G'day melbourneacesofficial welcome to the forum and thanx for your input. After early support (I am a foundation member) of the Aces and by extension the ABL, I was also an early casualty due to the lack of a variety of shortcomings of the ABL and the Aces club. None of which had anything to do with the playing and coaching staff. After several years of not being a paid up member of the Aces, I am looking at being one for the next season in an attempt to help make sure it's not its last. Major League International, State and Federal governments, BV and the ABF, all made significant commitments to a challenging undertaking and that should be applauded. The treatment of Aces supporters however, cannot. The record of complaint from people who would like nothing more than to see the league succeed is also significant, with many of those complainants being continued 'paid up and passionate', more so than me. Fool me once, shame on you. Fool me twice, shame on me.

p.s., Please don't ask me to call the front office or e-mail my concerns or make contact. That strategy of being pro-active and making contact in the past was met with an absolute silence.

The cynic in me can't help suggest the reason is because Aces management are still trying to work out a way to charge people for a crappy UStream feed. *tongue only partially in cheek*

Hats off to MLBi, the ABF and their partners who have gotten this off the ground. It would have required a massive financial commitment from both private and public sectors which would have been no mean feet to complete. Shame it could not have been in Melbourne. There is a little tension between the two clubs right now too. Video below is from yesterday's game. mlb.mlb.com/news/article.jsp?ymd=20130612&content_id=50380800&vkey=news_mlb&c_id=mlb

Great to see the MLB coming to Australia.
Tickets go on sale on the 19th of this month but there will be a pre sale for ABL club members who will get the first option for tickets and if you are not a member yet you can still get a membership before the pre sale finishes.
Pre sale will be until Tuesday so get in quick..

Indeed Klattsy - most prompt. I do understand it doesn't get to all members though. One of our forum guru's for example I don't believe is receiving them, and I think he knows a bit about emails.
For everyone who hasn't seen it:
A word from Windsor
The word you've been waiting for...
Yes, it’s true. In a world first, Sydney will play host to the opening series of next year's MLB season next March, with a two-game series to be played between the Los Angeles Dodgers and the Arizona Diamondbacks at the Sydney Cricket Ground.
The games will be held on the weekend of 22 and 23 March 2014.
It’s the first time a competitive US baseball fixture will have been held in Australia, and the event will see the SCG transformed into an MLB stadium with the construction of an infield clay area, pitcher's mound, dugouts and an additional grandstand.
Not only will the event showcase professional baseball to a new audience, it will also be broadcast to an estimated global TV household audience of up to 168 million, including 75 million in the US.
Here’s your chance to secure pre-sale tickets to this once-in-a-lifetime event!
Current 2013/14 Melbourne Aces members will have exclusive pre-sale access to ticketing from Friday 14 June at 12.00pm. You’ll receive an email on Friday morning that contains the link to the Ticketek URL.
If you haven’t yet purchased your season membership, jump online right away or give us call on (03) 8360 9371, 0497 936 345 or 0497 936 069.
If you’re not able to purchase your season membership just yet, don’t worry – we’ve got you covered. Simply place a $25 deposit towards your membership and you’ll be eligible to purchase pre-sale tickets. You’ll need to call us if you’re planning to secure your membership with a deposit only – you can’t do this online.
Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Wednesday 19 June at 9.00am.

Hey the MLB games sound great. Pity it wasn't at Melbourne but hey as we all know that Sydney is the center of the southern universe and the focal point of the ABL. Apart from that lets hope that this doesn't act as yet another distraction from whats important to all Aces fans, namely the improvement of the team, helping to establish the club with a survivable future and a force within the ABL. All yet to be achieved IMHO. Bucket List for 2013-14(1) Finish better than .500 for first time in history of the ABL. (2) Free Video Streaming of home games for interstate fans and country fans. (3) Pushing the brand out there, interstate and locally. Cheers Neil W

Why would the front office be putting the ticket information out to members at the same time as the tickets go on sale?
I'm aware of pre-sales and how they work. I've never heard of information NOT being sent out in advance of the tickets being made available for purchase.
Further, does the front office have every members email details?

As an update, it seems many Melbourne Aces members are still waiting.
Adelaide Bite members have theirs - why not us?
Question for the Aces - who in the front office is going to stand up and take responsibility for this fiasco? As noted earlier this week 'technical issues' is an excuse that has worn thin.

My email arrived at 1.20. Another member I know, 1.40. Reading elsewhere, a member that signed up this morning got theirs a couple of minutes after midday....and will probably win the Top20 award for the day!

Shame how this all went down. I'd expect infrastructure was not set up to cope with demand. Kinda weird how Ticketek negated any advantage club members have by giving out the password upon registration as well. I hope the clubs vent their frustration about this.

ok I have been trying to purchase tickets all afternoon, this by the way is not Windsors or the Aces fault, but the system does not allow you to buy seats where you want to sit it throws you up the back of the stands on the opposite side of the ground. no detail of rows and seats positions just best available is not correct if we are the first to buy tickets.....not happy.

Gooday Guys. No e-mail to me either, which is strange as I have also received email from the ABL just recently. They must have multiple data bases for things such as newsletters , ticketing etc. Quite messy if true. I also won't be wasting my money going to Sin City. No matter how well done it will be to me Sinney has the appeal and atmosphere of dog droppings. Neil W

A new news letter out from the Aces Today is good work. Its is good to see them keeping their fans up to speed with whats going on. Also next seasons game starting times is within the newsletter.
Very glad to see that we have kept the Christmas game like last year. This year its against Sydney on 20th through 22nd December. Always felt that this could become a league tradition rather than holding a series on new years eve when everyone has many more choices of things to do.

It is indeed a shot in the arm that we're receiving weekly newsletters now, and may they continue. I do note however that on June 6th, it was noted that game times would be released on June 13. It took until June 20. By June 6th however, the Adelaide Bite had sent mail correspondence to their members thanking them for their patronage and announcing the game times for Coopers Stadium.
A question for Aces front office however. What is the idea behind making the Saturday double headers 2.05 and 5.05 starts, and can you please post some of the feedback members must have given you to support this change? Was any liaison with BV undertaken to check just what sort of numbers of baseballers would be disadvantaged by playing Aces games at these times? These times disqualify womens baseballers from attending game one and in cases where womens clubs play double headers, the players in the late game must forfeit any opportunity they would otherwise to attend MBP at all.
Last year, it was a hassle for some to turn up, now, they may as well just stay at home, with the Aces having given them a solid showing of just what their patronage means to the club.

Stu, I don't think they care about the local leagues, they program games whenever they want not showing any concern for people that are playing at those times. It seems they are happy to lose support from the biggest fan base they have, people involved in the game.
I would guess it is an issue everywhere too, it certainly happens in Adelaide as well.

To be fair Journeyman, I do recognise and respect the need for Sunday games.
Last season, the Aces had Sunday crowds of 296, 407, 270, 621 and 1144 ('fan appreciation day'..............................sorry, I've stopped chuckling now). Should there be rain outs earlier in the series, the Sunday is required in order to try fit as much into the weekends series as possible.
But on a Saturday, it honestly looks like the front office has sat down and worked out how it can effectively ensure it disqualifies a section of people from coming to the games and worked its schedule accordingly.

I'd have to go back and check what times the first leg of the double headers started last season (3.05ish perhaps...from memory), but that allowed those playing at 1pm to at worst catch the back end of the game one and be there for game two. Players in 3.30 games could always see the nightcap.
These timings allow for those in early matches to see one game only at best. At this stage, I'd like to see from the Aces where all the member feedback that is that suggested Saturday games started too late and they should be brought forward.
Actually, I remember getting a survey form after year two, and not year three...so how they came up with this wizard wheeze is worth an explanation.
I don't see what was wrong with 3.05/6.05 starts...except when it's bright sunshine and you decide to set off fire works.

Larry, you'll appreciate I didn't go around the stadium with a counter on Saturday's last season counting women's players on the theory that management would change starting times next season to exclude them from turning up and watching the ABL.
I can tell you however that I had several Division One womens players sit in and around the area I sat in last season. Again, my apologies for not recording the dates they attended.

We're all good Larry. Sadly, it isn't even the most perplexing issue with the draw, which I cannot believe no one else has commented on.
Thursday January 2nd. 1.05pm start at MBP versus Perth.
Why on earth when you're trying to maximise crowds are you playing a game at 1.05pm on a Thursday? January 2nd in 2014 isn't a public holiday in Melbourne.
I know several people organising their holidays around interstate trips to watch the team this year. They should have been more concerned with getting time off from work to watch home dates.
The Melbourne Ice and Melbourne Mustangs in the AIHL play on Thursday's some times...at night! Do the AFL play Thursday lunchtime games? NRL? A-League? Super Rugby? Big Bash League?
So we're asking those players who have the temerity to supplement their ABL wage with a second job to take an extra day off when the game could otherwise be played at 7.35? How was we maximising our chances of success and crowd figures by playing a Thursday game at 1.05pm?
It gets slightly less stupid the following day when on a Friday night (again, not a public holiday) we have a 5.05pm start. We must have some issues with paying the electricity bill at MBP if we're trying to get everything in before natural light becomes scarce.
Aces Official, an explanation if you please.
