I am tired of banging on about this. Life is short and all of us have better things to do with our sporting involvement than dwelling on the negatives.
However, I remain totally dumbfounded by a state governing body that apparently takes so little pride in proper online communication with its members - its stakeholders - and even with the image that it portrays to the broader sporting community.
Pinching and re-posting stories from community newspapers as a substitute for paid BV staff writing original, timely and engaging material covering the spectrum of Victorian baseball is one thing. And that is bad enough, whether those stories are credited or not. It is lazy, sloppy and unprofessional.
But now we have added another dimension to the BV relationship with Star Weekly (which has thankfully been a longtime supporter of baseball). Now we appear to have become a de facto sales representative for Star Weekly photography! Refer to website GALLERY: Footscray vs Doncaster.
If there is a commercial arrangement in place between Star Weekly (or any other body) whereby the baseball community derives a benefit, then the clubs and the stakeholders should know about it. Is there? And do they?
Or is it simply a cosy informal arrangement whereby Star Weekly staff do Baseball Victoria's reporting and promotional work for them, in expectation of a potential commercial kickback?
Just what is going on here?
While I am happy to discuss this with any interested party, I really would urge our already very busy and stretched club administrators to raise these matters with Baseball Victoria and its paid staff in an effort - simply - to help the sport to aspire for better at a time when it is is obviously paddling.
