One thousand, eight hundred and thirty six baseball players will take the field in Victoria during the next 7 days.
That only covers the Senior Men's, Women's, Masters, State/Metro 18's and 16's players and not the coaches, managers, scorers, grounds-people, canteen workers and supporters.
Then there are the Juniour's and T-ballers and their vast retinue.
At least one hundred and eighteen of those folk will compete in the Premier class of the VSBL Snr. Men's division.
The last 5 days have thrown up some results that point toward a very close competition.
The first obvious one would be middle ranked teams Chelt' Rustlers and Sandy Royals. One apiece by one run for each of their home wins.
Maybe less obvious would be 2nd bottom placed Doncaster Dragons defeating 3rd placed Essendon in Round 10 and keeping the Bombers win-less with a Round 11 draw.
Blackburn took a 1 run lead in their first game with Newport but went down 4-0 in their second encounter with the 5th. placed Rams.
Waverley blanked the second fiddle Baycats in Round 11 returning the favour after Geelong blanked the Wildcats in their previous encounter.
Preston Pirates beat cellar dwellers Springvale Lions by only one point and then lost to the Lions 7-2.
In fact the only clear cut winner from the last two rounds is the Demons who took game 2 against Sunshine 9-4 and a 12-2 lesson in game 1.
Round 12 and this week every club has a new dance partner, never even been introduced so far this season. A dance partner that could step on their toes, a new partner that might unexpectedly take the lead, a new partner that might send them home thinking of the 'what if's' and to go home for a well earned rest with no mid-week games.
That's if they want to rest and not practice their dance moves.
Doncaster v. Geelong......Cats win.
Sandringham v. Blackburn......Burners win.
Waverley v. Essendon....? Bomb squad maybe.
Cheltenham v. Newport.....Newport.
Melbourne v. Preston.....Demons.
Springvale v. Sunshine......Lions.
Every game counts.
