Well since no one else is going to do it.
Div 1
Melb to smash Chelt Moorabbin over Blackburn Waverley over Upway in a crucial game for both Fitzroy over Essendon Newport to beat Sandy in a ripper Sunshine to whip a so far disappointing Geelong outfit

Pending the result of the Cheltenham/Melbourne game, enrico, it seems that you have been well off the mark in regard to Division One results this week.
Two from six is a pretty shouse tipping effort (and we will not hold that against you), BUT.....
At least you are having a go, and your genuine interest in Victorian grassroots baseball has been noted.
By some, anyhow. Probably not by the governing body.
It is just as well that the Star and Leader newspapers are terrific supporters of club ball! Without pinching their material, at the moment, we would be fundamentally starved of decent journalistic input to our version of the sport.
We look forward to your input, enrico, for Round Six!

Wait....What? BV have a governing body? When did this happen?
Sheez only 2. Well apart from Moorabbin, Blackburn, it looked like some bloody cracking games went down.
Heard some more rumblings from umpires over the weekend. Apparently a meeting is happening this Wednesday night. Some heavies from BV to attend. Umpires dont trust BV is what im hearing.

My opinion of the umpires has been over the years somewhat unkind at times, but this crap coming out of BV is totally unbelievable beyond the realms of sanity. An hourly rate has been discussed, just plain stupid, there will be umpires lining up to do Div 3 as the games seem to go longer. Workcare should be the same as the players dumb and ridiculous Insurance( not worth a CFOCW)If the players have to pay for the worthless bit of paper the umpires should have the same right to laugh as well and join up. Don't get me wrong, some of the umpiring I have had to witness this year isn't flash and I am starting to think that I wasted my time going out to Altona on an ordinary Monday night to listen to some rules etc only to find that some of the rules being spoken to me don't even exist, even in fantasy land. Maybe more of the umpires should have attended and the Coachs/Managers could have stayed at home.. Now we are even. As always I will support the umpires in whatever decision they make this Wednesday and someone at BV better come prepared with a lot of commonsense(giggle).

Fair response Doubleplay. I dont know the ins and outs but the couple of umpires i have spoken to flat out dont trust BV and regardless of what BV say, the relationship has broken down. So if i was BV, id get there sh*t together real quick because watching a Div 1 game with club umpires will do the game extraordinary harm in this state.
In regards to the umpiring hasnt been to flash this year. Ive only watched Div 1 games thus far and i have no complaints there, but as i look across the umpire landscape and after talking to a couple, the ranks are very thin below Div 1. Current umps are getting older and slower and there are very few young guys or girls coming through. Dosent look good for the future if BV cant encourage a new crop. Personally i was going to give it a go until i found out the cost for a beginner. Courses and gear far to much $$$ for me.

All the BV has to do is look at the winter associations and see how thet pay the umpires. I know in the DBA it is COD at the end of the day. If BV keep up there attitude, there will be no umpires as they will be taxed and that will force some of the senior umpires(retired Gentlmen) to give it away because of the pension laws. There is absolutely no confidence in some of the areas of the BV people that run the show. The BVSL workers are trying hard under totally inadequate working conditions and you wonder why there is a massive turnover of staff every few years. It is obvious that the review was a great waste of our money as nothing came out of it except for a puppet being put in the chair.

Very well said Doubleplay. Agree with every word.
Justin Huber we respect what youve done in baseball but youve stepped up to the plate in what can only be described as a Rookie Level A game. Youve been talking it up big about your vision for BV for nothing but strike outs thus far. If you cant sort this 'At Bat' out then its fair to say, you need to be released along with the rest of the team in the BV dugout.

While on the subject of BV and their strange decision making. Does anyone know why the U18 Vic White side has been deleted? BV has made the decision but has given no explanation as to why. Surely we are better served to have as many boys as possible play in the Nationals?

The white side has probably been deleted as they probably considered none of the players were signable. That is all our glorious HP Manager looks for so his CV can be padded on the back of Club and Junior Coaches. This is fact as we were told this in a radio interview a couple of years ago. Winning National Titles isn't on the radar, just getting players signed.

Word was they wanted to strengthen the senior league charter and by dropping the white team they felt that would push kids in to that area. Unfortunately I think it was an idea with not as much research as required
