A view from Afar. That's a village near Ubud. Seems like an exciting and critical weekend for the MWBL with the top 4 in contest for top spot or at least next to top spot. In 2nd place Heathmont faces 3rd placed Watsonia at the Igloo/Icedome/Antarctic park/home ground and I would imagine that the Penguins do not like their recent number two status and will be wanting to get all blitzkrieg on Watsonia but the Saints are kinda liking the company that they're keeping and know that a loss puts them in danger of dropping out of the top 4 as they are only 1/2 a game ahead of GMBC and only ahead of Ringwood on percentage. Separated by one win this game could be key in the run to the finals for both teams. I'm now listening to The Baseball Show on RPP FM so I'll leave my commentary. They are much better at it.

I know it's only money but has The Baseball Show thought of a live radio broadcast from winter baseball finals games?
That would be awesome.

My dear friend perfeckt. We are looking at doing a live broadcast on the 17th July from Dingley for the A grade game. Unfortunately footy finals on the Pennisula restricts any chance of doing a final but we can hope. I am very happy that you enjoy our one hour banter . Next week we have ASH BLAIR on live in the studio. Thank you for being a loyal supporter of our product. Boofa

In the land of the DBA the results went as expected. Dandenong got up over Mornington 5 to 2, Frankston responded to a shocker last week to top Cheltenham 15 to 5 and in the last A Grade game Berwick continued there resurgence by dining out on Pakenham to the tune of 11 to 1. In B Grade, Frankston got up 4 to 3 in a ripping contest, Boneo just prevailed in a nail biter against Dingley 10 to 9 and one can only assume that Cheltenham forfieted to Dandenong. All in all a good round of Baseball played in dry conditions. Bring on next week.

Guild has regained top placing on the GBA A Grade ladder double-header success against Werribee - 8-0 in the day game and 11-1 in the nightcap. Deakin edged out Mounties 2-1 and Saints recovered from a deficit to motor away from Lara 9-2, while Bellarine had the bye. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

MWBL News. Round 12.
NEWS FLASH.........LADDER LEADERS STUNG BY CELLAR DWELLERS AND KNOXED OUT OF TOP SPOT! Knox won their first game of the season today by defeating top placed Nth. Balwyn. The Stingers may have been resting a few players with what they may have considered an easy win but if that's the case then I'm sure they are ruing that decision. True, that still leaves them in 2nd place by only 1/2 a game but they have had a taste of the top spot (for 1 week) and they will want that taste again no doubt. Pity their opponents next week. 2-1 to Knox. Bravo.
Heathmont won on home soil to defeat 4th placed Watsonia and regain #1 status in the MWBL. Watsonia would not have been considered easy beats particularly after Heathmonts 2 straight losses, a rain-out and a narrow win over 9th. placed Forest Hill. Penguins got their mojo back??? They also like the top of the ladder and will look to gain more of a point spread over the field next week. 7-3 to Heathmont.
Defending League Champions Research were soundly beaten by tough guys GMBC. I can not even guess why the Roadrunners are having such a patchy year, especially after handing the 3peat Penguins their 2nd loss for the season only last week. Even after a solid win, 3rd placed GMBC are still 2 wins shy of heading up the competition but are certain to solidify their deserved placing in the top 4 next week. Wait......did I say certain? Let me re-phrase that. They will certainly be trying to solidify their placing in the top 4. Watsonia will be gunning for them to swap places. 8-2 to GMBC.
Swapping places. This is where it gets really interesting. 3rd place to 7th place are separated by only 1 point.
Essendon have found some form and won their third game on the trot over a Ringwood side that just 2 weeks ago beat the then undefeated Heathmont squad and as are the Saints, just a game away from cracking a spot in the finals. 3-2 to Essendon.
Greensborough duked it out with Forest Hill down at the lower end of the ladder with the Burra boys clipping the wings of the Eagles. It was Greensborough's first win since a Round 7 win over Watsonia and they are now sitting in 8th position. It will now take an extraordinary effort from the Burras to gain a finals berth from their 9 points but it is still only 2 and a 1/2 wins away, depending on other losses of course. Forest hill are now ahead of this weeks upset team from Knox by 1 and 1/2 games in the battle for the bottom. 10-7 to Greensborough.
With only 5 games to go in the home and away season things are about to heat up for the Melbourne Baseball Winter League. At least to above freezing.
Next week.........
Greensborough v. Knox.... Hmmmm. Heathmont v. Nth. Balwyn.... HmMMMM. Ringwood v. Forest Hill....HmmmM. Watsonia v. GMBC....HMMMm. Research v. Essendon....HmMmM.

In A grade, the Penguins beat Watsonia 7 to 3. Wilson and Harris both pitched great. Leslie and Davidson both hit home runs. A Res was won by the Penguins 2 to 1.
