and couldn't afford to send our mascot (in a Cardboard box) to the little league finals in Brisbane before the start of the season where all other teams did.
Why do we need two mascots?
Say "goodnight" to the cheerleaders who add nothing to the experience when they are there. More doesn't mean better in this case.

or the clubs respect for the fans and their experience in allowing the old scoreboard to remain out of action for the whole season. Have had it on good advice that the only problem was a data cable from the scorers position to the scoreboard had to be replaced and it would work again? If true why wasn't it fixed?

I think we are possibly a minority when it comes to the topic of the cheerleaders - though to be honest they are more a pom Squad than a cheer squad. A differential I'm sure most people don't give a fig about. I don't know if it is a conscious decision to have a female only squad, but if they were serious about it being more than a show of T & A (though at least their uniforms are better now) they would have a mixed squad and the crowd would see what a real cheer squad can do.

I've been to many MLB and MiLB games in the US, probably over 50 all up and I can seriously say there have never been any dancing girls, cheerleaders ever! They are a football thing.
Much better things to spend their money on in my opinion.

Maybe this should be in Rumour File, but I wonder if anyone has further information on Jet Couriers buying Melbourne Ballpark and surrounds? If true, what are the implications for the Aces and for potential private ownership of ABL franchises?

Was interested to read that the Canberra Cavalry are having a player or two ring some members to thank them for their support this season.

haha, that could be awkward Goblin if the team only lasts another few years?
Could work for an AFL-NRL club though?

Does anyone think there is any danger of the Aces putting anything on there website about the award winners from the recent season. I heard the awards were announced at the BV awards night? But that's just a rumour.

For those of you who don't follow Independent baseball, there's some fine players out there, and a host of former ABL players are still running around outside of MLB affiliated baseball. I've probably missed some in this, and am happy for someone else to include them if I have.
Atlantic League
Bridgeport this week signed Denny Almonte, the former Adelaide outfielder who pre-season I tipped to win the league MVP and was on course for this award until he had a 1-20 week at the Melbourne Showgrounds. Even Carlton Tanabe hit better that series.
Sugar Lang Skeeters will be looking to atone for last years loss in the playoffs after dominating the regular season. Travis Scott (Canberra) and Dominic Ramos (Melbourne) have rejoined the club.
I hope Sean Toler and Eric Massingham get along well. They used to be together at Kansas City T-Bones in the American Association but now find themselves together with the Southern Maryland Blue Crabs, which is the former home of one Virgil Vasquez. The club has also signed this year's Perth fly by nighter in Brian Baker.
Long Island traded for Casey Barnes (Canberra) - working out a deal with Frontier League team River City Rascals.
The Somerset Patriots, the former home of Justin Huber, Kevin Reese and Nic Ungs, have picked up former Perth outfielder Robbie Widlansky while the Camden Riversharks acquired TJ Hose (Adelaide) from St Paul in the American Association.
Frontier League
CJ Beatty (Brisbane) has re-signed with the Washington Wild Things, while Justin Erasmus (Brisbane/Melbourne) will return to the Gateway Grizzlies, who acquired him from the Joliet Slammers late last season. Gateway also traded for Andrew Aizenstadt, acquiring him from the Wichita Wingnuts in the American Association.
Kyle Bruggemann, who performed so well for Adelaide this season, signed with the Rockford Aviators.
American Association
Off the field, Melbourne's Freddy Flores, will be the pitching coach with Fargo-Moorhead, - an upgrade from the same role he had with the Amarillo Sox in 2013.
The Kansas City T-Bones released Ethan Cole (Canberra), and former Perth squad import Lucas Irvine was sold to the Kagawa team in Japan, however they picked up late season Adelaide cult hero and second fence breaker of 2013-14 in Byron Wiley.
Amarillo picked up Casey Beck (Canberra), while they lost Adelaide late-season addition Matt Wickswat in a trade to Sioux Falls.
St Paul re-signed Anthony Claggett (Perth) and added another former Perth player in Brandon Tripp, while another Perth outfielder and (pseudo-pitcher) David Amberson and former Melbourne right fielder Carlo Testa will be with the Wichita Wingnuts.
Sioux City signed the pride of New Zealand in John Holdzkom (Canberra/Adelaide), while Sydney pitcher Connor Whalen was traded by Lake Erie to Schaumburg in the Frontier League on the 11th of January, and on the 13th was traded to Gary Southshore, where he will pitch for the RailCats this season.
Can-Am League
Jeremy Barnes (Canberra) will play for the New Jersey Jackals, while the Rockland Boulders signed Luke Wilkins, the Sydney reliever. The Rockland playing roster also lists Kevin Fuqua, who was a late round draft selection by the Melbourne Aces this season.

Just cross referenced the job spec with similar roles in Australian sport. If the actual job secs were met, the pay rage should be $95 - $110k per year. How come I get the feeling they will only offer 10 - 20% of that. This is actually not a crack at the Aces or the ABL, just an overview of how far baseball still needs to travel before it is competitive in the Aussie sporting landscape

If you believe that "clap trap" then I've got some prime swamp land to sell you. Word is that Dale didn't walk but was pushed. Anyone who knows Phil will know that he's not a quitter. Also around the traps word that Allen has gone and you would think out of loyalty that Harris, Shanahan & Burke would also be gone. That leaves the ranks fairly thin. Read the job description, who is going to be in a position to fill that role...basically as a volunteer? Looks to me like another American on the horizon

Maybe Gil might take it on - he was out at Beaumaris primary School with Windsor discussing all things who knows what. Wonder if harris would put his hand up if he's indeed staying on in Melbourne.

With the impending relocation of the Hawthorn Football Club from Waverley Park to a landsite in the Dingley district, this should be a opportunistic time for the Baseball Establishment to look into the use of the ground for a home that would be embraced by the Baseball community. There's no doubt that Altona, which has served its purpose to date, has always had its detractors for its location to the broader demographic of the Baseball stronghold. History has served us that Waverley Park was a successful venue for the Reds. Crowd numbers were reached that still stand firm by todays standards if not better. Whilst understanding circumstances have changed regarding the outside grounds appearance,a transport agenda to ascertain a combination with the existing train and bus networks would be a priority. The community will embrace it, and see our sport grow.Summer, Winter with junior tournaments added in, the future can be exciting. Love to see something happen in our lifetime. " Build it and they will come" (If its in the right area)
Cheers........Beaver

Well, it took a mammoth 15 innings but the Melbourne Aces finally won down in Adelaide against the Bite. 5-4. Game 3 of the series will now be played tomorrow at 10am Adelaide time.

It was great to see Nick Rossell on the roster for this series. Young, unsigned Australian talent, one of the primary things that we were initially told the league was established to showcase. But I am wondering why in a 15 inning game where you have one bloke go 0 for 8 and another 0 for 7 how he wouldn't get into the game for at least 1 at bat.
Oh and while I am on the subject of young Australian talent getting an opportunity great to see Freddy Flores back on the team.
Can someone possibly explain why in all the games in the Canberra series and the two so far in Adelaide why one of the pitchers starts in the outfield and then is replaced before they have an at bat with a regular position player. Hayden Godbold did it on Friday night and Jeremy Young last night.
Might be a really good and logical reason, but I can't see it.

It's to meet the Australian born player requirement for each starting lineup. Why are we in the aces 2013 thread? ?
