Sorry KC, but couldn't wait.
How many games do we think will be played this week in all comps. Been some rain fall and more to come.

No worries TJ......
And no problems either with GBA games scheduled in Geelong and Ballarat this week, whatever the rain gods might throw at us.

I reckon the DBA might have a day off. Forecast is for another 4 to 5 inches of solid rain. A warm fire, cold tinny should be the order of the day.

Looks like it's clearing up on the radar but there will be a heap of work to get grounds cleared.

Looks like it's clearing up on the radar but there will be a heap of work to get grounds cleared. that may be so, but an extremely heavy and wet ground is unfortunately a reciepe for disaster in regards to injuries. Shifting ground can very easily cause knee injuries and nobody wants that All clubs will be notified alot earlier than 4:30pm

I think I will change my mind and go to the Clubhouse and sip a few frothies and watch the marine life float past the ground.

Well it's off, pretty disapointing that a whole round is called off more than 24 hours before the first pitch is due.

I applaud the DBA for having a bit of foresight and putting commonsense ahead of vanity. With more rain coming in the next few hours and again tomorrow, a lot of wasted travelling has been saved. Having driven past some grounds, it would take a miracle to get those grounds into a semi respectable shape. At least this makes it fair for competing teams.

With OMR there. I'd love to play tomorrow, but know that I'd need a snorkel to access Sweeney Reserve.
Sensible and best decision has been made IMHO.

At the Club last night I am sure that I saw 3 or 4 noah's gliding past the first base line. Checked to see what I was drinking and smoking then cleaned my glasses. I would have called the game off last night as I left my surfboard behind in my memories.

GBA home clubs have been directed to inspect grounds early Saturday morning to make a case-by-case call.
Some grounds are reported to be fine, others may not be so flash - depending on further rainfall.

I would like to point out that we pay our fees to play and I would like the option of being able to get the ground up for the game if possible.
The GBA line of thinking seems best. If the ground is beyond help on the Saturday morning then call it. but it should be done on a ground by ground basis.

Must admit that I share your thinking, great one, though the GBA is a somewhat different proposition. With the competition spread across Geelong, Werribee, Colac, Ballarat and Bacchus Marsh, conditions can vary a great deal. Remember, too, that Geelong and Ballarat have a couple of synthetic grounds and terrific drainage on others.

Small clubs rely heavily on revenue to keep fees down, we get 9 home games to break even, tomorrow we had 3 tball teams and 3 senior games.
Now we have none.
I type this while the sun has been out for about 5 hours and there is no rain on the radar. I haven't seen it myself yet but I am told the ground is fine with minimal clean up required.
But we can't play.
The DBA said so more than 24 hours before a pitch was due.
If it rains tonite there is still plenty of time to call it.
But the DBA already have, before lunch on Friday.
I guess we're not smart enough to make that call.
Or the umpires.

Puma. I would love to be sitting where you are with the sun beaming, but where I am sitting it is somewhere between pouring rain with the occaisional sun burst. Just think of the bigger picture and chill out and enjoy a frothie and watch the ground either dry out or get wetter. If you can't understand the safety factor, umpires are also bound by OH & S. The DBA is larger than the individual club.

Firstly I think that the leagues have done the right thing in advertising early where games are a wash out, it does save some travel and while I also agree that the revenue from sales would be handy, common sense has probably prevailed. A Grade Lets assume that games will be played in these tips (although I think many will not play). The ladder is fantastic at the moment, although there is a gap from the top team to the bottom 3, it is relatively close. I think that if you are not at the 4 win mark after this week (should you play) that it will start to become very difficult to make finals. A couple of big games this week. Croydon vs Heathmont - Heathmont are going well again after a slowish start. A win here shows they are a very big chance to have a very BIG say come finals. Croydon were gifted a game early in he season and have not really taken advantage of this. Heathmont too strong. Melbourne University vs GMBC - Monty should be too strong here. Uni with a handy draw last week to stay in touch with the other teams fighting the relegation zone. Monty do have guys that are respected for the way they play the game and although we are all getting older, they are still quality. They are also sitting just outside the top 4 and on the move. Uni not to challenge this season and will need to pick up every point they can, does Straw Field hold water or will they get another point? North Balwyn vs Greensborough - Well could not have more wrong about Greens last week, maybe they should employ me as a motivator . NB in a similar position to Uni, they need points and quickly. Greens should be too strong here unless AM can deal on the mound. Should be an interesting one here I think. Ringwood vs Research - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Based on ladder position this is the MOTR. Harman out could be a factor (well not named on web). Beep Beeps going well, very well. They have a solid hitting line up and can put a number of guys on the hill. Handy having McKay and Bedford in relief (looking at web). Ringwood will Meldrum starting could be a good move if his slow stuff is on, otherwise Beeps may win in a canter. Watsonia vs Knox - Watsonia just don't have the line up that made them one of the best teams for a long stretch. Knox however, have one of their best line ups for a number of years. The smart money would be on Knox, think Black Caviar, they will make the top 4, this week will confirm this. B Grade The ladder here is very close, the introduction of a couple of new teams has not been overly successful. Other sides have been doing very well against them. Westgarth leading the way as they have done over the last few years and will need to find something special if they are to take it out (they may be a player short to compete at A Grade level, but would not disgrace themselves). Still some challenges coming form both the top four and teams fighting for that elusive 3rd or 4th spot. Essendon vs Waverley - Essendon should not be strong enough to win this game. Waverley took 4th back and will be out to consolidate this. They could do with a big win as most other teams have done this. I think percentage will count this season. Forest Hill vs St. Kilda - FH should win this one as well. But, if St Kilda pull in a few players they may cause another upset. FH will not like sitting 2nd and I think they will try hard to get their ground up for this one. La Trobe University vs Westgarth - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Garth deserve another shot at A Grade IMO. They have worked hard to produce some good kids and seem to be moving in the right direction. Very important game for La Uni. Sitting 5th, Wave with an easier game, FH with an easier game, a loss here drops them off the pace somewhat. A Grath loss will drop them to 2nd as you would imagine the runs scored in both games would change the percentage enough. A Garth win will send some questions through the other challengers. Monash University vs Bundoora - In a mini upset this week as Uni have not updated their website so I am not sure if they B Grade side is back from OS. Bundoora have challenged in many games this season. Both teams have scored the same amount of runs, so I think that it should be pretty close. I pick Bundoora based on the last couple of weeks, Bundoora look a little better to me. North Coburg Rebels vs Ringwood - Another very important game. Rebels had an outstanding start and have fallen off slightly. Ringwood just not quite going yet. The winner of this game sits in a fairly good position, Rebels set in 3rd or Ring moving towards 4th. Probably more dangerous for Ring should they lose as they will start to drift away from the top 4. When you look at the games being played, there are some very important games. A win for one and a washout or loss for another could prove very costly. There may also be a few teams who are not too worried about the potential of a wash out as it may just help to keep them either in the fight for finals or off the bottom of their respective ladders. I think it should be scorers appreciation round (either this week or next) as it will be terrible sitting there this weekend. Good luck

Beautiful weather for winter baseball! Oh wait, unless your in the DBA! I know hindsight is a wonderful thing, but the decision for a blanket cancellation was a Very average call. Letting the clubs and or umpires make the decision for senior games in the morning would of been much better, especially for the grounds that have had major works during the offseason to improve ground drainage/conditions.

Nth Cob Rebels and Ringwood played out a 'spirited' 3-all draw this arvo in B Grade with both sides maybe feeling like they could have got the win.
And Ringy won easy in BRes (maybe 11-1 ?).
The ground held up well and was in pretty good nick really out in the Nthrn suburbs !

Brewers broke their losing streak with a 10-0 result over Bacchus Marsh in fine (albeit cold) playing conditions in Ballarat. League-leading Lara produced the big innings that set up its 10-4 result over Guild, while Deakin plated three in the first and held on 5-3 against Bellarine. Saints had the bye. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

Westgarth beat Latrobe uni 10-0 in B grade. Andrew reeves threw a no hitter with 6-7 K's. Westgarths 2's and 4's also had good wins..
