OAKLAND, Calif. (USA)-- Oakland Athletics lefthander Travis Blackley (1-2) pitched 6.0 strong innings, giving up two runs on five hits to earn his first major league victory in seven years as the A's triumphed 10-2 over the San Diego Padres in the series opener at the Coliseum.
Unlike several of the A's recent high-scoring games, Blackley made sure this one didn't become a slugfest all around. His six-inning outing was his longest start since joining the A's rotation on May 28, and it might've been his best, too.
After allowing a run in each of the first two innings, Blackley settled down and held the Padres scoreless over his last four frames. His 104 pitches were 11 more than he's thrown in any other start, and he earned his first big league win since 2004.
The Melbourne Ace lefthander has spent time with two Bay Area clubs this season, starting off the season with the Giants, appearing in four games, getting released and then picked up by the Athletics. With the East Bay club, Blackley has appeared in six games with three starts, producing a 4.78 ERA. Overall he has a 4.91 ERA in 10 games.
A professional since playing in the Northwest Single-A league in 2001, Blackley first came up with the Seattle Mariners in 2004, where he went 1-4. He also had a stint with the Giants in 2007.

I would also like take a moment to say hello to this board and let you know I was hired on as the communications director for the Aces. I helped out Baseball Victoria four years ago during its semifinal run in the Claxton Shield....
I have about a dozen years of experience in the sports PR realm and welcome any thoughts or comments on the Aces, the ABL, Baseball Victoria and anything else that might be on your mind.
We will try to address them on our website, Facebook page, Twitter and on this forum, when it warrants.
My email address is nadler@melbourneaces.com.au
I look forward to hearing from you!

Travis picked up another win today against the Bluejays 7-2. Trav kept the J's to 1 run over 7 digs. 8K's, 1 walk, 1 run (homer) off 4 hits. ERA 2.07 over his last 7 outings. Congratulations Trav! Great stuff from the star Aussie in the "Bigs" at the moment.

Good news for Trav .... A's pitcher Bartolo Colon was suspended for 50 games Wednesday after testing positive for testosterone, a performance-enhancing substance in violation of Major League Baseball's Joint Drug Prevention and Treatment Program.

Why?

Because it decreases the A's chances of getting in with Colon out. i understand what coachstu is saying but given that it is a team game, Travis might not have been exactly jumping for joy.

Travis is down for another spot start tomorrow (our time) against the Indians.
I hope he keeps doing well with all the opportunities presented to him.
