As a game day manager of a division 1 team, I have really not had a problem with the quality of umpiring this year. Is there an occasional mistake? Of course but no player is perfect either.
I would actually go as far to say that a couple of the better umpires getting round don't umpire, and have no intention of umpiring in the ABL.
Another layer of this is the development of umpires. The likes of Dunny, SOD, Greg, Stuy et al already do a great job week in week out. For others to develop, they need to be exposed to a higher level of the game so they develop in parallel with the players. It really important that baseball gets the balance of this right.
Lastly, in a lot of respects, division 2 is much more difficult to umpire than division 1 as players in the higher grades higher skill means less inconsistently in the way the game is played

mc15, I agree with you 100% Parkman's superficial knowledge of umpire numbers in this State shows that he is ill-equiped to pass judgment on the umpires' director. Perhaps, rather than slagging off anonymously, he should have a talk to the director. It might enlighten him.

Oh, he appears to have left the building (of his own volition, mind you). Must be off writing his next feature story.

And now the game can proceed without hindrance and the milb can now have his full attention to fiction.

I believe the umpires that did our game today did a great job. Young maso was a pro and it was good for the top of the clash to have a couple of very capable umps! Big cheers bv!
