Is it correct that Victoria looks likely not to field a woman's team at the national championship in January. Lack of a coach until recently and lack of players interested,10 or 12 at a recent trial?
For all the awards given out for the development of woman's baseball, it seems to have stalled with the core group now ageing and very few juniors coming thru.

Infielddancer...the Victorian Team has been selected, so I was told by a couple of players at my club who trialled and were selected.
They have a full team and players were cut from the trial (meaning they had more than required turn up).

is it true that 2 imports have been selected ahead of local players. If so how does this work in prompting baseball in Victoria.

Not sure Pirates, I haven't seen the full team list yet. I know one definitely was selected - she plays at my club. Not sure about a second.
My opinion would be that it is a National Championship Tournament. If the local players are better, then they should be selected. If they are not, then they shouldn't be. The imports are registered players who are assisting our current competition and paying to play baseball. They are also choosing to fork out $2,500 to play at the tournament.
Players going to Nationals isn't about promoting women's baseball in Victoria. It should be the work done at grassroots/club level that provides the promotion/growth of women's baseball (and other forms of the game). Nationals is the biggest stage for the best players. It is for the elite players, not just those who turn up to trial.
The opportunity to wear the Big V uniform shouldn't be handed out to people just because they are from Victoria. It should be an honour and a privilege that people earn through their ability to play the game.
The depth in Victoria isn't great, and although I am not 100% sure who trialled/didn't trial, I would have a rough guess and say that if there are a couple of imports assisting, it will ensure Victoria are competitive in the tournament versus taking fringe players just for the sake of it.
If BV provided some assistance at grassroots level for female development, there would be enough players for two teams (Blue and White) and then the players who were cut could go as a 'development player' in the second team. Without 2 teams, it will always be tough for the players who are on the fringe to compete in a Nationals like tournament.

The imports are registered players who are assisting our current competition and paying to play baseball. They are also choosing to fork out $2,500 to play at the tournament. Irrelevant, select the best local players and get better as a state group. paying fees is what you are supposed to do you're not doing anything special. Players going to Nationals isn't about promoting women's baseball in Victoria. It should be the work done at grassroots/club level that provides the promotion/growth of women's baseball (and other forms of the game). Nationals is the biggest stage for the best players. It is for the elite players, not just those who turn up to trial. it is helping promote Victorian baseball as it shows young players a pathway to a higher level of representive baseball. It is the highest level of baseball as you say so how can't it be a great promotion of baseball in all states. The opportunity to wear the Big V uniform shouldn't be handed out to people just because they are from Victoria. It should be an honour and a privilege that people earn through their ability to play the game. So your thinking would be to bring in as many import players as possible, whole team, to be successful at the Australian nationals. I think all players feel honoured to be selected to represent thier state. The depth in Victoria isn't great, and although I am not 100% sure who trialled/didn't trial, I would have a rough guess and say that if there are a couple of imports assisting, it will ensure Victoria are competitive in the tournament versus taking fringe players just for the sake of it. Select the best local players because that is what it's suppose to be and train and help everyone get better, that is normally what any team does at any level. If BV provided some assistance at grassroots level for female development, there would be enough players for two teams (Blue and White) and then the players who were cut could go as a 'development player' in the second team. Without 2 teams, it will always be tough for the players who are on the fringe to compete in a Nationals like tournament. Who made this decision has it been approved by baseball Victoria.

Pirates...i disagree with pretty much everything you've said. Let's agree to disagree.
As for a team of imports...no, that would be ridiculous and I never suggested that. I simply suggested that registered imports who are members of the Baseball Victoria women's competition should have the right to trial.
If the rules are the same as when I coached Victoria a few years back, there is actually a 2 x import limit per state team. Which is a good idea.

It's not good for the development of the sport if they're keeping local talent from experiencing a national carnival! If winning is more important than actually trying to develope the talent then there's only a finite future for the women's game. Melbourne are suffering from a vacuum of talent being developed and are relying on players that, if playing men's baseball, would be encouraged to let the younger kids play! But there aren't enough younger girls coming thru, so they have to keep playing! All for development, and building a strong womens comp, but to send representatives that don't actually represent the state, rather themselves, is pretty narrow minded....but that's nothing new with bv!

I probably shouldn't comment any further, I have nothing to do with the Victorian Women's program so i'm likely speaking out of school al little.
But, from prior knowledge of women's baseball in Victoria, there are no 'local talent' missing out Wyatt. The players in Victoria are ageing and development is not really happening.
I am looking forward to playing in the Women's Masters competition though. Pretty sure it will be in action very soon!

Maybe I wasn't completely fair on the women's game. I actually think it's a massive problem across victoria, male or female.

No offence meant to pirates or wyatt33 but I'd prefer to hear more thoughts about the subject of women's baseball from women. So wearnie52 that means that I disagree with you because you are lone voice for women in baseball and therefore it's a voice that needs listening to. If more women could be convinced to also contribute then some momentum could build for women to control how women's baseball is administered. I see that yesterday Baseball Victoria announced the appointment of Bronwyn Gell as Participation & Women's Program Officer which is a positive step. Let's just hope Bronwyn is not stifled by a lack of funds available to her and that she can act as a lightning rod for other women involved with baseball in Victoria. Congratulations and good luck Bronwyn.

Doubtful on the future because there is no pathway. Girls coming thru early age group juniors then out of the game as we get to U14s. Perfect chance now with the Charters to have LL teams, or at least push for them as the pathway to JL then senior baseball. Apparently this is on the cards but yet to see any communication. 8 of our kids gone to another sport.

Agreed Perfeckt (and Wyatt). I look forward to hearing from other women playing this great sport.
And yes, getting Bron on board is a fantastic initiative. I really hope she is provided support and some resources from BV. If so, here's hoping that there is a future for girls and women playing baseball.

The direction of the Cheltenham Rustlers Women's team is on the UP! Having won their first game last weekend must be a thrilling feeling and having tasted how it feels as a team to win can only provide them with a desire to do it again. Congrat's and go get 'em.

Terrific news to see that Chelt have a women's team back on the field. Seems like a lifetime ago when the club lasted fielded a pretty decent team in Div 1.
