Windsor I appreciate your post and am encouraged by the fact that you are both reading and contributing herein (despite the inevitable and perhaps deserved knock at times).
Clearly however there is work to be done to get this going so that we can get this moving in the right direction, the post and update was a good start though.

I made a note of how many views this thread had between May 21st and before my first post yesterday and it was 134. In the last 36 hours it is now up to 1,127.
I'll say it again... Communication is the key. The attraction is controversy first, characters 2nd, success third. People will take notice, people will read and people will engage with you IF you engage them.
Windsor, I look forward to an email from you tomorrow giving us as idea of what's going on

I think it's great that Windsor reads comments on this forum and provides some personal feedback and insight into ACES operations to forum members.
My question for Windsor is : What are the ACES plans to Ustream games next season ? As a Bandits fan in Brisbane I'd love to be able to watch them from Melbourne if I cannot afford the trip to see them Live. I know the Bandits Management team is very pro-active in this regard and do what they can to engage the visiting team fan base during live broadcasts.

"I think it's great that Windsor reads comments on this forum and provides some personal feedback and insight into ACES operations to forum members." Read more: baseballradio.proboards.com/index.cgi?board=ablv&action=display&thread=3084&page=5#ixzz1xBWx0q3kNot sure that going early with the membership details being ready and then they're not.... and then saying they are still being worked on, and then being found to have stretched the truth somewhat re: the sponsors position is "providing and insight into the Aces operations" .......possibly is but not the way it should. Windsor, you make mention of off season staffing as an excuse for things not being done, communication can't be that hard, a forum and facebook update once a week, the moans from the members have been going on for weeks and weeks. Are you part time or fulltime, doesn't really matter actually, it should be first cab off the rank each week!!! Interestingly, I get a facebook update from a summer league in America almost weekly in the off season and almost daily as the season is nearing, I would have thought with your experience you would have brought that type of interaction to the Aces. Have a crack, it's not that hard!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Wonder what sort of wine they'll be serving at the Aces games this season

As a person who has been following the ABL quite closely over the last two season I have noticed quite a bit but never really spoken up. It is extremely clear that there are a whole slew of problems that have been touched on by different people in this forum but many fail to get to the root of the problem.
Many of the issues stem directly from the Aces management. There have been the same issues over the first two seasons and nothing seems to be changing. The only thing I have noticed is that the people who seem to answer the phones from year to year changes constantly. I don't know how many of you can remember the first season where Ash seemed to be the go to guy. That quickly changed to Kylee, then to Peter, then to Rosanne and a multitude of others last season (none of which seem to be on the Aces contact page any longer), who knows who we are going to get next.
It certainly seems that the one constant is Windsor and the problems continue to occur from season to season. Windsor you have mentioned the difficulties you are having with your lack of staff and you constantly call out on facebook for volunteers, this issue could be avoided by keeping the ones that you have with you. Or is it that they chose to leave?
If you are going to be a one man band then take some accountability.
Clearly the Aces need a dedicated staff that can build something for all of us to enjoy, rather than a revolving door policy that continues to experience the same issues from year to year.
Also the grammar on the website and facebook lately has really started to become annoying.
Just my two cents worth

Pretty easy to solve the worlds problems from behind a keyboard. This thing is run on a shoestring budget so staff turnover is gonna be high (if they even get paid) so how about give Winsor a call and offer a hand. I'm sure he would really appreciate it.

I wish it was only that easy. Tried to help in the past but they don't seem to want as much help as they cry out for.

Hey big fan sounds like you have an axe to grind with someone ? I think everyone has given this a fair go and I'm sure Windsor has been working his back side off and got the message that we all want more and regular info posted somewhere as it becomes available. Big fan if you have had anything to do with a club you would recognise that what faces Windsor are the same issues.......too many jobs for too few people. I don't think constantly bagging on the league and windor is going to be useful IMO. Not saying not to voice concerns just let's make sure we backup what we are highlighting with some positive action.....become part of the solution not part of the problem, as they say. There's always room to improve so critique is good. The biggest problem the way I see it is that they have been unable to confirm the venue so that holds up the whole sponorship, membership and ticketing issues. Sort the venue out the rest follows. There's probably a whole lot of reasons that final call has not been made, some may be confidential and can't be discussed. Let's hope it gets sorted ASAP.

High staff turnover rate is because of the shyte working conditions (pretty much every day a week) and the shyte pay conditions. Intern pay grade with no penalties etc. I heard this from the first person to quit the aces admin.

So this is where I get confused....ABL Mk1 no doubt suffered due to the lack of funds and this had to rely on good-will and volunteers etc etc but when MLB got involved I was sure that this would not be the case and that there would at least be half decent money to pay staff a half decent wage so as to get good people doing good work and staying in the role (which is so important to the overall success of the venture which presumably MLB would see/expect).

As mentioned above, you can't expect a consistent intern team with a shoestring budget.

My thoughts exactly Authentic, you would have thought that MLB would have modelled this "franchise" on minor league ball and costed it accordingly based on the work required......is there a natural summation to be drawn from this

It's pretty disappointing that we are 3 years in, and we are pretty much in the same position off the field as we were, when we first started. no home field. Limited communication to members.

Yes, but it begs the question "Do they have three years of experience or one year of experience repeated three times"

Exactly why I don't want to think about it. I want to believe they have learnt from years 1 & 2. But I can't bring myself round to think it.

I know the Bandits Management team is very pro-active in this regard and do what they can to engage the visiting team fan base during live broadcasts. Texas, I have heard that the Aces are still looking into the subject of internet coverage. Having done a ten-fifteen minute browse, I have found a MacBook Pro at Good Guys for $1124 (pay less with cash), and on amazon.com a 2 channel USB Audio mixer for less than $60.00. Microphones, depending on how many required, can be had for around $50-$60 each as well (did see three for $90 but question the quality). The UStream ProStudio Software package can also be purchased for $549 (the top of the range version that allows multiple cameras to be attached). So you're looking around $2000 ($1853 if you inclide two x $60 microphones) before adding in internet costs per broadcast. Tech-heads would know this better than myself. While up with the Bandits I know one game utilised the Wi-Fi from a mobile phone, so it can be done relatively simply. The cameras range in price, but you can get a simple high quality Digital camera for around $500 that would give you a start. So for around $2500-3000, this can be put together relatively cheaply. With Baseball Victoria looking to produce a periodical Internet TV broadcast, this promises to be the best opportunity we have for both the Aces and BV to come together with a strategy for the internet broadcasting of Aces/BV content. With this, quality materials could be purchased and the costs shared, ensuring neither side was overly out of pocket.

good idea...has anyone thought about approaching one of the or all the Uni's who have audio visual classes as they may be happy to do the broadcasts as part of their studies. Could be an ongoing part of the Uni’s program. There would have to be a few groups around looking to provide broadcasting work experience to these students particularly if associated with a national coverage. Someone may have the time to follow up with these schools and chances are they would have a lot of this equipment or it could be supplied in the first instance.

Who ever does the video, may I suggest that our Stu be involved in the commentary or as the stats man. Really enjoyed his work at the Bandits last season. Professional, knowledgeable, concise and best of all un-biased, strangely absent in most other sporting commentary these days. It in no way resembled the pre-pubescent commentary of the 20 year old commentators at the heat last season, which was really awful. The bandits came over as a slick professional unit with experience in the game as both ex-players and rusted on followers, knowledge of the players and most of all a desire to be the consummate professionals to best highlight the Bandit product nation wide. If we stream our games, which if at Altona is I believe a necessity, then lets stitch together a really solid Melbourne effort. Two cameras and top notch quality commentary.... we can do it!! Don't do like a Canberra (?) game where the commentator said that he was going to have a pie during the game and sat there eating it over a open Microphone!!! Neil W

Moose, along with Frita, I could think of no one more valuable to an ACES commentary team than Stu. It was certainly a pleasure and a bonus to have him join Bandits for the ACES series and hope he can again this upcoming season and Aces series in the deep north.
I hope some sort of broadcast works out for ACES where ever they play. Especially by the time the Bandits are in Melbourne !!
I believe the infamous Pie Eating commentary was from ( Ironically.. The Bite... b'dum tissssh ). Having done it myself, yep after a long time at the mic and a bit hungry... but yeah... turn the mic off and pass to co-commentator !!
Last I heard is Canberra are looking to improve Ustream from last season and the Pro Chris Coleman who does ABC Strikezone commentated games for them at end of last season, not sure if he is doing it again.

Great idea with the UStream thing! If the Aces dont have online streaming for games this year, then what have they learnt from the first 2 years? Needs to be even more so, if they play at Altona.

Is this spam? Whats it got to do with the Aces?
Back on Subject!
I'd like to see a subscription service for Melbourne and Geelong Fans. Nothing outrageous but just enough so that its not free. Say $25.00 for the season. It would help defray the cost of the set-up and expose the Aces to a wider audience that may in fact help get a few more along to our games. Country Victoria (> 1 hour drive) and interstate would be free. This will probably cause an outcry but done properly and with a quality product should establish a creditable outcome.

The two questions that moose asked related to a post by a new Forum member.
The post (promoting a pitching programme) has been deleted for the time being, pending further contact from the member.

Our sponsors and suppliers are engaged and ready for the next season. Windsor Tandarra Estate is clearly concerned about the comment above. Perhaps you would like to clarify this in more detail to as as you and your staff has not made any contact with us since the last game played in Melbourne. If you would not like our support, please let us know and so we can move on. My email address remains unchained Curious MC15 Have you had contact yet from the Aces in regards to Tandarra Estate sponsorship for this season?
