And why is it hard for the Aces to find volunteers? Teams such as the Melbourne Ice in the AIHL seem to have them - why not the Aces?

I agree Stuart. I actually put together a proposal so will be interesting to see what comes of that. Perth seem to be streets ahead off field ATM.

Answer? I agree.
I must have missed something there, my apologies.

I agree that it shouldn't be hard to find some is what I meant. You seem to have a firm view on it so why don't you tell me?

Provide a view? I’m not sure I need to, especially given you’ve already completed a proposal. I’m sure you’ll have completed your due diligence by going back and investigating the issues that have seen the off field situation fall to this level.
Did you also put together a proposal on how to re-establish the Goodwill that has been lost as well?

Did you also put together a proposal on how to re-establish the Goodwill that has been lost as well? I was talking about the Social Media Side of things, I actually have no idea of the past or why as you say the off field situation has fallen to a level that is unacceptable so maybe you could enlighten us that don't seem to have your inside knowledge? I was unaware that having an opinion on such things as social media without having a large amount of knowledge of the inside workings on other matters was a reason to be frowned upon by posters such as yourself? So why don't you explain to me why has there been Goodwill lost? What would you do to improve the clubs crowds and memberships? And what do you think is the number one thing that needs improving at the Organisation?

As a person ‘new’ (hard to tell given you use a pseudonym) to dealings with the Aces, my suggestion is that you will work what needs an upgrade in due course.
The social media side, well, yesterday you just got about the best free kick possible provided to you. The information was effectively provided free of charge via an open forum. In reality, you have to wonder why the front office could not complete something of even a quarter in detail over the past three/four months. Other ABL clubs seem to have done so. Effectively our heroes in the front office could not find even a solitary hour over the past four months to put a single thing together for members.
As for it being frowned upon, forgive me, but I’ve seen forum posters arrive all gung-ho and with good intentions before, only for things to flame out (acespr anyone?). It’s not frowning, just caution.
The Goodwill? You’ll have to let me know who you are before I delve into that one I’m afraid. Sometimes when holding a conversation it’s nice to know who you are talking to.

ace02. For a background on the "interactions" with the Melbourne Aces, have a look at the threads 'Jet Couriers Aces 2012' 'Jet Couriers Aces 2011' J'et Couriers Aces 2010'
You may notice a pattern of behaviour by the organisation

Interestingly and coincidentally, I guess, there was a"Aces" newsletter in my email box this morning.
It did say IIRC that the "top gun 20" competition was recommencing from May 27th for new ticket purchasers. No mention if that includes those of us that stumped up for tickets at the end of last season though.

I look forward to giving it a read tomorrow, moose.
The competition is starting early this year. Last year it started on August 14th.

Aces Top Gun 20 competition started yesterday.
As of the time of this forum post, no winner for Day One has been announced, despite the club last night posting on Facebook:
"Phones are ringing and we are excited to talk to your fans about baseball. Just about to announce our first winner....
Stay Tuned"

Dare one ask what's going on?

Both day 1 and 2 prize winners are up on Facebook and Twitter, The reason for the delay was we are waiting for pictures of the winners to post with the announcement.

Absolutely no need to wait for a picture. Day one was yesterday. No winner announced until after 8pm the following day? Amateurish.
On a positive note, a former member did tell me tonight they they'd received a call this evening from the GM. Calling after hours, when people have a good chance of being free to take a call - like it. Kudos.

As for the GM call I know they are working very hard to increase membership and promote the club a lot earlier this season which can only be positive.

Most delighted to receive an Aces newsletter in the past ten minutes.
Doesn't have the biggest collection of content, and it doesn't have to in May, but getting something out there to members/supporters does give a sense that things are moving along. Well done!
The standard of one per week has been set.

Good to see that on Sunday, the Aces posted the real photo of Friday's Top Gun 20 promotion (the Fabio photo was poor). So they got two posts out on Social Medial instead of one post, embarrassingly delayed due to the absence of a non-required photo.
Fortunately, no one else had thought of that...
Still, another small positive.

Hi Guys
We as an organisation thought we would make ourselves as transparent as possible and as many of our loyal fans frequent this site we thought we would post information as it comes to hand as well as promotions and benefits and also be here to field some of the questions from our loyal supporter base. We hope to have a great season in all areas on and off the field and we hope to have the support of the community and general baseball community and the Aces thank you for your support.

2: Will ACES offer a video streaming option for Home games next season ?

Good to have an official Melbourne Aces avenue open through the forum. Recent coverage has improved, with newsletters coming out weekly for the past three weeks, and the content is more than sufficient to keep members and supporters up to date with the club. The times for the 13/14 schedule are released this Thursday, so it gives cause for another newsletter next week, along with more promotion winners and perhaps some other information.
Disappointingly however, just over 72 hours have elapsed since Texasleaguer asked two questions of the Aces, who openly invited questions in their initial post. Sadly, Texasleaguer, who is an ABL volunteer himself and gives plenty of his own spare time promoting his club, the competition, and more recently the ABF with their Little League tournament, has been ignored thus far.
To those behind the Aces account on this forum, I’d recommend if you’re going to advertise for questions, it’s pretty poor form to simply ignore those posed to you, even if they aren’t the everyday Dorothy Dixer that you’d perhaps prefer. Both questions asked of you warrant your acknowledgement and a response. Perhaps note that you’ll answer questions once a week in the off-season and any follow-ups from those answers within 48 hours, and when required when the competition is in season. I don’t think you’d find too many people would find that unreasonable as a minimum standard.
To touch on the two questions though Texasleaguer, it is slightly embarrassing as an Aces member and follower to see that everyone else but my club had the energy and foresight to send their mascot north to the LL championships. It’s something that I’d suggest shouldn’t be missed in the future.
I can’t answer the second question with a yes or no answer for you, but I would suggest to you that if the club went ahead with a live video feed, they would find there’s be several volunteers willing to promote the club, the league and the sport in general by working on the project.

Is "melbourneacesofficial" in fact an official (IE an employee) of the club? Or do we Forum members just take that on trust? Aside from CEO Windsor Knox, the Aces website doesn't identify any person as an individual with whom we can make contact.
"Transparent", huh? What say we start saying who we are, what is our role, and how we can be contacted? This "official" should at the very least be supplying a phone number or email address at head office through which he or she can be contacted.
If the "official" role is genuine in this case then, yes, it would be useful (and fundamentally respectful) if there was a prompt response to legitimate questions such as those posed by teaxasleaguer after the Aces "official" had issued the invitation.
If "melbourneacesofficial" does not have the role that he or she implies on these pages, then the Aces club would be well-advised to make that abundantly clear in the interest of its own wafer-thin credibility.

Yes it was a oversight and one we will work very hard for that not too happen again. As for the streaming we are still looking at options on streaming and no decisions have been made either way but when we do make that call either way our fans will know ASAP.

It is pleasing to note that the Aces have started to update their website to provide contact details for persons involved in particular roles with the club.
If that gesture indicates a genuine shift towards greater transparency and accountability, then it should help allay some of the concerns expressed here - though there is still some way to go.

Good to have the front office on the forum, but the technical issues situation seems to be rearing its head a fair few times out at MBP. Happened last year too when it came to getting information out to members and supporters. My suggestion is you can use the same line only so often. Anyways, while we can ask some questions... 1) Following a season where the club was last in the league results wise (by some margin) and last in the league in attendance, where does the front office currently see the club at? What are the strengths and weaknesses of the club? 2) What is the ongoing viability of the club beyond season 13/14, and beyond season five of the new ABL? 3) For three straight seasons, we have never been aggressive in replacing the Japanese imports, instead taking the easy option by using club imports, which has been more miss than hit. Should the club choose the path of using Japanese players through December, what assurances can members and supporters get from our front office that they will leave no stone unturned in finding the best player they possibly can to fill the void(s) left by Japanese players? 4) When will coaching appointments be made? 5) How many coaches will the club use this season? Nine seemed overkill last year, especially with a couple of issues that surely one of nine coaches should have picked-up on. Canberra, for example won the title all while having a teenager coach first base for the majority of the season (appreciate they used an inexcusably high amount of imports last season - 17 on a roster for the most part). 6) What level of players are we sourcing for the 13/14 season? We went well below our import quota in 12/13, a strategy different to five other clubs, who all finished ahead of the Aces. 7) What is going on with the seating? Last year, a friend of mine was in row G and my wife and I were in row H. As it stands today, now he is in row H and my wife and I in row G. My suggestion would be to fix that. 8) What is being done to improve the ballpark experience in 13/14? The cheerleaders took a step back last season to the point where several members I spoke to, reckoned they could be done without, while the volume level of the speakers was for the most part too high. Further, you always had to cross your fingers to hope that parking would be OK, even if you were at the ground two hours before the first pitch. It was quite unsettling to be there with an empty car park, but be shunted at times to spots where foul balls would be more likely to hit your car than where you'd otherwise have preferred to park.

What are the strengths and weaknesses of the club? Obviously we have much improvement to make from the starting pitchers to improving our RISP % so many areas to look at for next season. Our memberships were actually close to previous years numbers and we expected a bit of a drop moving to a new ground although we have higher expectations this year.2) What is the ongoing viability of the club beyond season 13/14, and beyond season five of the new ABL? Our connection with the Nippon league is important and will continue, using club imports is not always the easy route and finding non affiliated players can be sometimes a complicated and expensive proposition, we continue to be aggressive in our efforts to attract the best players out there4) When will coaching appointments be made? By July 31st we should have a coaching staff announced5) How many coaches will the club use this season? Lots of lessons from last season, new ballpark and operationally we had to make adjustments as we went along. Parking will be extended to accommodate more cars away from foul ball areas. More entertainment is on the way and will be announced soon

The great Casey Stengel once said "I don't make prediction, especially of the future"
If melbourneacesofficial is in fact the new guy, I applaud your enthusiasm and optimism, and I'll encourage you to maintain that during your time with the Aces.
I don't believe for one second that the above comes from the new guy though. Heard all these songs before.
Here is my prediction... The first date mentioned above, the 31st of July will come and go without the coaches being appointed.
