Hi all, just wanted to post a reminder about taking alcohol to finals venues, not just for the MWBL but for all winter league finals. Clubs that make their grounds available can rightly expect that visiting teams and supporters will abide by and respect the laws that govern the consumption (and sale) of alcohol under the state liquor licencing act. For this reason, I would ask that everyone supports our clubs hosting finals matches by showing respect to the field, but most importantly, supporting through canteen sales and also ensuring that any alcohol that is consumed is done so in accordance with the clubs licence restrictions. PLEASE do not bring your own alcohol to these venues!! We understand and accept that on GF day, teams may bring an esky with a doz Crownies to celebrate after a win, but club committee's, coaches and players need to make sure their own teams players and supporters do not BYO and put in jeopardy a hosting clubs liquor licence. The MWBL will take action and possibly impose sanctions against those blantantly disregarding this request. Remember, if enough clubs decide that holding finals may jeopardise their seasons liquor licence, then we may find we have no clubs offering their fields, the result being no finals series.

"PLEASE do not bring your own alcohol to these venues!! In BOLD and CAPS, "DO NOT BRING YOUR OWN ALCOHOL...however we understand and "ACCEPT" seriously WTF.. and it wont be a doz, probably 6 or 7 doz!!!!! The participating clubs should do a deal with the hosts to provide iced beer by the doz for celebrations, no ifs buts or maybe's because anything other than that contravenes the licence

I agree that clubs should NOT bring their own alcohol to another club, but for the past few years a particular club who hosts the Grand finals have run out of Alcohol & Food before the second game evens starts, so we have resorted to bring our own, leave it on the bus and then only drink it when we are on the bus, to ensure that our players can have a celebratory drink after winning. We are happy to buy from the club but they always run out and so we have resorted to BYO. I understand that clubs don’t have a lot of stock being that it’s the last game for 6 months, but if you are hosting a Grand Final then you should be able to provide spectators and players with drink and food, and not run out before the 2nd game.

Got to be the most irritating thing of all when a club runs out of drinks or food from the canteen half way through the day particularly at main games. Bad management and then people don’t take the risk next time and bring their own. As for the licensing issues I don’t believe that there is an issue if someone byo for personal consumption and I don’t see how someone can stop them perfectly legal to drink in a park. Although I completely agree that you should support the club that is hosting the games as most people do.

I really don't know what you people are going on about. In 30 odd years of attending DBA Finals, not one club that hosted a final in all those years ever ran out of food and drink. I suppose that is one of the advantages of playing the "BEER" League. Perhaps the DBA could give the MWBL Clubs a few pointers.
