oooh. How many assistants at Boeing Reserve this year mate. If there's one thing the forum rumour mill has taught me it's that the Bombers now have; Pitching coach Infield Coach Hitting Coach Catching Coach Linguistics Coach Bench Coach Scoring Coach Chipping Coach and Putting Coach.
But the only one taking the field is the head coach.

This one is a blast from the past.
It originated from August 2008.
Interesting to have a look back over times gone by.

Ballarat or Geelong to Melbourne (anywhere in) is a quick half-hour jaunt down the road. Melbourne to Geelong or Ballarat is a four-hour odyssey requiring a provisions caravan and a mechanical checkup halfway.

The benefits on living on the west side of town makes a trip to Geelong or Ballarat just a short jaunt. In fact, getting to Geelong is a hell of a lot quicker than getting to several clubs on the southern side of town. Regardless of things, happy to travel anywhere we get fixtured. The only caveat on things is that this does not apply to midweek games at home grounds. The idea of 6pm midweek starts is ridiculous.

Indeed, Goblin, and I've never heard any complaints from Essendon people or others in the west, they tend to come from closer to the "epicentre of Victorian baseball". Maybe crossing the West Gate really is a big deal to some people, it's more the lack of awareness of the reciprocity aspect, and in some cases, that the one long trip is roughly equivalent to several that the opposing club will make that season.

"What The Aussie Baseball Forum Has Taught me."
Quite a lot, as it turns out.
I have learned that I can have a voice in the Baseball community. A voice that I choose to keep anonymous. Not to protect my ego but in an attempt to not unduly embarrass playing progeny. A voice that can be cynical, a voice asking for answers, a voice of praise, exasperation, satire, criticism, camaraderie. And an ear for knowledge, perceptions and acceptance of others, what the most current scores and standings are. Ears that bleed when I have overstepped, understated or mis-communicated my thoughts, mis-understood those of others and copped, at times, a deserved shellacking. I have learned of rulings that had previously mystified me I have learned that umpiring is a freakin' difficult but essential job. I have learned of significant names from our baseball past and present and the achievements of players, volunteers and dynasties. I have learned some of the vagaries of social media and how a topic, without face to face dialogue, can go south very quickly because of a sentence written. I have learned that it can be fun and that there are a lot of funny, intelligent and passionate baseball folk out there. Some I know, some I have met and some I never will. I have learned to be more accepting, understanding and less critical, thanks to this Forum.
If governing bodies were less sensitive to criticism, constructive or otherwise and there-by less censorial, then maybe there would not be a need for a forum such as this. Unless of course forums such as this one were embraced and encouraged rather than shunned.
Yep....I've learned quite a lot.
