G’da Stu, with respect to the all supporting members, particularly those who have been so loyal for so long, surely parking isn’t the biggest issue? This would be an excellent new location, will encourage new sponsorship, more crowd from all over (particularly the East) making this much bigger and attractive - something we all want and very positive That’s far more important than $5.30 yeh? Attendance numbers are still average, games are delayed due to tunnel blockages, same old same old. I can’t wait to take my baseball crazy son and his mates to a game in town, I can’t wait to go with mates who don’t play but are interested to go to a game, then find a pub closeby afterwards, like we do for the cricket or footy. Driving probably wont be the best option – a train ride from any direction, then a tram in, drink more, make a day / night of it, spend more = happy days! The fight to get to Altona, plus it being embarrassing to take mates there – it’s nearly over!! ZING!! Here’s hoping this gets done! Very well said. Agree

In its current format, only if they played on the soccer pitch, which I'd doubt is big enough to play baseball on (would make the Showgrounds look like a pitchers park) and would not be overly spectator friendly. South Melbourne missed out on the A-League expansion this time around, but has a 40 year lease with the State Government. www.premier.vic.gov.au/labor-government-secures-south-melbournes-future-at-lakeside-stadium/If soccer were to stay, you'd have to get rid of Athletics Victoria, Athletics Australia, Little Athletics Victoria, Little Athletics Australia and the Victorian Athletics League, and potentially the Victorian Institute of Sport. I can't see baseball coexisting with a Rekortan athletics track. Where does the State Government then relocate Athletics, and provide an IAAF standard track and facilities, all while baseball has a pre-existing venue at Altona/Laverton that has had goverment investment in recent time? Where else at Albert Park? Where St Kilda Baseball is currently located? Potential for size but parking is frightful at that end of Albert Park and it's not overly public transport friendly. So where? Unfortunately, the new ownership consortium has not said much since their announcement of ownership, so right now it's all guess work. I can't see them shunting AA, et al out of Lakeside after spending over 60 million on the upgrades less than 10 years ago. It would be a horrendous waste of money to rip the track up, because they would have to do that to fit a diamond and still accommodate all the football that goes on. If Softball Vic and Baseball Vic had played their cards right, and were a lot more cooperative with each other all those years ago, we could have had a purpose built facility much closer to the CBD than we do now.

With three series to play in the ABL regular season, the two home series against Perth and Adelaide will be vital to the Aces chances of not only making the playoffs, but avoiding a one-off wildcard match - a part of the ABLs new finals concept. While the Aces will welcome Josh Tols back, a noticeable absence is that of Delmon Young. On August 24th, the Aces ballyhooed the signing of Young, alongside the announcement that Coach Deeble would be returning to the club this season. The club then used Young’s image in some promotional material following his signing. In his interview with the Alumni page (which can be found here - www.abpaa.com/aces-flying-under-the-radar ), Coach Deeble then noted Young would miss the first three series of the season due to his commitments in Venezuela. Young has spent the entire season in Venezuela, where he has been the premier power hitter, hitting seventeen home runs to lead the league, however despite being named over four months ago, it appears he will not be playing for the Aces this season. At this point, I’d suggest it would be worth the club getting on the front foot and providing an update as to how the first player they announced, and a marquee player as far as we understand, will not appear for the club this season. Right now, with Mike Walker missing his third series in succession, Young’s bat would certainly be most useful in the line-up. We’ve seen Melbourne Victory earlier today provide an update into their marquee’s injury (https://www.melbournevictory.com.au/news/update-condition-keisuke-honda) - and I recall GM Huber’s excellent document from 21 January 2015 explaining club suspensions handed down after the incident between Aces and Adelaide Bite players at Norwood Oval, so I am sure an update can be done. As the club heads into eight big home matches, hopefully people get behind the team and the club makes a solid charge towards top position in the Southwest Division of the ABL. In return, hopefully the club keeps their members and fans informed. Go Aces.

Plate umpire at Aces game on Saturday was deplorable. I just dont know how he is out there. 3 blown calls, one blown foul call resulted in runners crossing the plate only to be reversed. Enough is enough. Week after week, same individual continues to blow calls. Just embarrassing. Not ABL standard.

www.heraldsun.com.au/news/bid-for-baseball-to-take-over-albert-park-in-pitch-for-bigger-melbourne-following/news-story/f7d81bb8c85aee02a23c2480c9831c8c?fbclid=IwAR1WWPcVUyLSZ9cA6RaYPgmwNa_CHFtKvVT6JcVxcld1VM9mdjg0S_kE0y0A new baseball field would take over a popular Albert Park stadium under a plan to breath new life into the sport in Victoria and help pitch for international matches. Lakeside Stadium would be transformed from a soccer and athletics venue into a world class baseball diamond under the push to increase crowds and lure new fans to the code. The athletics track would be covered with artificial turf and a pitching mound and home run fence installed under the plan for Melbourne Aces to take over the venue during summer months. Melbourne Aces owner Simon Salka wants to move Victoria’s Australian Baseball League team to Albert Park from the state baseball centre at Altona to make matches more easily accessible for fans. Baseballers Jarrod and Ryan Dale from the Melbourne Aces are ready to take over Albert Park. Picture: Alex Coppel. He told the Sunday Herald Sun the move could help attract foreign national teams and all-stars squads, with baseball taking over the venue on a “bump in, bump out’’ basis in December and January. “We’ve got this beautiful stadium with beautiful views of the city but it just doesn’t get enough use,’’ he said. “Australian baseball needs to be more accessible and we’ve got this wonderful venue that can showcase Melbourne and the sport.’’ Night matches would be played under lights with the city lit up as a backdrop and theme nights and sports cross promotions staged as part of the shake-up. Mr Salka said he had spoken to Premier Daniel Andrews about the bid. “It’s sitting there waiting to be capitalised on,’’ he said. “During the winter they’ve got soccer there which is wonderful and in November and December athletics uses it pretty well. “We want to use it when it’s not being used.’’ He was confident big crowds would pack the 7400 seat stadium. “You could see all-star games, teams from Cuba and Asia and all parts of the world coming to play there,’’ he said. “As we get bigger and stronger I see no reason why American teams wouldn’t want to come and play but we’ve got to get more bums on seats first.’’ Baseball Australia chief executive Cam Vale said there was scope to split baseball matches between Lakeside Stadium and Altona in “a real win for Victorian and Australian baseball’’. “We’re not trying to take over, at best we would play six to eight matches there,’’ he said. “It’s definitely feasible, it can work and the idea has moved very quickly to a genuine hope from what at first seemed far fetched.’’

What in the whole cow pucky world would Cam Vale know. Geelong is in Geelong and by moving Melbourne to Albert park making it more accessable for all baseball fans, especially those in the south east sector, the great white elephant is no longer required as a home base. Who does he think he is kidding. The Club becomes independent and no longer needs the lording over by the incompentent BV. All I can say is bye bye to the GWE.
