Round nine in the land of the DBA produced what I thought to be the standard results for the games played. First up we hadv Bonbeach nicking down to Cheltenham in what I thought would be an interesting game, Cheltenham needing wins to stay in touch with the four produce a far better result this week knocking off the unfortunate Bluejays 9 to 1. Mornington needing to make this game a statement against Dandenong failed to raise a whimper as the Angels did pretty much as they pleased cruising to a 9 to 2 win. Berwick taking on Dingley had to make this a must win game to keep seperation of the fourth and fifth spots. Berwick did this comfortably with and 8 to 3 victory over a reasonably young Dingley side. Finally Frankston trekked down to Boneo for their first encounters this season and produced a very hard fought game. Both pitchers and best mates, Mitch Bowen(Frankston) and Stewie Mathieson (Boneo) threw six solid innings each before being relieved after the bottom of the six with the score at Frankston 5 to Boneo 3. Nick Veale relieved for Frankston and threw the last 3 for one run and Davey Morris the same for Boneo giving up no runs. Magnificent game to watch from a spectators point of view. Some good hitting and excellent fielding to back up very solid pitching performances. In all, everything you want wrapped up in 2 hours 5 minutes The top four has now taken some real shape with Dandenong sitting undefeated on top, Frankston two games behind Dandenong(both losses to Dandenong), Mornington sitting third a game and half behind Frankston and Berwick who now has a two game break over Cheltenham, Boneo and Dingley. Bring on the Carnival weekend and good luck to all competing teams.

Watsonia 7 to Heathmont 3 in A grade today. Mitch Ayres hit 2 home runs for the Penguins. Watsonia played well and deserved the win. Heathmont won the A Res.

After my two week sabactical, I better get back into it. In DBA land we enter Round 12 with Mornington taking Berwick at Berwick. The Dodgers woud be thingy-a-hoop after pinching the two points from Frankston last week while The Pirates had a walk in the park win over Boneo. This should be a close game with Berwick just getting up. Cheltenham travel down the Freeway to Boneo which is a must win for both sides if they want to stay in touch with the four. Boneo is always tough at home and Cheltenham haven't taken to the road to well this season, so, I have a gut feeling Boneo will scrap home. BonBeach travel to Dandenong in what should be by all accounts a stroll along the boulevard for the Angels. The Jays are showing tiredness as the season rolls on and will struggle to stay with the Angels. The Angels will pick up a heavenly win in seven. Finally Frankston travel to Dingley which is a must win for both teams, the Tomatos need the win to keep second spot and Dingley need to back up their big win over the Jays last week to stay in touch with the four. I just feel that the Tomatos desire to keep 2nd spot will get them over the line in an interesting tussle. Congratulation to the Geelong Baseball Association on winning the SWC. Well done to all the competing Association that played, may the SWC stay strong and remain a very viable outlet for all Winter Associations to compete and reward the players that wish to play in this long standing competition. Good luck to all teams this weekend.

The Penguins beat Ringwood 4 to 1 today. Sam Gibbons pitched all 8 innings for Heathmont in 100 pitches. Andy Jones was just as dominant for Ringwood going 6 innings. Homeruns to Daniel Mack and Jackson Hunkin.
The A Res was won by the Penguins 11 to 9.

Forest Hill and North Balwyn played out 1'all draw, full nine innings played.
Outstanding game of baseball all round - strong pitching from Busch & Taylor for Eagles and Dale, Burke, Kennedy & Jeremy Young for Stingers.
Double plays galore, with one started,by Jordan Young from in the hole as good as you will see, and runner thrown out at plate by Mitch Ley possibly the most critical play of the game.
Both teams had their chances and at the end of the day the draw was probably a just result.

Can someone confirm result of Essendon v Watsonia game. Results page on website has Essendon winning but ladder has points to Watsonia Definitely the result was Watsonia 9 defeated Essendon 6 Going into the last inns which just started a few mins from time, Essendon lead 6-2. Not long into the top of the last the light faded to an unacceptable level but the umpires decided that forever what reason that they would continue. In the failing darkness as the fielders struggled to see the ball Watsonia picked up 7 runs to take the lead. Whilst I tip my hat to Watsonia on their win, the ending of the game had slunk to the level of farce.

The results I have so far in DBA land is as follows. Frankston defeated Dingley 5 to 1 and the strength of fine pitching from Mitch Bowen (6 innings) and Rick Wheeler (2 innings) coupled with some excellent defence. There may be protest from Dingley for a minor rule infraction that had no real bearing on the outcome of the game. Will keep that one posted. Dandenong defeated BonBeach 4 to nil. This is a very intriguing result as is shows that BonBeach although sitting on the bottom winless at this stage, can be very competitve. Cheltenham travelled to Boneo and had the game in hand leading 6 nil until Boneo came back with three to make the final score 6 to 3. It was good to see Brandon Stenhouse back in Cheltenham colours. This will definately bolster Cheltenham's chances in their quest for the four. As I type my little heart out I haven't received a score from the Mornington Berwick game. Hope you all had a good weekend of Baseball and keep remembering to tune into the Ball Game every Saturday morning at 8.00am for all that is going around in local and overseas Baseball.

'...as the fielders struggled to see the ball' surely you mean the other way around Goblin. Don't the batters usually struggle to see the ball? If Watsonia were the away team then they would have to field the bottom half of the innings anyway and they would have struggled to see the ball more than Essendon did in the top half of the innings! I'm sure they wouldn't have been appealing about the light or gone on a go slow and tied shoelaces, swatted flies and changed pitchers unnecessarily and simply looked for three outs. Tony - 'Well Bill I think these little Sri Lankans are appealing against the light' Bill - 'What are you ****in talking about Tony the lights have been turned on for the last hour' Tony - 'Well Bill, I've been pretty turned on myself by the sight of these little Sri Lankans here tonight' Bill - 'Ah sh1t here we go' Tony - 'In their magnificent dark blue uniforms, set against these bright MCG lights. And I'd say this little fellas have to be strong contenders for that best dressed team award in this Benson and Hedges World Series Cup competition. The Australians too, looking very smart in their bright canary yellow' Bill - 'Canary yellow? That's Australian gold my friend and don't you ****ing forget it!!!! Canary yellow indeed!'

The final results have finally come in for the remaining game of the A grade in DBA land. First off I must make a retraction on the Cheltenham v Boneo score, it was Cheltenham 7 to Boneo 3, sorry Rustlers. Finally, Berwick v Mornington saw plenty of runs being scored with Berwick coming out on top 14 to 6. This moves Berwick into third spot with Mornington dropping to fourth. Cheltenham are now sitting fifth still two games behind Mornington.

Brilliant work again, Line Drive. On another matter of interest to diehard Forum supporters...... The plan was for the Forum (now nine years old) to fade away and basically become defunct by the middle of this year. However, it is clear that the Forum continues to meet a need, evidenced by the contributions of a committed group of people during the current winter season. For as long as people are keen to contribute, there is no reason at all why the Forum should not stay active at its original address: baseballradio.proboards.com/With some overwhelmingly positive and other unfortunately quite negative developments across the spectrum of Australian baseball, the need is even more pressing for the lifeblood of Australian baseball to have a voice.

Round 12 in DBA Land takes place tomorrow with a couple of defining games for the ladder chasers. First up we have Bonbeach travelling to Cheltenham, The Jays put up a good effort last week against the Angels and will be looking for more of the same against the Rustlers, however, Cheltenham have a small sniff of the making the end of season show and should get up. Berwick go trotting of to Dingley for a must win game for both Clubs. Dingley must win to stay in touch of the four while Berwick must keep consolidating their position in the four. In a close one, Dingley just to get up. Dandenong head off down the highwat to Mornington with what could be a depleted side. Mornington must win this game to get some winning credibility against side in the four. I still feel that Dandenong even missing a couple of their younger players should get up over the Pirates in a close game. Finally. Frankston host Boneo in what should be a close game again. The Tomatos are missing a couple of U/18 players off to the Rep Sides this weekend, while Boneo arre still making a fist of their return foray back into A Grade. The Tomatos should have just enough firepower to get over the Braves in what should be an entertaining game. In B Grade we have Dandenong playing Chelsea which is a bogey game for the Dolphins and will struggle against the Angels. For Chelsea to have any finals cred, they must beat Dandenong. With that said, Dandy to win. Dingley head of to Cheltenham and should take care of the struggling Rustlers quite comfortably. Berwick meet frankston at the Patch and both sides need the win as they are all on the same points. Home ground advatage to Frankston should get them home. Pakenham head off to Upwey who are also part of that pack on 10n points and need the win. I feel Upwey will be to strong for the Pakky Boys. Trivia Nights for the Frankston and Chelsea people at their respective Clubs tomorrow night. Have a good weekend of Baseball and may the weather be bright and the Umpires eyes clear.

Heathmont beat Greensborough yesterday 7 to 0. Matty Wilson and Sam Gibbons shared the pitching duties for the Penguins and were backed up with quality defence led by Cooper Goodman. Offensively, it was a great team performance. Dylan Trevorah hit a bomb. A Res finished 6 all. The Penguins scored all 6 runs in the last.

A couple of big results in the GBA, with Guild smashing reigning premier Deakin 20-1 and Saints posting a 13-6 result over Mounties YC. Meantime, Lara Wildcats continued to highball at the top of the A Grade table, with a 5-1 win over Bellarine - one of the genuine contenders. Congratulations to all participating associations in the Under 18 Winter Championship played at Geelong Baseball Centre. Two terrific squads in Diamond Valley and Dandenong played off for the title, with the Valley coming out on top as a worthy champion. Well done! The event, as always, was extremely well hosted by the GBA. Grounds, surrounds and facilities were immaculate, while catering was up to the customary high standard. On the down side, with the notable and commendable exceptions of Chris Mayne, Julie Jones and a core group of dedicated umpires, Baseball Victoria really does not seem to give a toss about the Winter Championships - at least if their lukewarm involvement in promotion and coverage of the senior and Under 18 events is any guide. Sad, really, and not a good look for a state governing body. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

As always KC, direct and to the point. You have my 100% backing of your comments and it is high time that BV stuck their collective heads out the window and have a real good look at the winter involvement which is probably better run by all associations than the bumbling efforts put forward by the so called heads of Victorian Baseball.

Onto the good stuff, Round 12 is now complete with some results enlivening the season and making the chase for third and fourth more interesting. First up we had Cheltenham playing Bonbeach who have shown great improvement over the last couple of weeks and pushed Cheltenham all the way going down late in the game in a thriller 8 to 6. Dingley needing a win to keep any chance of finals action alive hosted Berwick who also need the win to consolidate their spot in the four got completely outclassed by the young Dingley outfit to the tune of 14 to 4. In the game of the round Dandenong traveled to Mornington with a slightly depleted side and took on a full strength Mornington. This resulted in a ripping game and a true pitchers duel that went down to the wire with Dandenong geeting up 2 to 1. Finally we had Frankston hosting Boneo in what was expected to be a close game, got out of hand for Boneo when the score tripped along to be 10 nil to Frankston after the 2nd or 3rd. String pitching again from Mitch Bowen who trotted through 4 comfortably not giving up a. Boneo did score a couple in the 5th and the game was completed in the 6th with the score being 17 to 2. This now leaves Dandenong on top with 24 points, followed by Frankston on 18 points in second, Berwick in third place with 14 oints and Mornington in fourth with 13 points. Just outside we have Cheltenham on 11 points and Dingley on 10 points sniffing outside the four. Bring on next week.

It's fantastic to see you being the soul voice for the DBA Boof, I think it's great that your are here every week letting the baseball community know what's happening in the 'Beer League'...
HOWEVER, if you're going to continue doing the radio and posting on here with minimal to no research it's only going to send the wrong message to readers and listeners about what is actually happening in our league.
I cannot comment on other games, but the Mornington v Dandenong game was an absolute cracker between two sides frequenting the top 4, both with depleted playing stocks. Mornington were by no means "full strength"... No Jayson Arthur or Josh Mulherin (the 2 guys who have done bulk of the pitching, Mulherin is also the 4 hole hitter), no Paul Wignall (lead off hitter who is hitting over .500 and starting shortstop) and finally no Jack Pierson (starting centerfielder) who was away at the u18 tournament.
I'd hardly say Mornington were "full strength"....
Dandenong were also undermanned too with no Rutgers, Palmer, Meyer and Thompson.
A great pitching duel between Morninton's Rowan Johnstone and Luke Howell and Dandenong's Ryan 'Chicko' Phillips and Mark Surtees.
Mornington got the tying and go ahead run on in the 9th, but an interesting base running error cost them the game.
Such a close season... bring on the 2nd half!

Round 13 in the land of the DBA will bring some defining games that will definatley shape the four as the season pushes on. First up we have Dandenong heading off down to Berwick. This is a must win game for Berwick needing to keep the wolves at bay, Dandenong are travelling just nicely and with a near full strength side should account for Berwick in a close tussle. Next we have Boneo nicking off down to BonBeach, Boneo have been fairly hot and cold of late and wouldn't want to take the Jays to lightly, BonBeach will be searching for their first win and is my tip to salute the judge. Jays in a close one. The most important game of the round outside the four is Cheltenham trotting off to Dingley in the local Derby match. Dingley had the big win last week, while Cheltenham struggled to shake off BonBeach. This is truly a must win game for both sides if they are to keep in touch with the four. On a toss of a coin, Dingley in a thriller. Finally, Mornington head down the highway to Frankston in what is truly a very important game for Mornington. A loss in this game and their position in the four will and could become tenuous with Cheltenham and Dingley sniffing close behind. Frankston are still a bit shorthanded, while Mornington also is not at full strength, this is once again a defining game for Mornington to try and prove that they belong in the four. However, I will put my heart onto the sleeve and tip Frankston in a close duel. In B Grade Chelsea should be too good for Berwick, Dandy over the flailing Rustlers, the Tigers to sneak in over Dingley and The Tomato's to sneak pass the Pumas. Have a good weekend of Baseball and may you all walk away winners.

In a Geelong Baseball Association upset of sorts, Deakin ended its losing streak with a 4-1 win over league-leading Lara, while Saints scored three in the last for a 6-5 result over Bellarine and free-scoring Guild overpowered Mounties 13-2. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

With Round 13 now done and dusted, a few results raised a few eyebrows and altered the structure of the ladder only marginally. First up, Berwick started the ball rolling by outhitting Dandenong to record a 9 to 5 vistory. This leaves Berwick in fourth spot only one game behind Frankston. Bonbeach finally broke through for their madien victory of the season taking Boneo to task for a 12 to 2 Victory. For Boneo this would very disappointing as opposed to Bonbeach whom have been playing very good competitive Ball. In a game that was going to decide who stays in the hunt for the four Dingley prevailed in a very tight contest to take the game over Cheltenham 4 to 3. This still leaves Dingley a game and half out of the four and Cheltenham now moves to two games out of the race. Finally, Mornington travelled to Frankston for a crucial game for both sides. With very little in the game, Mitch Bowen from Frankston and Luke Howell from Mornington locked horns for the first time this season. By the 5th innings the scores were locked together at 4 all. A pitching change from Frankston open the heavens a bit the there was a massive flood of runs in the top of the 9th to Mornington who ran out comfortable winners 15 to 4. There was multiple home runs from Mornington and the solo shot from Frankston. This now leaves leaves the four as Dandenong on top with Frankston2nd, Berwick 3rd and Mornington consolidating their spot in 4th. A double header weekend next weekend with the Radio broadcast game Dandenong v Frankston, which can be heard on 98.7FM or 98.3FM. Talk to you all later in the week.

Double header weekend for the DBA which will either clear up the four or just muddy up the waters. Berwick take on Boneo and BonBeach this weekend and should be expected to win both. Frankston take on Cheltenham and Dandenong with the Frankston v Dandenong game being a live broadcast from 2.00pm on 3RPP 98.7FM. or 98.3F. Frankston will be looking to at least split the weekend. Dingley take on Dandenong on the Saturday Bonbeach on the Sunday will be hoping for two wins to keep in touch with the four. Cheltenham take on Frankston on the Saturday and Mornington on the Sunday, two losses and Cheltenham can pack up the season, even a split weekend could leave them in limbo. Finally Mornington take on Bonbeach and Cheltenham this weekend and need to win both to consolidate their spot in the four. Just a reminder about the Broadcast game on Sunday that will see Dandenong take on Frankston. Broadcast starts at 2.00pm.
All the best for the weekend.

Lara and Guild both enjoyed big wins in GBA A Grade competition, with the Wildcats blasting eight in the first en route to a 17-5 result over Mounties and the Lions getting away from Saints mid-game to set up their 12-3 victory. Round Twelve will conclude on Sunday, when Deakin plays host to Bellarine in a game of real importance for both clubs. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au/

The Penguins had a walk off 5 to 3 win against Doncaster. Hayden Dingle hit a 2 out 2 run bomb for the win. Mitch Ayres hit a solo shot. Josh Hendricks knocked in the other 2 Heathmont runs with a double. Matt Wilson and Sammy Gibbons were both outstanding on the mound. Doncasters pitchers were very good. McDonald hit a 2 run shot for the Dragons. Heathmont won the A Res.

The second of the double headers for the DBA is now complete and basically all that moved was the positions in the four. Withouit going into any major detail, Mornington won both their games to move into third spot, Berwick won both their games and moved into second spot, Frankston lost both games in one innings after some terrific pitching performances from both Jack Enciondo(Cheltenham) who gave up 2 runs in 7+2/3rds of work and Mitch Bowen(Frankston) throwing 7 innings of shut out ball before being relieved at the start of the 8th.In the 9th Chelt scored 3 runs to take the win.. Then on the Sunday Young Liam Richardson(Dandenong) 7 innings of 1 run ball and Mark Jones (Frankston) 7 innings of 2 run ball until the gates opened for Dandenong to score 5 runs in the 8th. And finally Cheltenham and Dingley split the weekend 1 win and 1 loss apiece. This leaves the four looking like this Dandenong 28 Berwick 20 Mornington 19 Frankston 18 This makes up the four. Outside the four with a mathematical chance are Dingley 14 Cheltenham 13. With 6 rounds to go, at this stage the four is gettable for Dingley and Cheltenham. Josh Mulherin had a multiple home run day Sunday with two yard balls against Cheltenham.
