Its great to see many Clubs having come and try days to attract new players ( young and old) to their Clubs. They all use a similar pattern by offering coaching and equipment for free and in some cases a free sausage sizzle to entice a newby or 2 to come along. I see the Umpires are trying the same method to get new blood into their ranks as well. That is a great move and I hope it goes well but charging $40 to "come and try"? Surely a free session would bear more fruit? Thoughts?

Just reading your post baseless, it is ridiculous charging $40.00 for a come and try day. You would hope that there is showbag or two to be given to the recipient if they get any. No wonder the Umps struggle to get numbers, since when did they become elite. They should be having a good hard look at themselves and ask why their numbers are dwindling and so many should be retired people are still doing it at a taxed rate. It is not that the standard is getting any better. Maybe they should look to within for improvement before charging would be or maybe umpires. Just my opinion that fluctuates from year to year.
