Just wondering what the deal is with permits for a junior who is playing at one club buts wants to play seniors elsewhere. Is this possible?

This is kind of correct although has become much tighter with BV over the last couple of years. Last year I got told by the league that this could only occur if your home club didn't have what you wanted to play in. For example, let's say you are eligible to play U16's. If your home club is where you play U16's, and your home club has senior teams, you cannot be permitted to another club for seniors. If your home club is where you play seniors and they don't have an U16 side, then the player can be permitted to another club who do have the U16 side. Now there may be exceptional circumstances, maybe for family reasons (parent plays at another club for tradition reasons but you play juniors close to home or with school friends etc) but would not fit within the BV guidelines. I raised this last year as we had a female who played at Melbourne in the Women's league but wanted to play Masters with her husband for us. We ended up having to have her get cleared to us as her home club and, because we had no women's teams, we could permit her back to Melbourne for that comp. I was told that Melbourne could not permit her to us for Masters because they had those teams which she could play in. I was also told the same rules applied across Juniors/Seniors as it does for Seniors/Women's/Masters as far as permits were concerned. But who knows, that all may be interpreted differently now.

:fishing: Just wondering what the deal is with permits for a junior who is playing at one club buts wants to play seniors elsewhere. Is this possible? DBA used to require the kid to be registered with the senior club (senior registration takes priority) and a permit for the junior team club. But that was many years ago

Theo routers plays in the 4ths a mully, club legend, but wanted to play masters years ago. Been playing at waverley for a while, but when we put in a masters team, he was told he couldn't get a permit to play at waverley anymore. This is Theo! It's a bit of a joke really.

That is a joke about Theo. Masters should be free to play wherever they want outside of normal BV rules - we are playing for the enjoyment of a run around and a beer with our mates not sheep stations. Which then leads to the further question - why are BV scr*wing the masters (sorry for the laguage KC) for the fees they do.

Well our fees are up to $300 without playing Sunday's. That'll price a few out at the gravies. Maybe a different thread is needed for this one.

People, many moons ago when I was only forty and starting out in this masters caper, there was no restriction as long your where of age. Unfortunately money has crept into the game and buggred things up. IE: ABF fees/BV fees. I am not sure what the go is nowadays but we have a few players that play at other clubs and we have never bothered to get permits, we just have to bung them on myclub as paid at another club. Then the financial morone tries to charge for him. A bit of double dipping. It does get sorted eventually after long chats. It is about time the masters formed their own league to get away form morones that only want to interfere and scr#$w up a good time.

Do you still affiliate yourselves with clubs? What about umps? I like the idea, but is it a realistic possibility? What about insurance?

To answer your questions in order. You can if you wish but for Affiliation purposes probably not. But saying that, the players would be banned from any State selection. Each Club to supply an umpire. And sports insurance can be picked up from any reputable Insurance company that does sports insurance. This could be alligned with the ABF and run as a seperate Baseball body. EG: VMBA. Take it out of the hands of BV and hand it back to the people who know best, the masters themselves. Just imagine, an Association run by the Clubs for the players. Cost would be a lot cheaper as the overheads would be a lot less than what they are now. Grounds aren't a problem, as I said earlier, most Master Sides are associated with a parent club. Just something to think about.

Lots of merit, but I reckon bv aren't just going to let a nuts load of affiliation fees disappear. Maybe if it scares them into change that's as good as a win!

BV want to hope some of the clubs they pssed off in last years finals campaign don't decide to do it on their own then.

Easy folks, There seems to be a couple of people picking on BV/ABF about money grabbing! That doesn't seem fair! And where are the forum bullies to tell them they "clowns" and wrong? Maybe, just maybe they're right!

Although I haven't ever abused anyone (your "clown" reference) it is obviously alright to label BV as run by morons (sic "morones" by OMRiver) I qualify as a forum "bully" Janet because I had the temerity to ask you to provide some information when you were slandering all and sundry including one club and several coaches. I couldn't care less if Masters ran their own competition..own umpires, ground management, organisation etc Good luck with all that! After all ,when it screws up who will you have to blame?..but of course it won't actually happen because effective action/organisation takes a lot more than just talk, including taking on leadership roles that will put you in the firing line whenever anyone is disgruntled.

It is an odd progression to go from a simple, legitimate question about junior permits to a soapbox about Masters issues.
Nevertheless, the Masters issues are well worth discussing and I note that Goblin has started a dedicated thread for 2012/13 season.
