"I find it difficult to rate a hitter swinging a tin bat... pointless almost. discussing guys from yesteryear who havent played in the last 6 or 7 years - all would have swung a tin bat. "
Chardy - both quotes above are yours - from that I gleaned you were saying you were dismissing those who had used tin? Sorry, but that's as simple as I can put it. I had my 3 year old niece look at the comment and she could understand it, so that may satisfy you now?
Chardy - is that short for Chucks Hard? I think I knew you as Try...................

How come a nice simple thread can become such a bs thread. Why can't we respect hitters from whatever era they dominated. After all it isn't called the current hardest hitter to get out, or hardest hitter who swings wood to get out. Not all people who are on this forum are current players and have opinions as well. It is great to reflect on the past and hear great stories from past players and greats.

darren smith was super country strong... i remember a time when i was strong (wind assisted strong) and I wanted to go darren smith in a pool in Bali, he nearly drowned me by grabbin my temples with his thumb and index finger.... well i floated to the top like free willy and there was some mouth to mouth resusitation goin on from a balinese local (yes, i nearly done everyone a favour and died)... after i had recovered I came out from shower in my room feeling like i was lucky to be alive (in the nude) and then smitty, Tony dinnie and his brother ants opened fire on me with the BB guns they brought in poppeys lane (bali) and fell back into an induced coma.... welts on me like i had been bitten by sand flys.

Another "blast" from the past.
As this was approx 8 years ago, in the early years of the forum.
Is everyone's thoughts still the same today, who of todays players could be now added to the list.

100% agree re Brett Tamburrino. To this day he is still a very tough out.
Switch hitter that can rack up the hits from both sides of the plate, excellent bunter.
Consistently put the ball into play.

Good call bringing it back Goblin!
Tambo still as tough as ever. As are a few names mentioned earlier on the list... Tierneys, Burton, Sticks and Benny Utts.
As much as I hate to admit it, Timmy Sullivan has joined the list the last few years (must've been my coaching when he was 12). When he was younger you could get him with offspeed stuff but now its almost impossible to get by him.

John Cavanagh the toughest out I've seen closely followed by Ross Arthur and John Hodges.

This is a easy one to work out. Just look and see who wins the league batting average at the end of each season. There is your toughest out. Stats don't lie in this case.

Matthew Sheldon Collins, Lyndon Hockey, Richard Vagg, Ross Arthur, Phil Allen and Justin Charles, just to name a few. And in my case, are a lot more. Each team had 1 or 2 hitters that were hard to get out and each team now has 2/3 hitters. Whether it's tin or wood, doesn't matter. You still have to get them out.
