Hi All, time to get this forum going again.
COVID situation in Melbourne is not good, and will not be good for some time.
My crystal ball is saying return to competition in Dec/Jan.
My question to the Melbourne Baseball Fraternity...
What should we do to get back on the field ASAP?
Would you play in a mask?
Would you modify rules?

G'day rebel.
The Forum generated a veritable wealth of discussion over the years and is still out there lurking - though not in the same sense as COVID19!
In view of recent outbreaks, my own sense is that Victorian summer baseball has no chance of getting under way prior to Christmas.
Tough situation for clubs in a sport that has limited financial reserves and that is already shedding staff at state and national levels. If the sport is to survive into the future, the impetus may need to provided by grassroots clubs and their volunteer component. Let us hope that will happen.
Equally with the ABL, it is hard to imagine the competition being able to fire up any earlier than that, despite the confidence apparently expressed by a few owners. Whatever happens with ABL, I believe that Korea is unlikely to return, while travel restrictions will render it difficult for the league to go ahead anyhow.
On the optimistic side, should both Victorian club baseball and the ABL be able to go ahead at some point during 2020/21 summer, then we should see greater opportunities being provided for our younger players - which was a stated original aim of the league.
Playing in masks? Maybe. Why not?

Catchers, batters and home plate umpires are close enough to definitely need a mask. Left field not so much.... Baseball or any local sport seems a long time away.
