Just out of curiosity, I would love to hear some opinions from anyone on the forum who was in attendance at the BV Awards night last Friday.
How did you think the night worked in comparison to previous years? Did you think it was a success?

Hi everyone, I'm a relatively new person to baseball (started 2 years ago) and the baseball community. I'm passionate about growing my club (Chelsea), am on the committee, and want to grow the game in the local area.
For the presentation night I went alone as no one else from my club could make it (we had a come and try night on), and I was pretty disappointed with the value for money from the night.
For the $300 our club spent (not a small amount of money for our club), I received 5 pieces of food, and had 2 beers. I was able to chat to a few people from other clubs which was eye opening and I enjoyed the networking side of it.
It was disappointing to see the General Manager standing on the opposite side of the room and not engaging with the people around the room. Being a Division 3 club at the moment we don't get a whole lot of love, even though we've had significant growth in numbers at the club in the last 2 years. I mention that as I was hoping that by going to the night there would be a chance to chat to some BV staff and develop a better relationship - others may have had more luck than I on that front.
I was also disappointed that Justin Huber wasn't able to make an appearance for the Melbourne Aces part of the night (as far as I was aware). He may have had an emergency to get to so I don't want to push too hard on that point.
Overall I was disappointed - the main issue being the value for money.
I know a few guys from Pakenham who showed up with 15 minutes to go before we had to sit down, which wouldn't have been enough time to eat or drink much at all. Considering how far some people had to travel on a Friday night, a 45 minute window for food and drink was a bit too short.

I thought it was hard to find people from other clubs to have a chat to where as with the old format with clubs sitting at tables was a lot easier.
I also found once the back part started to fill up it was hard to get something to eat and drink.
I just wonder how long it will be before BV are going to really acknowledge that the league is made up of more than 1 division.

Good to get some opinions from other clubs. I found it a little strange that no one had commented previously.
We had 7 people in attendance from our club, and overall, we were pretty disappointed with the event.
We all had 2 - 3 pieces of finger food (party pies and sausage rolls) and no one could get more than 2 beers. I was quite surprised at 9.45pm when I went to the bar and was told I had to buy my own beer. Especially considering half the evening was spent with the bar closed during presentations.
It took us quite a long time to get there (we are all from the South Easter suburbs), but we understand that there is never going to be a venue to suit every club. In saying that, $75 per person for what we got wasn't good enough, and we would never provide that type of event for our own club members.
Might have been good to try and change it up with the format, but it clearly didn't work. Over priced, and for $75 and only 2 - 3 beers each, a 2 course meal should be provided.
Also, part of a night like that is no doubt networking with other clubs....but a lot of it is about club's celebrating their season. Sitting at a table with your fellow club members works better I think - and still provides the chance for you to mingle with other clubs during the night anyway.

First time I've been so I can't compare it to other years but...
I thought the presentation part of the night was great, mc was entertaining and all grades covered evenly.
For the rest, pretty poor. Bar staff were really rude. Food was gone by the time it got to where we were standing everytime and at 9.30 I was told my beer was $7. For $75 I had 2 sausage rolls, 2 beers and spent 2.5 hours in the car. And I won't have anything to compare it to ever again because I won't be back.

I am very certain that the DBA, MWBL and any other Association would definately put on a better show and for less. Even the Vic Masters put on a better valued show for less than $50.00 entry fee per person and it goes for three days. Top that BV.

Similar feedback from the wolves crew that were in attendance.
sounds like only a small % of the $75 per head went towards the night.
Either the venue took advantage of BV or the money from pres night is subsidizing something else.
bit of a shame considering last years event was probably the best of the last few.
