Chardy - time to get rid of the celebrating Red Sox. It's old hat now.
Balls - are we getting a little too precious about the baseballs we use? As long a they are white and round then let's get on with it. I'm sure it will be down the priority list on BV's to do list as they have more concerns with the structuring the the divisions, junior numbers, etc.

If they did stay white and round it would be ok. Brown furry eggs suck to pitch with

I don't think we are getting precious at all given that we put up with it last year and this year it has continued and its time for it to stop. The balls aren't bad - THEY ARE TERRIBLE. As long as I am toeing the rubber then they will just keep getting tossed back.

How many new balls do the Burners start a home game with Chards?
I've seen too many clubs try and get away with 2-3 baseballs for senior games in which they should have 6 or more on the ready.

I would be guessing around 4? New ones are thrown in during the course of the game though. First game at our yard I threw a couple back and asked Stew Howell not to give them to me again, so we are using the same sh*tty balls ( =supplier ) as everyone ese.

Cam, just become a strike out pitcher and the balls won't get dirty The Wilson's changed late last year, they tell us it's the same ball but the marking's are different so I think the ball is. Seriously thought the ACCC can't get the fuel price down what hope do they have of knowing anything about balls? LC51

Blackburn have given me the opportunity to source another ball for our games, i've had a look around and looks like we might be giving this one (Diamond) a go. interestingly enough, we opened 2 dozen new balls last night for BP (Wilson A1010's) and after we had finished, the balls looked and felt like they were about 3 months old.

A few clubs used DIAMOND ACE brand balls a while ago. Not sure if they are the same as DIAMOND, but the Diamond ace was a better ball than the wilsons ("worst ball ever" )

Correct me if I'm wrong but the Diamond Ace balls had massive seams on them. They would rip your fingers to ribbons. I think the crux of the matter is if you want a good ball, you are going to have to pay a bit more money for them (Rawllings/Mizuno etc) The cheap balls will always go to cr&p in no time. Another little one to think about is the dirt used in the cutouts and around home plate. I always remember the balls being a fantastic shade of red when playing at Essendon. Blacky is a little of the same. Balls used at grounds round the sandbelt (Chelt/Sandy/Springy/Bonbeach etc) always lasted longer unless I was throwing... they'd last three pitches til a hanging slider was deposited into someone's back yard

Diamond Ace balls do have big seams and are a pretty good baseball.
These Diamond balls are from the US and I remember using them many, many moons ago when I was in College - they were good back then... I am pretty sure they still use them in High School and College baseball in the US.
I have a baseball on my desk right now, its a Wilson A1010 from a few years ago and I can tell you that looking at it closely, the leather was a LOT better from a few years ago.

I threw with Wilson balls on the weekend - pretty sure that is why I was touched up for 10 runs. Now after reading this thread, I wonder what would have happened if they had been Rawlings balls! :-)
As an aside - when batting, I feel as though the Mizunos and Rawlings balls actually come off the bat better than the crappier balls?

I agree that Rawlings and Mizuno do come off better, but they are also easier to throw. But that's the even playing field you look for. Pitcher has the chance to execute a pitch, but will be punished if he makes a mistake

I got plugged by a Wilson ball on Sunday and it still felt the same as it did 5 years ago. Also took a foul tip to the nuts and it made the same sound on my cup as 3-4 years ago

Did you have the same padding 5 years ago that you have now Jock Strap? Someone told me that the bruise that has come up looks a lot like chocolate milk underneath??

No doubt our rough fields don't do the balls any favors. The wilsons might be alright if the clubs could afford to throw 20 or 30 of them into the games but of course we cant do that. So we need a ball that can offer a balance of performance and durability.

I have spoken to a couple people about thse Easton baseballs and I am being led to believe they are a much better ball, so confident is this person that they are giving me a couple dozen to try out.
They did say the ball is just slightly bigger but I personally am happier than slightly bigger rather than the furry Wilson's.

So basically you would prefer to have Bigger balls rather than Furry balls....... I can see the logic in that.

Cam, why would Easton make a slightly bigger ball. The ball hasnt changed in size for years. Thats like putting the bases 95 feet apart or pitching from 64 feet. It doesnt make sense. If we wanted to play softball we would mate. One thing is likely... breaking balls are gonna snap better now. Tell me, are they still the same weight or are they heavier also, coz i like my repaired labrum the way it is..... in tact. Dont want to do that again! Let me know how they work out for ya and flip me one when i get back. I'm interested to see the difference.
