Chilli can mark my post down to a 6/10 :-))
If I was sponsoring them I'd want a meeting to talk about trying to stop the negativity out in the public domain by making a few smart choices about how to appease the same people they (the organisation and the sponsors) need for the venture to be a success i.e. the fans.

I may be stoopid but I will probably take out an Aces membership for this coming season. The bottom line is that I still want to watch great baseball and at least then I'll be in a position to ear bash Windsor at home games as a bone fide member. (at least doesn't hide himself away from the proletariate!). Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.
