Some individuals at some clubs are already doing this when they post or tweet to their clubs Facebook page.
You are 100% right '2xplay' when you say "clubs will have to do it for themselves".
A modern strategy may involve starting a personal FB page purely for baseball and then 'friending' other clubs. It may be a bit of a clumsy way of staying up to date but with alerts, filtering etc. it could be a worthwhile option to explore.
To be fair to VSBL, their reporting of games although still as dry as toast, has been getting better and more timely in the delivery.
This week they had weekly wraps across 5 divisions by tuesday and wednesday. Women's, 3xmen's and a Jnr. Charter. Their scoreboard updating also improved this week with mid-week games being updated to the scoring page the very night the games were played.
While this shouldn't be seen as something remarkable it is a very positive step in the right direction.
One report of note was from the first game of the local derby week between Chelt' and Sandy.
The report was attributed with,
"Original report supplied by Geoff Francis." That original report was posted by Geoff on the Royals FB page and their webpage and because it wasn't a cut and paste copy it means that the VSBL took advantage of a very pro-active club (I suspect that Sandy offered up the report to VSBL) in the modern media communication stakes and that should be encouraged.
BV also have on the front page of their website a 'top tweets' box where you can get current updates from across the league when pro-active club members tweet info.
In the last five days there has been about 169 games of competition baseball played that were administered by Baseball Victoria (not counting Aces games), 24 of which were played by VSBL Senior Men's Division 1 First's teams alone.
Every single day there is a baseball game being played somewhere in Victoria.
"Johnny went Yard!", "Mary and Joan combine for classic double play!", "Wilbur makes 2nd base in 48 seconds flat in the Crusty Demons division!".
If BV can access club reporting like these examples from clubs and marry them with box scores it will be better all round but it must start with the clubs and be maintained.
I may be stating the obvious from a glass half full (of Bintang) and this year I have the luxury of time to accommodate my ramblings but there has never in history been more access to communication platforms available to individual clubs and admin's to sell their message thereby adding value to sponsors, creating 'click' or 'viewed' figures to attract potential sponsors, not to mention creating a buzz around our own clubs.
169 games in just 5 days. Worth thinking about?
Sh!t....I just realised my Bintang's only half full. Phuc Dat, I better do something about it.
