Rebels up 9-2 I think vs springy. Saving grace for the club, after a couple of lackluster performances from the other teams.

I hear a couple of BV employees may be at loggerheads after one included the other in a BV tweet following the end of a Division One fixture this afternoon.

It seems umpires have a little bit of an ego nowadyas....They obviously dont like being told they madw a mistake and cant admit they made the mistake and when this occurs, the toss someone out of a game.....no swearing, no demostrative attitude from manager...from where I was sitting, the umpire in questions was very aggressive towards manager in question and at one stage, got up and istigated confrontation with said manager....

Philniekro..So ONE umpire on your interpretation equates to ALL, does it? Nothing like a gross generalisation to make a point.

For some balance...
Thought umpires Alex Shteinberg and Peter Eckardt were great yesterday... missed some strikes and blew a couple of basic calls, but when approached, were cordial and willingly admitted when they made a mistake... was a pleasure working with them again.
Honestly, I don't think managers expect perfection, just civility and respect (no different to what the umpires expect). Was on display yesterday, from the informal chat and handshake in the lead-up to the Reserve's game to the jokes and handshakes following the Firsts game... treat your umpires well, and watch them return the favour.
Would happily take the efforts and character of our umpires yesterday in every game this season... Same from Week 1 (Pete Eckardt and Michael Lyons).

To the Doncaster supporter who felt the need to verbally abuse upweys starting pitcher Nathan Aron after hitting a Doncaster player in the leg. The comment of "don't forget you have to bat too Aron".
Well I don't think he forgot to bat when he knocked in the winning run.

I completely agree Nate, 2 games and we had Clapp/Mason rd1, then Randall/Box rd2.
All very personable, and hardly noticed they were there apart the odd friendly chat.

Eckers, sorry that you thought it was ageneral coment about all umpires..it seems that this umpire in question is posted on here on several occasions about his attitude and general demeanor. maybe i should have been a little better with my grammer...maybe the way you took humbridge to my comments makes me think you are part of the umpiring fratternity... ?

In the "Any thoughts Dept'......(yeah, I have plenty). Long season with a win/loss system that determines the Finals contenders which means, in a tied win/loss percentage, a count back of the individual games those teams played will determine the team that advances (have I got this right so far?) and that will mean at Summer League level every game from game one, counts.

Perfeckt,
Are you saying that the ladder is not worked out on a runs for and against percentage?
Is this a change brought in this year? If so, why?

Perfeckt, Are you saying that the ladder is not worked out on a runs for and against percentage? Is this a change brought in this year? If so, why? It was brought in a couple of years ago. I think it came about when there was so many wash outs and/or heat affected games. So when they decided not to replay these games they changed it to a win/loss percentage.

Obviously someone has gone to bat for me...Thank you but I dont need your help or words Phil...For what was said at the time, I have seen worse things done on a baseball field ( and I am one of those to commit such acts ) and only recieve a yellow card. I was later told that the umpire in question had his trigger finger on that day ( wish I had know that before ). 16-0 down, close play at first but definetly out ( even by oppositions comments ) late in the game..and thats pretty much what I said to the umpire... twice he got up and in my face and if I wasnt mistaken, I would have said he was trying to instigate confrontation. at this point, I walked away and as I got past the first base line on my way to the dugout, I said that this is why there has been little respect for the past 20 years. Tossed...Now some of you out there ( and rightly so ) would say " skinny, its payback for all those times you did it to umpires "...agreed.. but as an umpire, you have a duty and this is not the ABL, its div1 seconds...I have been offered a 1 week penalty...If it wasnt on a Wednesday when this is the 1 day of the week I get to see my babies and have them overnight, i would say shove your 1 week up your *%$..but......

Young Jessie was a bit sore and sporting a ripping shiner, but was also chomping at the bit to get back out there. I'll find out how he is tonight, but I'd assume he's a bit sore and that's about it. Welcome to senior baseball hey!

Skinny, for all the years I have known you, you must have known that the ump in concerned has very selective hearing to go along with interpretation of anything taht he wishes to hear. In general, the majority of the umps don't carry grudges, but there is one or two or maybe three that have elephant memories and just look and wait for the oppurtunity to "payback" even for something very trivial. Next time you have as an ump, you should carry the yellow/Red cards and flash one at him for being aggravating. You never know, he may have developed a sense of humour.

OMR...very funny coments..I will give you another to go with it...Tonite the umps were at Melb doing whatever it is they do there..anyway, tyhe head of the tribunal was there to waffle about whatever it is HE knows about the game, and in doing so, decide to make the comment directed at me and in front of 30 umpires, tells them I am an idiot..wow, wish I did take my case to the tribunal..would have been very emabarrising for him...some umpires dislike me, who cares...but most respect me and in turn I respect them..maybe MG should be a little more careful in the coments he makes about individuals who have been a part of this game for over 40 years..I could go on and on but who cares..we all know where it gets us....makes me want to get Baseball Radio up and running again..Rant Out
