At the root of arguably the biggest probelm (at the moment) for the comp, clubs and players is Fixturing and Byes, Forfeits and Game time for players.
In another thread we spoke of how some clubs predict teams week prior to Rd1 and later find they cant fill them but they keep trying whilst giving Walkovers. Other Clubs (like us at Preston at the moment) have too many players for 6 teams but not quite enough for 7. And there is nothing worse (baseball wise) than having 3+ on the bench which means that 6+ players (or half the team) get half-games.
And in this connundrum is the issue of should you play players Week-1 onward who havnt paid subs ? and should Juniors play two games on a Sunday and a newbies get a half a game as a result ?
Here's one idea. BV (like we see in big Masters Tourney overseas) have a Webpage where players who want to play list themselves inc standard/position and suburb in a Player Pool.
On the same page is a list of clubs that need players with standard and contact details included.
Ideally each others needs are then meshed in the weeks leading up to Rd1.
And during the season there could be room for this list to be used to top up players when existing players are injured or reneg on paying subs and walking.
BV could even come up with a 'short term permit' idea where a player can join a club and play 2-3 games prior to registration becoming a factor so a player can be a short term solution and if the fit doesnt work they can return to the Player Pool.
Critical to this success would be that clubs do not get overly possessive of their players and take on (and receive subs) from many more players than they can garuantee will get decent playing time.
In fact week to week it could work that on this same BV web page Club A posts on a Friday they have 4 too many players and Club B grabs 2 of them to make up a team that would otehrwise have forfeited via a simple 'temporary permit' system perhaps ?
Just a thought.
