Glenelg vs Goodwood
Goodwood signaled it will be one of the top contenders this season with an impressive come from behind win against Glenelg on the back of yet another superb performance from Darren Fidge.
The Tigers jumped out of the blocks to post six early runs off Fidge but the veteran hurler adjusted his game plan going to the breaking ball more often and very effectively to silence the Glenelg bats other than a seventh inning home run to tie the score at seven from Ben Hilterbrand.
The Indians hitters grafted back into the game and eventually ran out winners 11-7.
Fidge not only pitched the complete nine inning but collected four hits to join Ben Wigmore and James Bushell as the standouts for the Indians.
This week will see the first double header of the year and also a very special occasion down at the Reservation as club legend and stalwart Scott Pratt plays his 600th club game. “Supedog” as he is know in the baseball world is a three time premiership player and lifetime Goodwood man.
West Torrens vs Sturt
West Torrens moved to equal top spot with Kensington as they steam rolled Sturt 13-3.
The game promised plenty early as both team scored easily but it was West Torrens with Mick Forbes leading the way that pounced scoring ten unanswered runs to go on to a mercy rule victory. The Eagles will now take the undefeated record into this weekends double header clash with Northern Districts.
Sturt host Adelaide as they celebrate their 100th year in the competition. The club is holding its gala dinner the night before and hope for an excellent result on the field to cap the weekend off.
East Torrens vs Northern Districts
East Torrens moved into the top four with a comfortable 12-4 victory over Northern Districts.
The Redsox came to play as they put up five runs in the first inning to create an unassailable lead and cruise through to their second win of the year.
Brad Thomas has been a solid early season contributor for the Redsox after a five year absence form the game and a welcome return to support veteran shortstop Glen Simmons.
This weekend shapes as a big test for the Redsox as they travel to take on Port Adelaide in the double header.
Norths will look to bounce back to the winners list but run into undefeated West Torrens.
Port Adelaide vs Southern Districts
Port Adelaide again showed they know how to win by getting out of jail scoring four runs in the eighth inning to win 5-4 over an unlucky Southern Districts.
South looked the winner as Adam Crabb pitched his way to a 4-1 lead with only two inning to complete but a pitching change proved pivotal and the key for the Port hitters to come to life.
Tyler Green replaced Crabb and let in four as the magpies went ahead and help the late inning lead.
Dushan Ruzic returned for the Magpies and was serviceable and will be better for the run.
Port now take on East Torrens in this weekend double header which shapes as the match of the round.
South host Glenelg in what should be a very even contest.
Kensington vs Woodville
Kensington triumphed 5-2 over a plucky Woodville to keep its undefeated record intact leading into this weekends winnable double header against Golden Grove.
Woodville lead for the majority of the contest before yet another Craig Watts home run got the Cardinals back into the game and some late inning runs ended the contest.
Woodville showed they will be right around the mark this season with Chris Doyle again ding a great job before being relived by young lefty Joel Smith.
Woodville now host Goodwood in their biggest challenge to date in this weekend double header.
Adelaide vs Golden Grove
Adelaide posted their first win of the season in emphatic style as they hammered a disappointing Golden Grove 14-1 in a mercy rule victory.
Justin Roe was the winning pitcher for the Angles who were without injured skipper Darren White.
This did not deter the Angle bats as they hit early and often twice putting up six runs in an inning. Matt Pace again led the way for the Angles as he collected five of his trade mark line drives for safe hits in a welcome return to form.
The Angels will welcome their import pitcher this week ahead of the double header clash with Sturt.
Golden Grove will look to get their first points but their job will be a tough one against the undefeated Kensington Cardinals
