Plenty to talk about this week, with junior finals in progress and senior playoffs starting in several grades.
And there is the still to be resolved issue of who will finish where in Division One and Two firsts......

Can Melbourne still make a bid for fourth in Divvy One? Who will finish eleventh and face possible relegation? Who will finish third and fourth in Divvy Two? Matters of importance to some clubs, I would have thought.

Hope BVSL soon realise that Footscray finished 3rd in Womens Div 3 and therefore are entitled to the home game as per their own finals playing conditions

Cheltenham Div 1, A's got the win over Preston 8-2. Blake Cunningham had a blinder with Steve 'G' closing it out. The first runs were scored by the Pirates (2) and things weren't looking good for the Rustlers in the first frame with runners LOB and errors in fielding but the fight back came for Chelt' who started to find 'Buzzys' measure which was stomped on by a centre field grand slam from Nick Rossell. Big props to the Preston catcher Massa (?) Endo who took a massive hit from home plate stealer 'Chedda' Gribbin for the out, no run scored. 2 HPB's and something else painful I can't recall. Epic effort. Buzzy got his rythm back but too late. Good game.

Saw two good games of baseball yesterday, good hitting, good pitching and some good fielding, just got a bit confused as to where the strike zone was. Apart from that, a very enjoyable day that was split with a win and a loss. I do agree with you perfeckt, there is a lot of talent to tapped into for the future at Chelt.

Another great game of finals baseball at Willy saw St Kilda get up over Williamstown 9-7. Lead must have changed at least 4 or 5 times, with the saints going ahead by 2 in the top of the 9th and holding on. A good game played in good spirits on a perfect day for baseball.
p.s. Must have been something in the sports drinks in the Div 3 reserves finals games - 86 runs scored in the two games!!!!

Tight but fair and consistent strike zone

Player/club was under the impression that masters games count as qualifying games, this has turned out to be incorrect. It used to be the case, but BV changed this rule at the start of ?2011/12?, after Richard King played mainly masters for Essendon in the summer of 2010/11 then (relief) pitched their 3s to a GF win despite barely playing for them all season. :-) (Well done, Kingy - only an elite few have precipitated a change in the rules of their sport: Lindrum, Bradman, and now one R. King. ;-)

Another strange rule change with little or no notification. An U16 player with his team not making finals CANNOT sit on the bench and come in and play for his clubs U18 side in the finals. How is that stacking your side? How is that taking advantage?

Without knowing all the details Id say Id agree with that ruling as Age Groups should be seen as separate competitions I reckon.
If you havnt played with that Higher Aged Team during the year then you shouldnt represent them in Finals Id have thought PLUS isnt it pushing out a player that did play in the Higher Age group all year as part of that team ?

As I said - He is sitting on the bench as a reserve! THE DETAILS. U18 have had 11 boys all year and make finals. This weekend is a long weeked 2 boys are away with their family= bare 9. U16 boy is asked to sit as a spare in case of injury. NOT allowed.

In that scenario it would be good if there was a special permit process.

I think it's a good rule, even if the circumstances are as mentioned. We know there are people out there that will manipulate the rules to suit their best needs. So I'd suggest this wouldn't be changed for anything. It's unfortunate, but that's life. Maybe what should be looked at more carefully is the fixturing of junior games this season. Playing on the 23rd of dec, resuming on the Australia Day long weekend, and finals on labour day long weekend! That's absolutely farcical, and definitely needs to be put on BV's agenda going forward. I'll certainly be bringing it up at coming p & s meetings.

Didn't the lower grade grand finals take place on the long weekend in the past. I am sure I remember celebrating a win or two and not having to worry about work the next day. Why the change?

I don't recall any submission being put to the SLC for this situation??? That said, I wouldn't guarantee it would be permitted... if the U/18's were in a situation where they had less than nine players, more likely. I agree, we should be looking at rules that enable more players to play more baseball... but under the current rules, allowing that player to sit on the bench does create an advantage just by allowing his presence.

Wyatt33, just about everyone I've ever spoken to says they wish we could come up with ways for juniors to play more baseball, yet you've just reduced their season to 12 games. Farcical indeed.

No submission was put to BV because who would have thought it would be a problem. A senior can play all year in the 2s and yet sit for the 1s. No permission required. How is a 15yo sitting on the bench for the U18s an advantage? How is it stacking a side? 15 IS under 18 last time I checked. What was the thought behind the current rule?
