As visitors may have noticed, the Aussie Baseball Forum has emerged from hibernation.
While we felt that the Forum had outlived its shelf life when we determined to curtail our baseball discussions earlier this year, circumstances suggest that there is an ongoing place for this service – one that remains independent of other social media vehicles.
First, traffic to the site has remained substantial and ongoing since the Forum was closed for comment, indicating a degree of continued interest in our activities.
Secondly, there is so much currently happening at a time of great change in Australian baseball.
With the Premier 12, potential qualification for Olympic Games, Baseball5, Australian Baseball League season, state league competitions, a projected women’s professional league, national championships and other initiatives commanding widespread interest, the revived Forum offers an opportunity for people to post news, to share information and to engage in debate on a spectrum of issues.
Thirdly, as a “Voice of the People” in Australian baseball, the Forum remains totally independent of any organisation or any governing body. While we acknowledge the positive, albeit long overdue steps that Baseball Australia and state associations have taken to broaden their coverage and build positive relationships in the sport, there will always be room for improvement.
There should always be scope for constructive criticism, for the sharing of information and for the interchange of ideas pertaining to any issue or to any area of Australian baseball – especially at grassroots level, where the “voice” is even more vital for health of the sport.
Whether the Forum revives to command anything like the degree of traffic, discussion and controversy of its heyday remains to be seen – and will depend on the interest of members and visitors in an era when social media is being rightly placed under intense scrutiny.
Let’s see how we go.
We welcome your input and we invite you to comment on any matter of Victorian, interstate or national baseball interest.
Should you choose to keep your identity hidden to public view, we will of course honour that. However, we do remind members that we cannot accept comment that may be untruthful, defamatory, tasteless or that casts unfair aspersion on an individual or an organisation.
