MWBL After a well deserved week off for teams (where Ringwood District won the senior carnival) we go back to the 'serious' action. While Match of the Round in A Grade is not a clear standout, all games very important in the context of the season. Nearly at the half way mark, if you turn at less than 50% I think you will have your work cut out for you. A Grade GMBC vs NB - Monty at home are always tough, they have a good hitting line up although they have not been scoring as freely as they once did. Maybe they are starting to become a little long in the tooth. The young NB side need to win this week, they have some good young players, but are probably a year or two away from really challenging. They too are not scoring as many runs as they would like. Monty's respected guns will prove too strong in this game I think. Greensborough vs Ringwood - Ringwood were going nicely before Jones came back. With him they look very good. Again they are probably not scoring what they would like, but when they get it going are very capable. Greeens must win this game, they have missed out a few times and need their guns to stand up. They also are always dangerous at their own park and you would expect this one to be close. Heathmont vs Watsonia - I think Heathmont are still one of the most dangerous sides should they work together. They have some serious power in their batting line up. Watsonia are doing enough to stay clear of relegation but prob wont challenge for a finals spot this season. Knox vs Melb Uni - Knox to consolidate their place in the top four this week and keep Uni on the bottom. Knox do have a very good side as well and look like they genuinely want to play for each other. Uni will need to string a couple of wins together at some stage to get themselves off the bottom. Research vs Croydon - MATCH OF THE ROUND - based on ladder position, usually there is a game where I look at it and think, I could miss my own game to watch this one. that is not the case this week. Whilst this is MOTR, I think Research will prove too strong for Croydon. Research is the early favourite for the flag in my book, but there is starting to be pressure from a few of the other teams. A win here would suggest they are comfortable on top. Croydon will need to pick up an unexpected win over the next few weeks to stay in the hunt. B Grade Bundoora vs Forest Hill - Bundoora have improved but FH are playing well over the past month or so. They have won every game since their draw with Rebels, scoring at a huge rate (34 runs in the last two weeks against two teams fighting for a finals spot). Bundoora have picked off an upset a few times over the past couple of seasons and should they win here it would be precisely that, an upset. Ringwood vs Monash Uni - I thought this would be a good one for MOTR but looking at Monash's website they seem to be missing some key players. While I don't think they will be a walk over, they are definitely a few short. Ringwood have struggled this year, they need to make a statement before the half way point and tomorrow may be the day. St Kilda vs La Trobe - I feel like I need to pick Uni, but St Kilda with the sun behind them is a tough ask (do others remember when Melb uni was playing at Albert Park, McIntyre was hard to read). Uni got belted by FH last game, but that is no shame with the way FH is playing at the moment. Uni has been one of the stronger sides over the past few seasons, but are mid pack at this stage. I think they will be stung into action. St Kilda just not quite sharp enough, although if they have guys playing for them, they can beat the higher placed teams. Waverley vs North Coburg Rebels - MATCH OF THE ROUND - Wow, this is a MOTR, both teams have some good players, both teams have some guys who can hit and pitch, both teams will be desperate for this one. Wave sitting fourth at the moment and could drop a couple of places if other results go the right or wrong way for them. They played A Grade a couple of years ago and have made finals since, but are still probably lacking something. Rebels are ahead of where most would have expected them to be, but they have lost their last 2 games, so need to pick this one off. I think Rebels are a good chance of finals this year and a win here will give them the confidence they need to take that step. Westgarth vs Essendon - Garth are going very well. They have scored the most and given up the second least. They are a chance of going back up if they can maintain their momentum. They have a good mix of younger players and a few wise heads about as well. Essendon experiment not great, but they did win their last game. Should be an easy win for Garth. (#givemarshyapitch) Good luck, I think over the next couple of weeks we may see the contenders really step up. Good luck to the scorers this week, it is getting colder and they do a great job.

For the second game running in GBA competition, Ballarat Brewers were overhauled in the bottom of the last (this time by Lara, 5-4). Rory Meddick whiffed a dozen in a game that went just six innings. Brad Egan dominated on the mound for Guild, which beat Saints 3-2 after being challenged. Bellarine posted its second win of the season, with a comfortable 7-1 result over Bacchus Marsh. www.geelongassociation.baseball.com.au

We beat Monash Uni today 16 to 4. Was close for most of the game, but 11 runs with 2 outs sealed the game. Great team effort with everyone chipping in. Reserves got up 6 - 2.

B Grade Stkidla lost to Latrobe Uni 3-9, but may have found a very useful pitcher who kept Latrobe soreless for four innings of relief. He was playing E grade last week! In the Reserves StKilda got home by one run..Latrobe won all the stats except errors.

Well I couldn't have been further from the win with my tip in the Greens/Ring game, wrong tip and def wrong about the close one. At least my MOTR in B Grade lived up to it, a draw, looking forward to some info about that game. Reports from any other games?

I understand that there was something to do with a pink helmet, a set of brothers and a few other people looking in.

B2 game on saturday between Oakleigh & Carrum Downs. Both pitchers 13 K's and no walks issued by either pitcher. Result 1 all. Eight innings of good tight ball.

O.M.River..Pink helmet!!! Whoever wore that must know how to fight. Maybe the ejection was for terrible fashion sense.

Oldman you are pretty close to the mark. Chelsea catcher decides to not only fake tag but block the plte for a runner trying to score while ball is in the outfield and leading by about ten runs. POOR FORM. Expect nothing less down there ordinary to say the least. Then B1 coach tries to name ejected catcher in the later game? wtf was he thinking there? Dandenong b2 team made up of late forty something parents playing with there fourteen year old sons, pink helmet is a little gimmick they have that someone must wear it after striking out until which time someone else does. it is a fun family team that unfortunately bore the brunt of two morons.

Nothing wrong with playing the ejected player in the later game, he hasn't been edjected from that game and may yet front up at the tribunal and be found not guilty. (Not likley from all reports but still)
And completely agree, Carrum should never have been allowed to drop from B1.

Puma,
Not sure that's how it works - ie ejected player ....
(e) Except for a smoking or alcoholic beverage offence (unless the umpire makes a specific report in relation to these offences), the reported person must appear before the Tribunal before they can participate in any subsequent sanctioned competition match. In the event that the Tribunal is unable to hear the report prior to the next match or the umpire or the reported person has a valid/acceptable explanation for not being able to attend a Tribunal Hearing, the reported player may request permission to play in the next match. The Secretary of the Association may, on this application, grant permission to play in a match pending the hearing.

Sueridgpipe your are technically correct. However, they can't stop you playing the next game until you front the tribunal. And to maybe to answer a question, that is best answered by the powers to be, they set the ground rules.

I've got no idea what the rule is but I would've thought if you get ejected from 1 game you can't take part in the next - I mean what a farce! So a coach can send out a sniper in the A2's for example to do his worst and then because he hasn't faced the tribunal he is fine to play in the A1's?? Not sure that's right, not to mention against the spirit of the game.

Anyone got news on what happened in the Frankston vs Bonbeach A1 game, something about a forfeit for unregistered players??

under MWBL rules ejection (whether for 2 yellows in the one game, a blue card or straight ejection) is from the game only (not the round). no suspension operates until a Tribunal says so, which means the player can continue in the next game. rules 50, 51 and 52.

Broohaha, Frankston won but lost. Points were taken off them for unregistered players. This will make interesting reading shortly .

All points accrued by Frankston regardless which grade from last weekend were taken due to administrative issues

Not a good situation for Frankston to be in. Bonbeach suffered this with one of our teams in the finals in summer. I hope it is an administrative error that can be fixed.

This situation seems to be an ongoing problem with the myclub monitoring. But points were never removed. The threats were made, but never followed through as the problem was usually rectified quickly by the Clubs involved. Maybe a bit of tough love required to make the point. My only question is, what about all the previous games played where the players were still unregistered. A can of worms or Pandora's Box could be opened by opposing Clubs if they wish to grab some cheap points. Also what will happen with the runs for and against in all the games as a forfiet usually results in a 9-0 scoreline. Interesting times lay ahead.

So it was only because they hadn't updated myclub?
Not sute if the DBA is the same but for BV a forfeit is scored a 9-0 loss and a 3-0 win in runs for/against.
