I'm a little concerned that as a current coach of four sides (juniors and juniors playing senior) over summer and winter with two separate clubs that I have not been asked to show my WWC or to have the club contact details updated. It has been four years since I completed a WWC check. My first one has subsequently expired, and the club President nominated as the point of contact for one of the clubs is no longer involved. One club hasn't even asked me if I have a WWC approval.
I have spoken to a couple of other coaches at other clubs and they have never been questioned either. I'm off to the post office on my own accord to renew today.
Has your club checked all coaches with junior access??? Let's not bring up worst case scenarios - can this just be a prompt to all clubs especially with domestic and rep juniors beginning.

Interesting Farnt because I'm the same as you, had WWC for few years but never been asked.
I can't say a lot on this, but take it from a former junior co ordinator of a club that has dealt first hand with a person of low character, and how easy it can be for a person with poor intentions to try and work their way in to a club. Really set a junior program back a couple of years. And he had a WWC check!

While it it easy to become complacent about the requirements under Victorian law, clubs and individuals would be well-advised to comply fully with the legislation. There are some pretty hefty penalties (including potential jail time) for non compliance (see the link below). Having said that, the system has some similarities with the use of CCTV footage. Offenders may not be detected until after a criminal offence has been committed, as larry's example demonstrates. Still, it is a starting point to at least help ensure that clubs and officials remain diligent in their efforts to protect the young people in their care. www.justice.vic.gov.au/workingwithchildren/home/about+the+check/offences-and-penalties/individuals+offences/

I was asked to get a WWC prior to last season after stepping up into a coaching role. I was also asked to provide lodgement/receipt details when my application was sent in. My understanding at the time was that BV required clubs to have these details on file (I'm assuming it was to show compliance for the authorities). If this is the case, it can only be a good thing as it gives parents peace of mind when handing over their kids to the world of baseball for a couple of hours.
