While it is still very early days, there appear to have been some significant movements around summer clubs.
For example, John Peterson did a magnificent job to help guide Fitzroy Lions back to Division One, though it seems the Tom Toms might have sounded on his departure from the top job......

I didn't see much B Grade this summer but plenty of A Grade. There appears to be a big step to be competitive in A Grade compared to B Grade. Personally I'd be disappointed to be part of getting a team to A Grade to have someone 5% better than me be recruited to take my spot. JP has done well with the cattle he has albeit the import was a great addition. I hope Fitzroy can stay up for a while without overly throwing the baby out with the bath water. Recruiting can be a culture killer...

5% better farnt? ? I think a team leader in a 5 Div 1 premiership team is a bit more than that. It is one of the great recruiting moves. Maybe JP realised the step up to Div 1 is huge and they need outside hel? Could not expect a club that finished 3rd in Div 2 to compete in Div 1 with the same list. They must improve their list and they will.

Of course he is. I was noting more the ten or so players across the firsts for the club - how many of them will be replaced by someone 5% better. Having a great recruit who is more than 5% better is a starting point, but how many do you need to get to stay competitive after finishing 3rd in the H&A season? Looking at the Top 10 stats for Div 2 there aren't many Fitzroy highlightsWho benefits if you have stalwarts or club loyal players who are thanked for their contribution, then they are replaced by a 5% better player. It is a challenge.

I stand to be corrected, but as JP is staying on as an assistant I think he may have stood down. Getting Tommy D as club coach is a great appointment! Having been at Fitzroy myself I can tell you the "cultute" of the club is incredibly strong and appointing Tom will only add to that.
When I was went there it was with a big influx of new recruits (mainly Coburg players) and as part of the coaching staff I can tell you everyone at the club welcomed us and made us feel very much at home.
