Kensington's Jeff Feichtner was pretty good, as was Brian Farley and Barry Lunnon all of whom won the Capps Medal on multiple occasions. Tyler Levin did a pretty good job last season too, for a "dud" as someone called him early in the pre season!

capps medals are good but aren't the be all and end all. team success in the playoffs is the measuring stick.
levin was good but i don't recall him pitching deep into March. On this basis, feichtner is the man since he was on winning teams.
ryan murphy has to be up there. his performances in the playoffs over the past 2 seasons have been instrumental to his teams success - and he isn't done yet either !

I didn't see the the criteria being that playoffs was essential to the argument. I also don't think winning the League Medal is the only criteria.
The question was "Who was the best guy to play who was not Australian"
Sometimes the quality of the player can't be measured by the performance of the team they play for, even Tyler Levin couldn't take a mediocre hitting lineup into the playoffs. There are other mitigating factors too, for instance Jeff Feichtner didn't have the pitching limit that is applied to the current imports to contend with, meaning he could pitch almost every game barring injury and the playoffs were only a one game affair in those days too. Even considering that he would have to rate highly.
I like Ryan Murphy's credentials too, he plays in the field when not pitching which makes him more of an allrounder!

Mike Carson - GWD Could hit some Massive HR's (480 Avg.). Saw him at Norwood Oval put one into the school at CF. Ball passed the Light Tower Half-way up and was still climbing. ( Bigger than Watts' RSL Bomb! )

Some interesting posts. Murphy certainly making a name for himself and two flags helps his cause.
Feichtner from the old school, pitched nine inning, hit in the 4 hole and hit the winning home runs when required.
brian Farley was pretty good, was as good as untouchable some days , when he was interested, hit for high average, was a great competitor and won a Capps i think.
The lefty from Sturt won two Capps medals, Barry Lunnon, had finals success and used to swing it also.

Farley won 2 Capps Medals, '88 and '89. Lunnon won 3, '89, 92 and 93.

After Sunday nights effort in the Claxton semi at Norwood, Murphy may have just won the title as
"Best import ever"!!
If he helps SA win the Shield in Melbourne on the weekend, it is his forever!!!

He would be up there, it helps when you can both pitch at a high standard as well as bat.
But i hope there isnt too much pressue on the man.
I think the pitching can contain the vics bats, but our batting NEEDS to improve now if we are in for a chance.

The thread is about the best import, nothing to do with the Claxton, even though I mentioned it as an aside. Stick to the subject, if you can, or are you so obsessed with the Clacko that you can't think of anything else?
