With both the A and B Grade final fours set, this weeks final round in the DBA wiill be used for those last minute fine tuning for next week finals. A GRADE Bonbeach v Dandenong: Bonbeach has battled valiantly against the odds this season, but will be better served next season after introducing a few younger players to A Grade this season. Dandenong on the other hand will be wanting to keep the bats firing after last weeks drubbing of Berwick. Dandy to win by 5 or 6 runs.
Dingley v Cheltenham: What a ripper of a game this will be. Bragging rights will be on the line prior to next weeks meeting in the finals. I feel that Cheltenham's experience will prevail in what should be a tight tussle. I'm not expecting the front line throwers to be used this week. Cheltenham by 2 runs in the game of the round.
Mornington v Frankston: Congratulations to Frankston on returning to finals action next week. However,Mornington who ran Dandy to the 10th last week is my tip to finish the season off with a win. If Brendan Wilson can come up for a second week in a row, the Pirates should bet up by 2 runs.
B GRADE
Boneo v Chelsea: Chelsea can't wait for Saturday to be over and finish off their worst season for a long, long time. Boneo will be and should be flexing their collective muscles as a warm up for next weeks finals. Boneo by the 10 run rule.
Dandenong v Dingley: Should be a good game, the Young Guns have had a good year and will be looking to finish the season on a good note. Dandy will be making sure they go into the finals on a winning note. Being played at Dandy and with Wokka's astute leadership, I am tipping Dandy to salute by a couple of runs.
Moorabbin v Oakleigh: The Panthers need a win badly to enter next weeks finals with any sort of confidence. Oakleigh will be tough early, but I expect Moorabbin to get the bts firing and deliver the Panthers a 4 run victory.
OGH v Pakenham: The Travelling Wilburies make their final journey for the season and should trouble Pakky early, but Pakkys strength with Rick Wheeler and Houghy leading the way should finish to strong for the TW's and should enter the finals series with a 6 to 8 run victory.
Good luck to all playing this weekend. OMR

Assuming runs scored by the losing team in the top of a dig count when the bottom half isnt played it is entirely possible that in B Grade today us NC Rebels may have hung on to second spot after losing 5-0 to Ringwood (who threw Adam Bright against us ) and elsewhere Waverley were leading 19-2 over Essendon after 6 (and Wavo were by my calcs in second spot on percentage at that point) when I believe one of the Essendon boys hit a 3-run bomb late and that put the Rebels back into second place (I think).

Lara and Deakin played out a 1-1 draw in the GBA, with the Wildcats finishing on top and the Blues third. With the bye, Guild narrowly retained second placing. Ballarat Brewers downed Bellarine 7-4 but finish fifth on head to head behind Saints, who made sure of a finals berth by thumping Bacchus Marsh 10-1. A Grade Semi-Finals are next Sunday (Lara vs Guild, Deakin vs Saints). Other senior grades play Semi-Finals on Saturday. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

In that case, you should direct thanks to Dean McIntyre as it was he who gave it a nudge over the short (make that extremely short) left field fence. Situation was last inns 2 down and 2 strikes on the Dean.

Good wins today for us against North Coburg in both grades. Our boys got up against a different looking B Reserves side and against their first as well. The win keeps us in the top four in A Grade, A Reserves, B Grade and B Reserves. Good effort by Pickles and the coaching staff on the excellent job they have done to build our club. While a premiership or two would be great, the future is looking very good.
Edit and retract of 4 players from firsts after conversation with Authentic

Tomorrow sees the first game of the Bendigo Baseball Assoc grand final series (A & B grade play a best of 3 GF series).
A grade - Falcons v Dodgers After last weeks display against East the Dodgers will go in full of confidence. Their whole game came together last week, led by their pitching and timely hitting against solid East pitching. They have missed out on the GF series over the last few years, coming 3rd, but will no doubt be chomping at the bit to get a crack at the premiership. On the other side the Falcons have not been as dominant this year as in years past, including losing 3 in a row. But the earned a GF berth by finishing top of the ladder and with last week off they have been able to set up their pitching as they please going into game 1. So far this season they have played each other 6 times, Falcons winning 4 and Dodgers 2.
As with many finals the tone will be set by the starting pitching, although both teams are deep with pitchers should the ball need to be thrown around. Looking forward to this as looks be an even and exciting GF series.
B grade is also Falcons v Dodgers. Dodgers again overcame East last week in the preliminary final, in one dig sending 19 men to the plate!! Falcons overcame a sluggish start to the season and overcame some troubles against East to end up on top of the ladder to go straight through to the GF series. This series is definately not decided, as many know with lower grade GFs it often only takes one standout performance to lift a team. Both Dodgers and Falcons have a number of players with A grade and rep experience which will lead their teams into the series.
C grade it is East and Faclons playing off in the preliminary final to see who will square off against Dodgers in next weeks GF. The games so far this season have been split between the 2, and another tight clash is expected.
The forecast tomorrow in Bendigo is meant to be mostly sunny up to 13 degrees, with 5% chance of rain. Hopefully we can get a good day and not be rain affected (fingers crossed).

While a premiership or two would be great, the future is looking very good. Nice try to deflect mate - "...4 players from the firsts..." feel free to name them - at best you will get 2 and they were only used in their full capacity once the game was nearly done and dusted ! So back to Adam Bright pitching in B Grade ! And Goblin...clearly we owe Dean a beer but from what I gather a few of the boys were pretty keen to play the real Ringwood B Grade team next week anyway. PS: What happened to 'The Jacks' report this week Update: Re the supposed 4 players in our 2s (see above) jr and I are all sorted (see above also) :-)

Interesting to see that Oakleigh B1's forfeited yesterday. Their B2's played and had a win to take 2nd place. Is there not a ruling that states that the higher grade cannot forfeit if the team below them can take the field??? Very interested to know as this will make a big difference to the ladder. Anyone know if there is still such a ruling? ?

I noticed that too Houghy I thought the ruling was,if a team forfeits and their lower team wins then the lower team loses their points

Greg, the 'league' doesn't view Ringwood selections and teams in any way, other than to put in place a process that was agreed to 2 years ago by Ringwood in relation to eligibility for finals. How Ringwood select teams is up to them, but what we did was agree to a formula, with Ringwood, for fair finals qualifications for both your club and the other competing clubs in these grades.

Greg, I persoanlly have no problem with our guys facing Adam in B Grade for what was a complete game (so I gather he was pretty match fit). In fact it is good for our guys to get a taste of A Grade if we are to aspire to that level of ball HOWEVER all other B Grade clubs dont have the luxury of dropping down a classy pitcher like Adam which raisies a question of two re the Ringwood A & B grade arrangement.
My issue is the complete misrepresentation of what happened in our twos as we didnt stack our team to get a win in that game to play finals, and jrogers view that we had 4 firsts players is our team is completely untrue.

Hi Authentic, Your right not all clubs have that 'luxury' however with the number of washouts over the last couple of weeks it was all about getting our pitchers some innings in before finals. We realise we are in a unique position with both A & B grade, and in this instance wouldn't be a joke if Adam ended up pitching in C Grade because we had no B Grade side?? Our baseball club has worked bloody hard to ensure we can offer our members (all 7 senior teams) a chance to play a competitive level of baseball. If we had no B grade then we would have 5 teams playing a grade further down than where they are now. As far as I can tell, when a player pays his/her fees they become a member of the club not a particular team. If you want to question our movements between A & B grade then we all need to look at movement between A-Res and C Grade etc.

ah24 as stated I had no real problem with Adam throwing in B Grade, we were just lucky that we played well enough during the year to be secure in the four prior to y/day BUT the A & B Grade Ringwood concept (which I like) has the potential to throw up this sort of unfairness late in the season on clubs that have battled all year to play B grade Finals, and it would be a shame to have a player like Adam Bright come down and throw against you and dump you out of the finals in the last game.
And why would there be a need to look at the A-Res and C Grade player movement ? Isnt that just every other clubs 2nds and 3rds anyway ?
Like I say I like the Ringwood concept and I reckon it has been great for your club, your opponents, and more broadly the League and for the most part has been managed/administered in a most appropriate way.

This needs to be reviewed for next season, why because it should not happen. Adam is a great pitcher and indervidule but this is not about him. If a club has the opportunity to field a second club, which this is, separate 1st, 2's then they sink or swim with that group of teams. Being able to drop down players because they need outings is a bit odd because no other club in A grade has that option. There are other clubs that have many teams. Would we except a research or one of the other top 4 A grade clubs sending down a pitcher to play in B grade ringwood club, obviously not because they are different entity!! That's why they fielded the A grade teams and the separate b grade teams because as you have stated they have depth and want to play their B grade at what they perceive to be a higher standard than the 3's and 4's in A grade. It's a separate entity !! In the summer league where Waverley has to separate clubs in Dev one and div two, they have to select a squad of 20 players which can't be swaped between the 2divissions which in this case you would not have seen Adam pitch in the B grade club. I don't like that either as it's a separate entity. What happens if B grade ringwood wins B grade do they have both ringwood clubs in A grade? Then they can rotate all their pitchers ever week, then if they made play offs against each other what would happen!! Bad situation which the league needs to sort out. Ringwood only playing to the rules but the rules are floored.

Does it make a difference if a player 'drops' from A1 to A2 and potentially knocks a team out of finals rather than A1 to B1?. My comment about the A to C grade was more about the difference in standard being greater than a move from A to B. And if we are going to query a move from A to B then surely any move for A to C should be looked at in the same light.

I agree with Authentic. If this round of games had been finals, we can be fairly certain who would have played where. And that's the point..if players are used to boost a team into the finals, that will never be play in the actual final as part of the team, then it's an artificial (not illegal ) tactic. In the same vein washouts of higher grade teams when their lower team gets to play also artificially affects results against teams who don't have this option. It seems in both scenarios you aren't playing a team, you are playing the full force of the club. No solutions offered..just an observation.

Ah24 .....I think you have very little understanding of what has been said by people outside of the baseball club, having just made that statement. You have clubs working hard busting their backsides trying to earn their way into A grade and you because your club has arranged to have a A and a B grade club you have miss used the rule IMO to just push a club out of finals appearances as if they happen every year. To miss a 2nds final berth can't be compared with a club trying to gain a promotion into a higher grade. Any way you want to turn it around, it's still dodgie IMO. So tell me what happened to your pitchers from your regular B 1side did they pitch in the 2nds and help to push someone else out of finals as well. Would it not be more rewarding making it through on you own merritts with the team that got you into that position. League needs to re look at the rule.

I don't think we have to justify anything at all to anyone, but if everyone want to see what happened in the B Res game where my reliever had to throw in that game because of an injury early in the game and also my other starter was away for the past couple of weeks. This is the reason we as a club have always helped each other out with pitchers. Much the same as B grade do when A grade need help. It has always been this way. Nobody seems to say much about the fact we have 5 young kids that are playing in the second highest grade and are doing an outstanding job.

If a club forfeits before a saturday game, then the lower team is supposed to be forfeited and play the higher grade Forfeit occured at 1pm saturday, hence not possible to move team from B2 to B1, and forfeit in B1 stands
