On air each Friday night for the past three months, The Ball Game (the DBA baseball radio show) will this Sunday (10 August) take on another dimension by providing live coverage of a league A Grade game between Frankston and Mornington. Forum Commissioner frita will be on the commentary team. Tune in to RPP FM 98.7/98.3 ( rppfm.com.au/) We believe that The Ball Game will continue over the summer months, spreading its focus across a range of domestic, ABL, national and international matters of baseball interest.

After the success of broadcasting yesterday at Mornington, it now looks like we will be doing at least three sunday games next season. The summer version from what I believe has been taken up for the summer in our regular timeslot of 7.00pm to 8.00pm on Friday nights. The commissioner has agreed to be our ABL correspondent and have live switchs to the Melbourne game for score updates. We will be looking for rumours of player movement between the clubs for topics of discussion.

The Radio Show the Ball Game starts it's summer campaign this Friday or 3RPP 98.7 or 98.3 FM. Special Guest this week is Neale Price of Baseball Victoria at 7.40pm. Discussion about the upcoming summer season will be on the format along with the wrap up of the DBA season. We are hoping to be able to have a chat from time to time with most of the south east competing clubs to find out how they are travelling.

The decrepit old man of Victorian baseball tuned in to The Ball Game tonight (as he does most Fridays).
This was arguably the best edition of the show thus far, with a fascinating interview by Cheltenham Manager Matthew Tayler and some meaningful, knowledgeable assessment of Summer League baseball across the various senior divisions.
Without knowing the existing arrangement that the DBA has with 3RPP FM, I would urge Baseball Victoria, the DBA and any other caring interests to negotiate a deal with the station that would enable the programme to continue and to flourish over the summer months - when there is so much happening in club baseball, the ABL, national championships and at international level.
Going into recess from 14 November until mid-February 2015 is a serious setback for a service that has already shown enormous potential to provide coherent and sensible coverage of the sport for twelve months of the year.
Even if some baseball dollars need to be expended to secure ongoing air time and competent personnel, administrators owe it to the sport to be the best that we possibly can. I can think of worse ways to spend membership money.

Thanks for the kind words about the Radio Show. In earlier discussions I had with BV about some financial help all that was suggested was go and get some sponsorship as BV are reluctant to back or assist with the venture. Fortunately Ausport became a backer for which we are most appreciative of their support. To be totally honest, the cost of running the show is quite minimal considering the panel are all volunteers. We look forward to discussing as much as we can cram in over the next fortnight before we head into our Christmas break. Once again thank you for your support and look forward to when we return to run into the Summer Finals.

With our second last show for the year, I have been advise there could be some fireworks about the place about some comments made last week. Topics for tonight are the Baseball Alumni, Pan Pac Masters and local Baseball with a live cross to our man Frita at the ABL.

Giving credit where its due,"The Ball Game" on Mornington radio 3RPP 98.7 or 98.3 on the dial is a great listen each Friday evening. Reports of matches played, plus an insight to upcoming matches made easy listening in your favourite recliner. Coach Hendricks from Upwey gave a breakdown of how his team is performing, and some up and coming rookies in the system. This is something more than finding out just the score on the BV website Monday mornings. The cross to Blacky's Brighty on the bay, trying to land Moby Dick, or Jaws, in between chatting about the upcoming Match of the Round game Vs Preston was visually intriging. A press of the control button finds us in Altona chatting to Frita about the hitting machine Coz.from the Aces and the teams chances. Sound quality great, except the interuption and timing of the ground announcer.Curse you fella!! Previous interviews also with The Big Kahuna from Cheltenham, Matt Tayler where enlightning. Speaking of Cheltenham, there seems to be an opportunity to plug any social functions on the show,as they have a Team of the Century/Finest Fifty function at the Southern Golf Club Dingley on the 22nd November. Tickets on the club website for those interested. Just saying, give these guys a heads up and listen in. Its all free labour here, nothing like giving them a pat on the back next time you see them. Send some articles to the show via the radio station, it all helps. Not to sure whether a sponsor can assist here, the boys do have a beer league background which may be politically incorrect to have a grog company aboard, however they like taking the piss out of each other, "and as a matter of fact, I've got it now".
Cheers...........Beaver

Thanks beaver for the kind words. I know it is going to hard to toss the tag of a beer league, but I like your thinking as for sponsorship. CUB, we await a call. It is unfortunate the show heads to it's Christamas break early, but that is how the station rolls. During the break we will still be on the look out for stories of interest so that we can came back with a bang in Febuary. Once again, thanks for your support.

Well done again, guys.
Terrific discussions with Ronnie Carothers and Peter Giles, two of the most genuine and approachable people in Aussie baseball.
Enjoy the break. May The Ball Game come back bigger and even better in 2015!

The Ball Game returns to the airwaves on 3RPP on Friday 13/2/2015. We hope this year to cover all aspects of winter baseball as well as the MLB. The time slot should be the same as last season between 7.00 and 8.00pm following the Basketball show. We are now on the lookout for interesting stories or rumours that will make our first few shows topical. The team looks forward to bringing the show to you along with a few live broadcasts of games as the season kicks on.

This week the ball game has a conversation with Dave Clarkson from Cheltenham and we introduce Justin Charles from the GBA to give his views and prognosis on what is happening down Geelong way. Also the DBA season opens this weekend, so the panel will be at is best with their kiss of death predictions. 7.00pm to 8.00pm on 3RPP. 98.7 or 98.3fm.

This week on the Ball Game we have the previews and thoughts of Phil Bertrand discussing the MWBL and the dulcet thoughts of the DBA's Buddha on what is happening, along with Willo's MBL wrap.

This week we have a double header round of DBA matches to discuss and also we have Phil Bertrand this week to enlighten us all about what is happening in the MWBL. Also we have the Willo report on what is happening in the BIGS. I do believe that there are now podcasts available of the show.

thanks guys for asking phil about my question. very incitful.
my question this week is in the spirit of the home run derby at dingley.there has been alot of talk about the great standard of pitching in the dba this year, but who are the batters leading the home runs?

Post by perfeckt on May 26, 2015 22:48:12 GMT 10
G'day whoswingsit. For my money it's not about batters leading in home runs for the season but team batting for the season. I love the concept of the Home Run Derby because it allows individuals the chance to swing for the fences for no other reason than to have fun and maybe some bragging rights whilst providing mucho entertainment for punters like me. Oh... and a few foul balls that might remind the folks who unwittingly bought units in that territory of their folly. p.s. I like your spirit.

swingit, for us to find out who is at present the home run leader, I will have to break into the DBA Vault as it seems that stats are a national secret at present. But your request is I disagreeignment. Stay tuned.
