Glenelg vs Southern Districts
In the season first double header Glenelg were able to post two wins against Southern Districts to move their record into the positive.
Glenelg were well served all day with the bat by Matty Davis, jamie Kloeden and Lachlan McGearey. Korean import Rok Choi also showed his form is on the improve a he connected for three hits on the day.
Glenelg hurlers Jay Ziersch and Chris Lawson dominated the Southern hitters for most of the day before a late revival care of some clutch hitting by Terry Millwood saw the home team tie the game in the eight inning. The Tigers responded immediately with a one out triple to McGearey to put it beyond doubt and Lachy Eldridge got the save.
Glenelg now look ahead to take on Golden Grove and South take on Adelaide.
Kensington vs Golden Grove
Kensington have surged to the top of the table as the only undefeated team in the league gaining wins number five and six as they steamrolled the youthful Golden Grove.
Scoring runs is what they have been best at doing and with Craig Watts posting home runs number five and six on the season leading his team to twenty runs on the day. Ben Onofrio was also a handy contributor with the bat and big import right hander Richard Bartlett is improving with every outing.
This weekend will be a true test for the Cardinals as they prepare to take on Goodwood led by star righty darren Fidge.
Golden Grove will host the Tigers as they look to snap out of their current patch of shaky form.
Sturt Vs Adelaide
Sturt did the right thing by all concerned capping off a great celebratory weekend for their 100th year with a pair of wins against fellow centurion Adelaide.
Sturt coach Tony Catt, a long time stalwart and legend of the club will be very pleased his young team is starting to reach it potential. Left handed Pat Burns has been great for the Saints and Philadelphia Phillie farm hand Angus Roeger has been in great touch with the bat posting yet another home run.
Adelaide have been light on offensively and this continued failing to score in game one as the Sturt pitching dominated.
Sturt will now confidently look ahead to their next round encounter with Port Adelaide with renewed confidence and a big shot at causing yet another upset.
Adelaide take on South in what is now a must win game for the Angels.
West Torrens vs Northern Districts
West Torrens moved into second place on the ladder care of two sound victories over Northern Districts.
The Eagles were able to score often on the Reds pitchers but also let in a few more than coach Andrew Scott would have been pleased with. North are an inconsistent opponent at times but have a very good core of their line up and were able to put some good swings on when it counted to move some men across the plate.
They now take on Woodville in a game they will be competitive in and have an expectation they can win.
West Torrens go into their game against an in form East Torrens looking to stay within touch of top spot and will look to import right hander Tyler Levin to continue his great form.
Goodwood vs Woodville
Ina sign of things to come Woodville showed yet again they can match it with the best as they took a narrow loss against the leagues in form team Goodwood.
It was again Darren Fidge as he has done so many time shutting out the Woodville line up to post a 1-0 win in game one.
The Goodwood bats came to life in game two to show the young Woodville line up exactly what it will take to be amongst the best teams in the league.
Young Chris Doyle again showed he is an up and coming star taking the tough 1-0 loss.
Goodwood now move into an early season blockbuster against undefeated Kensington as Woodville look to get back on the winning list against Northern Districts.
Port Adelaide vs East Torrens
East Torrens caused the upset of the round as they were able to overcome the mighty Port Adelaide and take the pair of tight games.
The Redsox are very quickly becoming the tight game specialists as they go about their business and earn the respect of the rest of the competition. Tyler Levin continues to be dominant and the form of Andrew Wilton will be most pleasing for coach Andy Sperling. Stocky catcher Jake Haaker has showed some improved form of recent time and was able to handle their staff well and swing the bat confidently.
Port are not off to their traditional fast start and will welcome the return of Jaron Van d**e and Ryan Murphy ion the coming weeks. New coach Mark Born will have plans in place to make sure they are ready to peak at the right time but he will also be aware of how important early season wins are to build some momentum for latter in the year.
Port now regroup to take on Woodville and East Torrens will look to reverse the round one loss to West Torrens.
