Greetings all,
As one of the 783 in attendance on Sunday, I was wondering what everyone else thought of the day, the ground, the seating, etc.
What did you like (aside from the results) and what didn't you like?

I went Friday night and stood in the rain and it had a buzz about the place, full house will be amazing, just some things the Aces need to work on.... Having change at the box office, maybe some more food & drink stands, bar area looked good. how about some dancing girls say between 18 - 23 year olds? ?

As someone who could only make the Friday, I'd have liked a roof. The playing dimensions ended up being even cosier than was being touted - even centre field is very shallow. I was disappointed that it appeared they'd rounded off centre - I'd have enjoyed the quirk and extra space of the corner. Obviously they are currently hampered by the size of the arena but I hope that in future seasons they are able to extend the ground - there seems to be space to at least push out right field. That pretty much completes my grumbles (well the food seemed expensive - but at what professional sporting venue is that not true, and I wish it were closer to my house but that's just selfish) - overall I'm very optimistic that it will be a terrific place to watch baseball. The seating is right on top of the field - it will will be a great view - better than the old football grounds. Bring on December 10, it's gonna be fun.

I absolutely loved the opening weekend. It was really special to see so many people come on Friday and Saturday and still enjoy the experience despite there being no play. With this kind of core the league has a great future.
Like: - The incredible dedication of the ground staff to not only prepare it in time for Friday night, but also maintain it over the weekend. The field looked phenomenal given the conditions. - The music. - How many leagues and nationalities are represented on the field. - The short time-gap between games on Sunday. Going from last year was expecting quite a break and actually brought work with me to do. - On a warm summer's night with a full-house, The Show is going to be AMAZING.
Suggest: - To be honest, doing away with designated seating in member's area altogether. I know it's not a nice idea for people who went to seat allocation but I personally find it a bit wanky. Also the fact that a lot of members can't make many games. Plus it just makes the whole job for the crew more difficult. - Better audibility for PA system. There are many deaf spots on the ground where you can't hear the announcer. - Making sure music isn't blaring when the announcer is speaking. - More choice of food stands. Even just a lunch-bar style place with bakery, sandwiches, rolls etc. would cater to many more people. - Maybe some games/activities on the lawn area between entrance gate and visitor team rooms. (In fact, anything to keep the annoying kids who for some reason have to run past you back and forth over your feet every 6.5 minutes occupied.) - More video footage to play before/after games, between innings, reliever warm-up, during weather. The MC walking around with a camera is good but maybe player interviews, footage packages etc. to break it up a bit. - Rig the blue monster to do something really, really cool if a ball hits/lands on it. - Employ me as a staff member for ABL - would be cool.

I like the idea for allocated seats Wheezer. If you've paid your hard earned and have gone out to organise a seat, I'd hate to sit there for a majority of the season, turn up late for reasons beyond your control and find you have lost your seat to some other member and subsequently have to sit in a place where you don't wish to sit. Most AFL clubs and the Storm (Rebels too have this I believe) have this in place and it works well from AFL and NRL members I have spoken to.
Agree with the mic - could hear the ground man quite clearly, but couldn't hear those talking to him, aside from one Australian women's player, who may have a career outside of the diamond if she so chooses!
I think there are a few issues they need to sort out - some will happen soon enough and others may not happen (but should).
Regardless - it's going to be enjoyable to watch games there. They have picked an excellent stadium and it's 90% right.

Haha from what I overheard a few of the girls really pelted but the mic was turned down. Sam Hamilton (the national player) really sealed the deal. Hm wonder if she's single...

Being one of the hardy soles that attended the three day, I dip my hat to all those that attempted to get the games underway.
Would like to see another row of containers at right field. At least that will cut down on a few of the cheap home runs. It would also add a new dimension as any ball hitting them would could deviate in any direction. It would add the unknown spark.
Original talk was of having a 30 ft extended fence height at the right field corner to compensate for the short 272 ft porch. The current 2 container height I' guessing would only be approx 16 ft.
Toilets on the top deck and food and drinks on the bottom deck makes life bloody difficult for the disabled with no way to access them than to traverse three level of steps. Could fix this by leaving enough space around the garden area that one could travel thru inside the temp fencing that surrounds it.
That said, look forward to the next 4 home stands.

I noticed a gap of about a meter between the foul pole and the right field fence. I think that a batter who can get the ball though the gap should get $10000 dollars.

Why can't the Aces do a sausage sizzle and some of the money go towards the junior state teams?

Why can't the Aces do a sausage sizzle and some of the money go towards the junior state teams? One would think the contract with the company that's selling food at the Showgrounds would have a clause excluding other vendors selling food. (Even if it is for a good cause). Berwick had a recent bbq fundraiser for their state reps a few weeks ago during a Thursday twilight game. I did my best to help them out by eating 4 or 5 hamburger! The families should be enquiring with local councils as some councils hand out ward funds to help their residents represent their state. Also this link is another option for the kids; online.ausport.gov.au/lsc/apply/individual.aspx

Most councils do have small grants available for kids in state teams...check your council's website.
It isn't really the ABL's job to fundraise for BV. But it would be a good way to get more people to the game. 6 state teams...60+ kids...set up in the car park for the hour or so before the game.
Incl parents, there's at least 100 added to the crowd. Plus those arriving early can have a snag in the carpark.
