Good points Authentic..I would like to know if any evidence/statistics exist on injuries attributable to wet/soft infield and outfields compared to rock hard base paths in Summer. I agree that most times baseball can be played (saw several fantastic outfield diving catches yesterday where the soft surface actually assisted!) However it is also true that some players/teams will use "duty of care" /dangerous conditions when it is in their interest to pick up one point rather than risking a loss.Credibility would seem to require consistency. On the other hand I don't see how we can realistically get umpire consistency when fitness to play is a judgement decision that can't be based on training or an instructional videos. P.S. To flog a dead horse once again..how does duty of care measure up to StKilda/Knox when (at times) batters or infielders are blinded by the sun!

Re Ringwood ground..The easy call for consistency would have been no games at all! More than an hours work went into "ground improvement" including reconfiguring the out of play area, and specified problem areas,so there was a difference in the conditions between the early and late game. Given that nearby games were cancelled it would seem that 1/2 is better than none.

Massive thanks to the Dandy BC for lending us thier super sopper to clean up our ground for play today, I also belive they swaped thier home games back to Frankston after the washout round earlier this year. Probibly cost them a couple of K in sales. Only the A3 and A4 games were moved back to Frankston. Not quite sure where your info comes from theeck but it's not accurate! Guarantee all 4 A grade games were changed to and played at Frankston! Some cracking games as well, draws in both A1's and A2's with some big hitting in all games!

Have heard one of the Cheltenham B3 players ended up in hospital after an incident yesterday. Hopefully all ended OK and the player is back on the field for next week's game.

Unfortunately Stewart one of the dads in the Cheltenham B3 team was taken to the Alfred after collecting a line drive flush on his top lip. He was operated on yesterday and very sore and swollen at the moment, not sure when he gets out though he did text on Saturday night via his wife that he's unavailable next week (at least he still had his sense of humor).
Was hoping to play divvy 2 Masters with the tomatoes this summer, hopefully at some stage he'll be good to go there though he will need to jump the double hurdles of recovering from this as well as getting clearance from the boss (his wife!).

The incident at Chelt only makes the case stronger for wooden bats to be introduced to all grades of baseball. Being there on Saturday, it was not a good look for baseball. I am glad to hear that he is doing ok. All the CD players were concerned after the game and were very releived that he was still standing. Kudos to the Ambo's who were there within 10 or 15 minutes.

DBA's Monday Wrap In a hard fought contest, The Rustlers prevailed over the Dodgers by 3 runs. Berwick had chances to convert but Cheltenham held tough to run out winners 4 to 1. Suprisingly Berwick still have a chance and must win both games in the next fortnight to have an outside chance.
The Angels seem to becoming the Kings of the tied ballgame. Dandy and Frankston played out a nip and tuck game where no side really gained a true advantage. Well done to the Tomatoes and passing a test for the finals and now move a game and half clear of Berwick. The final score was 7 all. The seconds also played a draw as well.
Dingley did enough to get pass the young Bluejays. Final score was 6 to 2.
B Grade The Pumas finally brought the bats to play and continued the Dolphins woes for 2012. Just te warm up the Pumas needed coming into the big part of the season. Final score 15 to 2
With the Panthers defeating the Dingley Young Guns, that finalises the four for B Grade. The only event that may happen is the final standing may alter. A good season for the Young Guns and with luck should finish off strong for the rest of the season. Moorabbin can breathe a bit easier now and start concentrating on finetuning a finals campaign. Final score was 8 to 3.
Boneo v Oakleigh. In what was a very ordinary effort Oakleigh forfieted the B1 side apparently on the Friday night, but the B2 side made the trip and lost 4 to 3 to Boneo. Enough said on this non event.
On Sunday a very entertaining game took place between the Travelling Willburies and the Angels, with the Angels jumping out of the blocks early and putting up four or five runs. After that the TW's held the Angels and managed to score a couple in return. Good host's in the Dandy Baseball Club made the afternoon very pleasant for this scribe.
Let's hope the weather can dry out a few grounds and bring back the wood bats to all levels.

I heard on the weekend that in the Dingley Vs Chelt U/17 final that the chelt pitcher started a new hitter on his 81st pitch when they are only aloud to pitch 80 pitchers or 5 innings during the winter. Dingley has put in a protest i think about what has happened. What is everyone thoughts on that? what should happen?
Also normally during the winter the junior games are a dead stop on 10:25 but in the finals they play until 11:30 or until there is a winner, but that is not what happened over at chelt in the same game. The game ended up as a draw and they finished at 10:25 because that is what is happened during the season. Should the game be replayed or should the highest team go though to the grand final.
I believe that Dingley shoudl get the win because the chelt pitcher has pitched over the limit of his pitches. I am to believe that this happened a few years ago with melbourne.
Please let me know your thoughts

It was disappointing that the game finished when it did. I always thought finals were played until there was a winner. The game should of been completed at the time.
As for the pitcher going over the pitch count, there is a rule in place for this and should result in a Dingley "win", however, this would also be a shame as it was a great game and to be decided like that would be disappointing. Like I said above, the game should of continued until there was a result.

Just read the Junior rules for the DBA and the rules are very clear, Rule 9c allows the game to be completed no later than 11.30am. As for th pitch count that is covered in Rules 14 b & e. Must finish at 80 unless midway through a batter then allowed an extra 5 pitchs. The rules are very clear.

In the MWBL a few years ago GMBC had a final overturned and Watsonia would have but lost anyway in situations of 'over pitching'. Both clubs fined and coaches suspended for a game from memory.

The Bendigo season wrapped up last week with the final round.
In an upset Scots defeated East 2-1. East were missing some of their leaders, but it was still a great result for Scots, who finish the season having beaten every team at least once. It will be a nice feather in their cap after the improvement they have shown over the season and hopefully it will continue into 2013. East on the other hand will be disappointed but no doubt will be letting it slide as they focus this week on the elimination final.
In the other game it was Dodgers and Falcons. In a game which was played pretty low-key to be honest, Falcons were able to get up 7-2. Falcons had Troy Waterman throw for the first time in a few weeks, giving up only 1 hit over 3 innings (a lead-off home run no less), before Falcons relievers threw the remaining 4. Scots young gun Josh Cruse started for Dodgers, and despite allowing alot of base runners was able to keep the score in check for the 3 innings he pitched, before 2 Dodgers relievers finished the game. Dodgers held their main pitcher back, except for 1 inning of relief at the end, no dount in preparation to start next week in their elimination final.
Next week will be East v Dodgers, in what is an enticing clash. Both teams have already beaten Falcons at some stage this year and no doubt will fancy their chances should they get through. Will be looking forward to watching that one with a hot dog and a beer!!
