Sandy 3-2 over Doncaster in the early game at Altona. Good to see Brandon Stenhouse have his first throw on Aussie soil in 2 years. Really enjoyed the $7 mini can of Coors beer.

Orioles re-paid the favour and put Geelong on the backburner in their mid weeker. 3-0.

Cheltenham V. Sunshine game called off by umpires due to a failure of a bank of lights? Bugger. "I'm walkin' on sunshine," Is that a draw or an upcoming double-header?

Springvale Lions got all MGM on Newport. 14-1.
Pirates shaded the Reds, 4-1.
Gotta feel for Sunshine, only 12 games out of a possible 14 but if you look at the cellar dwellers 3 wins you will see Geelong, Blackburn and Newport as their scalps. Amongst their losses are one run game differences with Essendon and Blackburn. 2 games not played, one with Springvale and one with Cheltenham. Technically Doncaster Dragons may be considered the cellar dwellers but they have had the opportunity of one more game played.
Every game counts.

The Demons got the points over the Bomber 6-4 in the 6pm game @ Melbourne.
For the Demons Andy Mann was on the bump and Luke Abels for the Bombers.
It was a surprise to see Mann on the bump again after doing the same on Sunday. Throwing on 2 days rest in mid season could be telling on his arm come finals time.
The Bombers got on board in the top of the 1st when they posted a 2 spot after new recruit Masato Fukae lead off the game with a single.
In the top of the 4th Peter Stokes hit a tracer bullet over dead left to pick up the Bombers 3rd. They soon posted a 4th after a ground ball scored Tim Sullivan after he had a standup double.
The Demons started their comeback in the bottom of the 4th when Matty Kent hit a no doubter over regulation right field to bring the score back to 4-1.
Whilst the Demons were able retire the Bomber over the final two inns the same could not be said of the Bombers.
Thanks to a series of uncharacteristic errors by the Bombers the Demons managed to plate 2 runs in the 5th and 3 runs in the last inns to run out winners.
In doing so they split the series 1 apeiece

Good report Goblin - thanks. It's amazing what the "short game" can produce (pressure), as was the case in this game, pity it isn't used more often. In all fairness, Essendon's initial 2 runs in the first inning on Wednesday night were also scored on uncharacteristic errors by Melbourne's infield. Much the same can be said about the game on Sunday too, when Melbourne made multiple errors in the infield and outfield that yielded multiple unearned runs for the Bombers as well. So yes, the ledger has been squared between two very good teams.

Took a wander down the Bluejay nest and was treated to a game that unravelled in one innings. The young Berwick side came out all guns blazing in the second to land a six spot to take an early lead. From there on it was BonBeach that mounted a counter offensive inching away with a couple of runs in the fifth and seventh while allowing Berwick a couple of runs. With the score locked at 8 to 4 Bonbeach came back again in the ninth to plate three runs with the tying run at third when the last out was made. Mark Surtees gave Berwick a solid start to get the win. Jon Ballantyne and Ben Donald pitched well to limit the early onslaught only giving up two runs in the last seven innings. The only disappointment for the day was the mystery strike zone and some very dubious calls made by the line umpire for the day. After the second innings it was a very entertaining game.

The rebel alliance continues to roll. Missing plenty of experience, the grubs were concerned heading to stkilda....but a 12-0 win in 7 says that things are still going well at rebel hq! Mid weeker at home Wednesday hopefully another w comes our way! Great job by the brains trust down there, let's continue this into festivus!
