Hi all, not wanting to hijack the summer season, but just a reminder to all that play winter baseball that most leagues AGM's are about to be held. As players, coaches, volunteers, supporters and umpires, we all rely on the time given by league officials at board level and sub-committee level to make sure the winter leagues survive and prosper. For this reason, I would encourage any person who loves being involved in baseball, and in particular winter baseball, to offer their time to run our leagues. The time required is not onerous, nowhere near what some may think, but the opportunity to influence the direction of the sport in the colder months and ensure the competition is a healthy one is very satisfying. For the MWBL, we have 3 board positions vacant for 2013 - so any person who is involved at senior, junior, volunteer or umpire level that would like to become involved, I would very much encourage you to nominate or attend the MWBL AGM on Tuesday October 31st - Greensborough BC, 8pm.

Is there any truth to the rumour that Peter Dihm is now president of the league? If so, is this a step backwards for a league which has come along one thanks to Mark Le Grew?

I dont know WSI, but I agree that Mark did a great job and hope that Dihmy (who keeps popping up around the traps doesnt he) does at least as good throughout the Grades (if the rumour is true) !

Don't you need a vote to replace the President? I would have thought this would have needed to be tabled at the AGM?
I guess if you don't like the appointment, go to the meeting and vote for someone else.
Has anyone else put their hand up?

Mark stepped down at the end of last season, so no vote needed to depose him. Did a very good job of steering the competition over the last several years.

There are a few years of baseball experience among those guys!
Best wishes to all of them in managing the biggest winter league in the land.

The whole reason for having an AGM is to elect office bearers for the following year/season. All positions are vacated and members vote for their favourite candidate. If there is only one nomination for a position then there is no vote - they are elected unopposed. Dihmy was the only nomination for President I believe. As you say, if you don't like it then go to the meeting!!!

If Dihm was unopposed then it wouldn't have mattered if anyone went or not.
