With the Pan Pacs starting on the Gold Coast next week and a heap of Vic teams - Big Cat Tomatoes, Guild, Bendigo, Valley Power, Melbourne Thunder, Melbourne, Triple D's, Golddiggers & Essendon - anyone care to make a tip. Big Cats looking strong in both 35's & 45's with a couple of handy recruits in Spear, Marnell & A. Utting for the young boys. And of course Buzzzzz. How's your boys looking Goblin?

For the 35's your blokes are a lock to wrap the gold medal game. In fact the other teams should just stay at home and not waste their time. As for the 45+ GoldDiggers, nothing much changes (that I am aware off), same faces that attend the tournaments each year. In fact they are now getting on the aged side and probably should be entering the 50-55+ group. Hopefully everyone has their insurances up to date as there is usually a number that sustain injury's relative to their aged body's. On the field AND off the field.

Yeah I agree Goblin - should be good to watch them play over a light beverage.
With Wavo not going I'm heading up with the Melb Thunder in the 50+ with a bunch of boys that I first played and travelled with 8 years ago in Masters, so that will be fun no doubt.
We have a handy team of old stagers from around that traps including Knox, Ringwood and UFTG mid grade players, so we'll be competitive in that grade I'd expect. And with those crap outer diamonds up there and the Bermuda Triangle in between them both who knows what can happen up there.
It will be enjoyable thats for sure Evo !

Big Cats play Canberra for the second time today in 35s but both teams have picked up players for this one. Spearsy instant impact yesterday after early morning flight and Rustys wedding with a muff fly 8 home run over centre field. AJ nearly choked when he saw the red pen come out. Big Cats 4 and 0 in both but challengers coming. Gold diggers still only dropping one game are well in the hunt. Not sure where the biggest queue is at the ground, bar or physiology tent

Also Melbourne got up over a Japanese team in the 45s today with a shot down the right field line scoring 2 late to get up 8-7 I think.
We (Melb Thunder) remain undefeated with 2 wins and 2 draws in the 50s after winning a tight one today over the Aussie Aces 5-4.

Looks can be deceiving Authentic, Melbourne are actually playing in the 40+, not 45+. We have gone 3 from 4 including the memorable win against Japan today. Match reports: Game 1. A ten run first innings set the tone. Phil Balzer put in a dominant effort on the mound and we rarely made a mistake in the field. The opposition struggled to make basic plays and we continued to hit the ball hard.
Melbourne Demons 10, 0, 7, 0 – 17 runs Macarthur Colts 0, 0, 0, 2 – 2 runs Hits – 2 hits – Hodgson (dbl), Keyhoe, Nicholas, McArthur (dbl), Tyndall, Sykes (dbl). 1 hit – Moore, Marsden Pitching – Balzer – 3 innings, 1 hit, 0 runs. Hodgson – 1 innings, 2 hits, 2 runs
Game 2. Surfers Paradise boasted a string of talented behemoths that knocked us for 3 home runs on the main diamond. Their pitcher threw fireballs and we rarely put pressure on their field.
Surfers Paradise – 4, 3, 3, 0, 3 – 13 runs Melbourne Demons – 1, 0, 0, 0, 0 – 1 run Hits – Hodgson (dbl), Keyhoe, Robinson. Pitching – Tyndall 2 inn, 10 hits, 7 runs. Nicholas 1 inn, 3 hits, 3 runs. Keyhoe 2 inn, 4 hits, 3 runs
Game 3. Melbourne hit the ball well again and were strong in defence. We went into the 3rd innings down by one run but had a 19 batter innings that seemed to go forever. Phil Balzer shut them down in the last.
Melbourne Demons – 2, 3, 16 – 21 runs Arncliffe Brave hearts – 2, 4, 0, - 6 runs Hits – 3 hits - Nicholas (dbl) McArthur (dbl). 2 hits – Balzer, Robinson(dbl), Romsioe, Marsden. 1 hit – Hodgson (triple), Sykes (dbl), Moore, Tyndall, Pitching – Clapp – 2 inn, 7 hits, 6 runs. Balzer – 1 inn, 0 hits, 0 runs.
In a tight game, Melbourne came back from a deficit 3 times, Melbourne beat Japan in the Pan Pacs this afternoon. A great game featured Phil Balzer on the mound for 5 innings and Peter McArthur hitting 2 doubles including 1 in the last two score two winning runs.
Japan – 2, 4, 0, 1, 0, 1 – 8 runs Melbourne – 5, 0, 2, 0, 0, 3 – 10 runs Hits – 2 hits – McArthur (2 x dbls), Robinson, Keyhoe, Crameri (dbl). 1 hit – Morrilly, Tyndall Pitching – Balzer – 5 inn, 8 hits, 7 runs. Keyhoe – 1 inn, 1 hit, 1 run.
Melbourne now sitting in 2nd spot behind Surfers Paradise who drew with Japan on Tuesday. We play Cosmos from Brisbane Thursday. The top team in each pool plays for a gold medal on Saturday and the 2nd placed team will play for Bronze.

Young Tomatoes also had to win game because of a quirky draw. Got through it Ok. Both teams in final tomorrow, 45s against Illawarra Snags, 35s against a strong Canberra team. 2 good games coming up.

Where were you today Evo - I thought Id see you out at Nerang with the boys ?
Our Melb Thunder team had just the one loss in 6 games in the toughest of draws in the 50+ and now play the Triple D's for Bronze t/row with the Brewers (with a few Wavo boys) and the Aces both from Adelaide playing for Gold.

I was there Cotch but the previous evenings entertainment saw me having some extra nap time under a tree. Big cat 45s came from nowhere to win Gold. Shut out for the first 6 and 4 zip down going into the bottom of the last the bats came alive to set up Sir Robert for a slam to tie it up. Tiebreaker extra innings saw Snags score one before a Tooleman double and a sac fly to Wearny win the game. Toolemans running on the sac a sight to behold. Light rain throughout game made base running treacherous and will be a problem for the two later games.

find it hard to believe that toole could run out a double or run on a sack fly or just run,the hits must have gone deep

Well done Evo - i didnt realise Robs heroics when I saw him sitting on a chair in the Mens dunnys a short while later ? Great effort by the boys. We (Melbourne Thunder) won Bronze in the 50+ over the Triple D's in a high scoring game. Great week by the lads who only lost one game in 7 to the eventual Gold Medalists Adelaide Brewers. Great tourney, wonderful volunteers, despite the poor organisation and friggin metal bats on crazy small grounds

We had Jimmy doing third base in the final. At one stage he was between pitcher and shortstop with me running on second and him only half watching the pitch. I had to tell him to be careful, Hubbs was up and after the ball he hit at Mick Harper earlier in the week could have done Jimmy a serious injury. A helmet wouldn't have helped. Will the organisers take note and get rid of tin bats. And as for the small porches, my left handed mates will tell you I still couldn't get one out to help the team - but we beat the righties 4 -3 (Hubbs and Bump 2 each)

Good to see some sanity returning to the Forum with discussion of the baseball that really, really matters in the whole scheme of things. My apologies to the Triple Ds for overlooking them in this week's Summer League report. The Triple Ds have of course been a regular fixture at Masters events for many years now. And tin bats, gj? Yep, plenty of us share your concern.

Poor organization? friggin metal bats? crazy small grounds? But it was a great tourney??? Don't be scared to sit on the fence!!! The organizers did a great job with 5 grades and only 5 grounds and the weather to contend with. The tin bat thing is easy, if YOU think they are dangerous then use wood. No rule says you must use tin. I have seen pitchers buzzed by wood bat comebackers as well. And the small grounds, give me a break!!Who wants to play on 420 ft monsters and need to leg out triples. The grounds are the same for both teams so no problem. As gj says the Tomatoes were the best team by far and only hit 7 HRs!! On crazy small grounds AND tin bats in 8 games !! Like I said no problem.

Great tourney, wonderful volunteers, despite the poor organisation = fence sitting. In your view.......I could back iot up with facts but I get the feeling you dont give a stuff. 'Great Tourney' - YES becasue of the game we play and who we played it with (players and umpires and family and friends) and the location that we played (as in the Gold Coast). 'Wonderful volunteers' - YES - the girls in the Canteen and the gang at Nerang were great all week. The ground maintenace crew were also briliant. 'Poor organisation' - YES and if you thought otherwise you cant have been there - result not available at times, fixture wrong, website unhelpful, standings not available, and I still dont know who won the 35+ game etc etc

I don't mind the short porches. Bit of fun for the boys to hit one out, though yes we only hit 7 for the week. Would not have been good to play the final on one of those grounds though. A high quality game deserved the big ground, and Hoges still put one out over centre. Even though we only hit 7 out there were some fierce line drives that could have hurt someone (ask Mick Harper). If the organisers allow tin bats everyone will use them. Most of the 35s used them. Only way to stop it before someone gets killed is to ban them. Must agree with Authentic on some of the organising. Poor considering how far in advance they knew the team entries. The only way I found out the results is on this forum or Facebook.

Results now posted but no mention of the MVP's. I know Dave Rosser from Big Cat Tomatoes won the 35's, what about the other age groups / divisions.
