Fair point Wearnie, and it was certainly not my intention to be critical of the players or any particular individuals. It was more a case of curiosity as to what course of action a team would have if the weather was extreme. Has anyone ever protested on the basis of adverse ground conditions at any venue?
I am assuming that Bundoora (or more to the point, the venue itself) has also been reviewed as outlined by Wearnie. And while I assume there would be a certain amount of time granted to clubs to remedy any shortcomings of the ground, this venue has been like that for several years. Does this then fall onto BV?
The fact is, if there was Mens Division 1 ball being played there, the ground conditions would be infinitely better, or another venue would be used.
By they way - does anyone know why Yulong Reserve isn't being used despite being listed?

Unless things have changed in recent years, splitty, I would assume that cricket gets first call on Yulong Reserve during the summer months (especially Saturday).

For the Exhibition Game at the Aces on Sunday, how many people were in attenadance to see the girls play?
How many girls from other clubs went?

Not sure what the actual number was Larry, maybe 100-150ish perhaps, with a good contingent from both competing clubs. Couldn't say how many from other clubs were there as well. Well done to both sides on a competitive game of baseball and perhaps the only shame was that there was not enough time to see it go seven innings, as the contest certainly warranted an extra couple of innings, I think everyone fully respects the time required for the Aces-Heat to prepare for their match. Well done to all involved in setting the game up. Would be good to see another such game, perhaps even for points, as a curtain-raiser in the near future. Special mention to Rob Novotny in the booth - kept everyone up to date with everything in game from the box - nice job! On another positive for women's baseball, there has been announced a NSW v Australian All-Star match preceeding a Blue Sox-Aces game in Sydney. The details and rosters can be found at the below link. Congratulations to all involved on their selections. www.baseball.com.au/default.asp?Page=90183

Thanks Stu
I echo your sentiments on the selection of those girls for the game on the 12th Jan. Well done.
If the Aces were to provide another opportunity for an exhibition game, it would be great to see maybe an all-star type match up. Logistics may be difficult, maybe...but would be great to then have all/most clubs represented which would/maybe get more people to support the game and also promotion of women's baseball within all clubs. Well done to all involved though as it is a spotlight for women's baseball that has never been shone on it before.

The Exhibition game on the weekend was a great initiative by both Simone Wearne and Sam Hamilton. Well done guys. You did a great job in organising it!!!
It's reasons like this that both Springvale and Doncaster are the strongest clubs in Victoria with their Women's programs and reasons like this that I still love playing baseball!
The game on 12th January is sure to be a cracker! Wish I was there to see it! Good luck to all of those selected.

The Aces were fantastic in helping get this initiative off the ground. When the idea of a 'women's event' being run in conjunction with the Aces was brought up, they immediately requested a game between Springvale and Doncaster.
It is our hope that from next year onwards, a women's game will continue in conjunction with the Aces, however, likely a 'State Team' based game, or even possibly a 'Vic v Australian All-Stars Game', like the one that is being run in January.
The ABF are really on the right path at the moment, and are committing some time and resources to getting things going for women's baseball. We are hoping for 100 junior girls at our Training With The Pros clinic before the All Star Game in Sydney. Should be a great day.
I know there wasn't a heap of girls from other clubs at the game on Sunday, but i do know there were some there on the day. It was great of you to get to the game on the weekend and support women's baseball - and i have no doubt you enjoyed watching some great players go about it. Your continued support is important.

The first part of this season was never going to suit Spring A and Donc A because they were not going to get much in the way of challenging games unless they played each other.
But with about 5 weeks to go before the re grading, there is some balance between the 4th through 9th even though 9th has only won 2 games. Last years D2 winners with 2 wins and Foots down the table at the moment who were the surprise packet in D1 last year.
As an old Mariner (then Burra) coach its great to see the Port girls playing well and winning under Vic Brown.

A couple of very interesting games coming up in the last round before the re-draw is done for Div 1/2 in the Women's comp.
Moorabbin v Waverley A Port Melb v Malvern
Port Melb win, they stay in Div 1 (very tough game to get over the line against the Braves). Port Melb lose, and Waverley A win, Waverley will make their first Div 1 appearance in several years (they should get over the line against Moorabbin).
Will be interesting to see how things pan out come 3pm tomorrow!!

Funny??? I'm not really too sure why that's funny? ? Springvale and Doncaster will both be in Div 1 as will Malvern.... I'm more interested to know who I may possibly be playing against next week!! Don't get me wrong, Feb 2nd has been highlighted in my calendar since September!!! Read into it what you will Kane, pretty sure I won't be the only one waiting to hear the outcomes...

Curious how they managed to work out who plays who in the div 2, the top 3 play the bottom 3. Will just be a battle of the bottom 3 to see who actually gets that 4th spot, could all come down to runs for and against.
